Alta Weekend Adventure: a memorable break far north
If you want more than just a taste of husky sledding but aren’t quite up to doing a full week, then this 3-night tour may be just right for you. As well as a training session, you will enjoy two full days of Husky sledding, giving you the opportunity to hone your sled-driving skills while travelling through the incredible silent wilderness of beautiful Norway.
Alta 4 Day Experience: Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
Once you arrive in Alta you will be collected from the city centre or airport and taken the short distance out to the farm. Once you have dropped off your belongings and had a chance to freshen up, you will receive comprehensive instructions on handling your dog sled before heading out on a practice run to give you the opportunity to test your new skills.
After a delicious dinner, you will be able to take an evening dip in the outdoor jacuzzi or warm up in the sauna. You will spend the night in one of the charming tipi bungalows at the Holmen Husky Lodge; each bungalow is equipped with a double bed, wood-burning stove, and a specially designed glass panel front, so that you will always have a good view in case the Northern Lights do appear.
Day 2: Through the Norwegian Wilderness
After a hearty breakfast, you will load up your dogs and gear and drive south of Alta to your tour starting point which is located right at the edge of the Finnmark mountain plateau. Once your sled and dogs are ready, you will head off for your first full length exhilarating husky-driven exploration of the Norwegian wilderness. You will head across lonely trails through spectacular scenery, stopping for lunch around halfway through the 30 km trek.
Overnight accommodation will be in a mountain lodge. You will be able to tend to your dogs and reward them for their hard work, before tucking into a delicious meal. There are shared facilities in the mountain lodge, no electricity or running water.
Day 3: With the Huskies through Quiet Landscapes
An early start will allow you to have breakfast and prepare your dogs for another full day of sledding. The 30 km trip back to your start point will lead you through silent landscapes; where the only sounds you will hear will be those of nature and your dog’s paws crunching across the unbroken snow. Once back at the starting point, you will pack up and head back to the Holmen Husky Lodge for dinner and one last night in Norway.
Day 4: Departure
After breakfast before lunch time your journey ends and you will be transferred back to the airport with many great memories of your Norway adventure.

Additional Information:
The order of tours and activities within this itinerary may vary due to weather conditions and other contributing factors that must be taken into account by the guides when planning your tour. You will receive the exact order of activities once you arrive on site. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. The safety of guests and animals comes first, and for this reason, we reserve the right to change the itinerary and intensity of activities if and when needed. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period.
Note: We recommend booking additional categories and guided activities directly with the tour package (several weeks or months before arrival), as these may be fully booked at the time of travel. Some activities are only available on certain dates and not for the entire season.
