Wilderness tour at Yukons Lake Laberge: The itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
Today, you will travel to Whitehorse and have the opportunity to prepare for the coming days. Stay at the Best Western Gold Rush Inn and, if you wish, join an optional programme to get your first glimpse of the Northern Lights.
Day 2: The adventure begins
In the morning you will be picked up by your hosts in Whitehorse and travel together to Lake Laberge. Here, the charming huskies will be eagerly waiting for you. After a safety briefing and instructions, you will take a dog sled across the frozen lake to the wilderness huts. After a delicious lunch, you will learn more about the technique of dog sledding, so that you and your dogs can form the perfect team and explore together. Dinner is served in relaxed surroundings. The overnight stay takes place in a cosy rustic hut.
Day 3: Into the wilderness
After a hearty breakfast, you can try out the techniques that you learned the day before and get a feel for the fascinating dog sledding experience. Lunch is served outdoors. In the evening, round off the day with a unique experience over a delicious dinner before retiring to the lodge for the night.
Days 4 & 5: Lakes and Mountains Husky Expedition
After a delicious breakfast, enjoy the feeling of freedom on the skids of your dog sled! Quickly you will get to know the individual personalities of your Huskies and build a strong bond. For lunch, share your highlights so far over a picnic or campfire. After about five to six hours on the dog sled, rest up and enjoy a dinner that will provide you with energy for the next day.
Days 6 & 7: Dog sledding through a winter wonderland
Today it's time to speed things up a bit! After an energising breakfast, set out on the challenging trails that lead across frozen lakes, through dense forests, and over snowy hills. Race through this winter wonderland before stopping for some rest and relaxation. Enjoy a rest day and relax with a hot drink and a book by the woodstove. In the evening, warm up in the wilderness hut — this offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside and the magical night sky. With a bit of luck, the legendary Northern Lights will dance above you; even without this natural phenomenon making an appearance, the view of the clear starry sky is still impressive and will remain in your memory for a long time!
Day 8: Farewell to your team
After breakfast, take a dog sled across the lake to the road where you will bid farewell to your faithful companions. From here you will be taken back to Whitehorse by car. You will spend the last night in a hotel before you start your journey home.
Day 9: Departure
Today you will start your onward journey. You will leave with many unique experiences under your belt and plenty of incredible stories to tell! Return home feeling well-rested and with new energy, ready to take on new challenges and seize the day!
Requirements: Please note that the Yukon Sled Dog Tour requires a minimum level of fitness. Please note this tour is only for non-smokers.
Meals: From the second day of the tour, the included meals will start with lunch. This ends with breakfast on day 8.
Accommodation: The accommodation during the tour takes place in a simple but cosy hut without running water. Toilets are located in the annex. The light is generated in the huts using a 12-volt battery system. In two huts, water is heated above a woodstove for washing in a sink. In the other hut, there is propane gas, where hot water in vacuum flasks is available. If you want to charge your phone or camera, you can hand it over to your hosts, who will charge your devices at their lodge with a generator. Please bring a suitable adapter (Canada / USA) with you. The first and last night will be spent in a comfortable hotel in Whitehorse.
Additional Information:
The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. The service providers and tour providers always perform their services in compliance with and in accordance with the official requirements and requirements applicable at the time of stay. For this reason, corona-related reasonable usage rules or restrictions may arise when using said services. Please note these official requirements (Google Translate).
