Exclusive Adventure Week in Norway: Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
Upon arrival you will enjoy a delicious meal with the rest of your group, after which your guide will give you a first briefing on what to expect on your exciting tour. Look forward to the adventures ahead and get to know your new surroundings. The travel services begin with dinner on the first day and end with breakfast on the last day.
Day 2: A day with the Sámi
Today you will have a truly unique and unforgettable experience; you will spend a day in the life of a Sámi reindeer herder! Far from the beaten track, you will travel in a sled behind your guide's snowmobile to the winter pastures where the reindeer graze. You will meet the reindeer herders and learn all about their daily life. Embrace the chance to fully immerse yourself in the wilderness of Norway and traditional way of life as you spend time with the Sámi family from Karasjok.

Day 3 and 4: Free Days
You will have these two days to spend at your leisure. The husky farm offers the opportunity to take care of the puppies and dogs or you can learn more about the history of dog sledding in the "Dogmusher Library". The additional activities that you can book include a guided Northern Lights safari on snowshoes, cross-country skiing, a snowshoe hike with ice fishing or a snowmobile tour with a guide. Of course, you can book an additional dogsled tour as well. You are also welcome to visit the nearby Sámi village. Here you can admire local crafts (including the workshop of a knife smith) or visit the National Sámi Museum, the Norwegian Sámi Parliament and the Sámi Art Gallery.
Days 5-7: Husky safari
Today you will embark on your 3-day husky tour of Norway. The first challenge is a steep climb up to the mountain plateau where you and your excited huskies will work hard to reach the top. After this, you will be guided over a variety of scenic terrain including white snowy hills, endless glassy lakes, and frozen marshes. Accommodation will be in warm cosy tents, hidden deep in the Norwegian wilderness, or in a mountain cabin on the Finnmarks plateau (depending on which route is taken and the weather).
As you travel, you will be lucky enough to pass stunning winter landscapes that provide grazing pastures for reindeers, and you may even see the Sámi herders hard at work. On the journey back to the Engholm Husky Lodge you will continue across breathtaking landscapes. Keep your eyes peeled for a glimpse of the moose, which are known to gather in the valley during the winter. Once you arrive back at Engholm and cared for the dogs, you will be greeted by a heated sauna, outdoor hot tub (both on request), and a sumptuous hot meal. There may also be an opportunity to witness the phenomenon of the Aurora Borealis, best known as the Northern Lights, doing their magical dance across the Norwegian sky.
Day 8: Departure
After a final delicious breakfast, your time in the north sadly comes to an end. However, if you would like to, we would be more than happy to arrange some additional nights so that you have more time to enjoy the magic of Norway. Please enquire for more information. If you choose to conclude your tour here, you will take home some amazing memories of your time in Norway.
Requirements:
Even if you are not an experienced musher, you will still be able to share a sleddog team with a partner or the guide. The only requirements are a reasonable level of fitness and the ability to concentrate and maintain your balance. In the beginning, you will earn your first experience by driving tandem - two sleds and one husky team. If you feel safe you can decide in the group with your guide whether you want to separate the two sleds and drive solo with your own dog team. You should also help with daily tasks such as caring for the dogs and work together in the group.
Accommodation:
You will stay in one of the comfortable cabins at Engholm Husky Lodge. The exact facilities vary depending on the cabin. Some of them do not have their own bathroom. In this case, the toilet and shower are shared with other guests and are located in a neighboring house. The accommodation during the 3-day husky tour can be adapted depending on the weather conditions and takes place either in cosy heated tents in the wilderness or in a mountain cabin on the Finnmark Plateau. Please note that some units on this tour do not have electricity and running water. Your hosts reserve the right to adapt the route depending on weather conditions, which can be largely unpredictable and change very quickly. The wilderness cabin (mountain cabin) is shared accommodation.
Important information about the meals:
Only one dish is served per meal, so no a la carte is possible. Cooking facilities are limited, especially on the wilderness tour. Special dietry requirements, such as vegetarian meals, cannot be accommodated. For vegetarians, dinner can be arranged without mixing meat or fish with other ingredients. If you prefer a vegan diet and do not eat dairy products, you will need to bring supplementary food. Please note that there is only one frying pan in the wilderness cabins. No farmed meat is used for dinner, but only locally caught wild fish and self-hunted moose, or reindeer and sheep that have grazed in the wild in Finnmark. Various berries, (almost all) mushrooms, root vegetables, and potatoes are harvested by the hosts themselves.
Please Note:
Despite the remote location of the tour, there are several ways of getting there, depending on your preferred departure and arrival airport. Details are listed below.
Via Lakselv Airport, Norway
Upon arrival at Lakselv Airport, you can catch a bus to Karasjok, which takes about an hour. If you would prefer a private transfer, you can also take a taxi for the journey between the airport and Karasjok.
Via Alta Airport, Norway
From Atla Airport you can also take a bus to your base in Karasjok (approximately 4 hours). Alternatively, book a private taxi transfer for your trip between the airport and Karasjok. This will take about 2.5 hours.
Via Ivalo Aiport, Finland
Upon arrival at Ivalo airport, you can take a taxi to the Ivalo bus station. The drive from Ivalo airport to the bus station is about 7 km long. There is a daily bus that takes about 2.5 hours to reach the kennel in Karasjok. If you would prefer a private transfer, you can take a taxi for the entire journey between the airport and Karasjok. This takes about 2 hours.
Whichever location you are travelling from, our experienced advisors will work with you to ensure that you have the smoothest and easiest connections to and from your tour. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Important information:
Thanks to the ever-changing landscapes provided by Mother Nature, no tours are identical. The sights and sounds you will experience will be truly unique and allow you to create lasting memories of your time husky sledding. Don’t miss out; book your trip of a lifetime today!
Travel costs:
As this trip is a private tour, the costs depend on the number of participants. If you book this trip, you will stay among yourselves for the booked date and only travel with the people you have booked the trip with. The price quoted applies to a booking of four people. If there are five or six travelers, the price is reduced; if there are only two or three of you or if you travel alone, the price increases.
Different cancellation conditions:
For this destination, 100% cancellation fees apply after confirmed booking. For this reason, we recommend that clients take out insurance in this case. If the participant does not wish to (or cannot) take part in what is booked - no refund is granted. Additionally, further costs may arise if cancellation occurs before the final payment is made.
Additional Information:
The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period.
