Northern Lights Photo Safari in Sweden: The Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
You will be personally met at the airport and taken to your destination in Kukkola. There, you can move into your cosy accommodation for the upcoming week of adventure. During a delicious dinner, you will get to know the other guests and your hosts. You will also learn all about photographing the magical northern lights during an evening photography class so that you can capture this fascinating phenomenon perfectly in a picture. (If you arrive in Rovaniemi, you can visit the Arctic Circle and the hometown of the Santa).
Day 2: Visit a dog sled farm and Husky tour
After a hearty breakfast, take a bus to the nearby Husky farm, where you will learn all about the adorable dogs and their training programme. Afterward, you will get to know the excited animals and get a taste of true freedom during a one-hour ride on the skids of a dog sled (two people per sled). The total duration of this programme is about four hours. You will be fortified with a delicious dinner before you go looking for Northern Lights again or simply recharge your batteries in the sauna ready for the new day!
Day 3: Ice fishing and barbecue
Try your luck with traditional ice fishing, an activity that will feel like stepping back in time in a dreamlike setting, with a beautiful view of the expanse of Sweden. If you make a catch then you can grill your freshly caught fish over the open fire of a wooden smoke hut and listen to the stories of the local fishermen.
Day 4: Arctic photo course
Photography is a very special challenge, particularly in the remote polar regions. Today you will learn from an expert how to take beautiful photos in this environment. Kukkola is an excellent place for a day safari. After a short workshop on Arctic photography, you will go to the village with your guide and experiment with great motifs such as old buildings, running water, or the picturesque sunset over the river. Keep your eyes open in the evening, because with a bit of luck, you will see the fascinating Northern Lights in the night sky. The chances are very good!
Day 5: Say goodbye
Unfortunately, your unforgettable days are over and after breakfast, it will be time to say goodbye and head to the airport. With you, you will take many memories of new experiences in the picturesque Kukkola. Not to mention you will have some stunning photographs to show for your time here!
Accommodation:
You will be located in cosy rooms or bungalows with a private bathroom. If desired, you can book a bungalow with a sauna or a bungalow junior suite with a fireplace. Travelling alone? No problem. On this tour, you can choose the option "single room" and occupy a hotel room on your own. The communal sauna is available for free every day.
Board
The price includes full board, which starts with dinner on the first day and ends with breakfast on the last day.
Optional Bookings:
Optional activities and excursions you can book include a journey with an icebreaker, a day trip to Ranua Zoo, snowmobile tours, a visit to the snow castle, a visit of the Christmas village in Rovaniemi, a historical tour of the village of Kukkola, a speed car ride over the ice, or participating in traditional Kukkola Games.
Additional Information:
The order of tours and activities within this itinerary may vary due to weather conditions and other contributing factors that must be taken into account by the guides when planning your tour. You will receive the exact order of activities once you arrive on site. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. The safety of guests and animals comes first, and for this reason, we reserve the right to change the itinerary and intensity of activities if and when needed. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period.
