Snowshoeing & ice fishing

This excursion, lasting around 4 to 4.5 hours, takes you to GLØD’s wilderness camp just outside Alta and combines snowshoeing with ice fishing. Together, you’ll hike through beautiful, peaceful pine forests, framed by towering mountains, to the wilderness camp and its idyllically situated little lake, which has long been renowned for its abundant fish stocks. A husky accompanies the tour and helps pull the equipment. At the camp, you’ll light an open fire in the lavvu, the traditional tent of the Sami herders – the perfect place to warm up and enjoy a hot lunch. Fishing is usually for Arctic char, although these large fish aren’t always easy to catch. With a bit of luck, you'll have fresh, home-caught fish for lunch; otherwise, food you’ve brought with you will be cooked over the fire. The snowshoe route covers a total of around 2.5 km, including a stop at a beautiful viewpoint. With a bit of luck, you’ll spot tracks of hares, foxes or moose along the way, as well as birds of prey such as eagles or the rough-legged buzzard.
