Wilderness tour at Yukons Lake Laberge: The itinerary

Day 1: The adventure begins
You will be picked up by your hosts from the airport or a hotel in Whitehorse and taken to Lake Laberge in approx. 45 minutes. Here, the charming huskies will be eagerly waiting for you. After a safety briefing and instructions, you will take a dog sled across the frozen lake to the wilderness cabins. Enjoy a delicious lunch, before you will learn more about the technique of dog sledding, so that you and your dogs can form the perfect team and explore together. Dinner is served in relaxed surroundings. The overnight stay takes place in a cozy rustic cabin.

Day 2: Into the wilderness
After a hearty breakfast, you can try out the techniques that you learned the day before and get a feeling for the fascinating dog sledding experience (approx. 4 hours). Lunch is served outdoors. In the evening, round off the day over a delicious dinner before retiring to the cabin for the night.

Days 3 & 4: More Husky Expeditions
After a delicious breakfast, enjoy the feeling of freedom on the skids of your dog sled! Quickly you will get to know the individual personalities of your huskies and build a strong bond. For lunch, share your highlights so far over a picnic or campfire. After about five to six hours on the dog sled, rest up and enjoy a dinner that will provide you with energy for the next day.

Day 5: Dog sledding through a winter wonderland
Depending on your preferences and skill levels, you will set out on a two-day tour with overnight stay in the heart of the wilderness. First, however, you will pack your sled and work together to make the necessary preparations. Then you will travel by dog sled through forests, across frozen lakes, and over hills to your overnight campsite. Once there, you will first feed the dogs, before you cook together over the campfire. Drinking water also has to be sourced from nature by melting snow. Finally, let the day come to a cozy close together around the campfire. If conditions are right, you might even see the Northern Lights dancing above your heads. Tonight you will sleep in a tent heated by a wood stove.
If you'd prefer to spend the night in your cabin, as you did on previous nights, that's also possible. In that case, a program similar to days 3 and 4 will be planned for you today.

Day 6: Another Day in the Snow
You will start the day with feeding the dogs and breakfast. Then it's already time to head back to the base camp by dog sled. Once you've stowed everything away and taken care of your husky team after the tour, you can relax and reflect on your adventures from the week. You will spend the night in your cabin again.
If you did not take the overnight tour, today's program will be similar to days 3 and 4.

Day 7: Farewell to your team & Departure
After breakfast, take a dog sled across the lake to the road where you will bid farewell to your faithful companions. From here you will be taken back to Whitehorse airport or city by car. You will leave with many unique experiences under your belt and plenty of incredible stories to tell! Requirements:
Please note that the Yukon Sled Dog Tour requires a minimum level of fitness. For example, you have to be able to assist the dogs on uphill sections or in deep snow by pushing off with your foot or running alongside the sled. While on tour, you may be exposed to temperatures below -25 °C or harsh weather conditions such as heavy snowfall. Please also note this tour is only for non-smokers.

Meals: The included meals will start with lunch on the first day and end with breakfast on day 7.

Accommodation:
The accommodation during the tour takes place in simple but cozy cabins without running water. An outhouse serves as toilet. The light in the cabins is generated using candles or 12-volt battery lights. Water for washing is heated in a sink above a wood-burning stove. One cabin has a small propane furnace, so hot water in insulated bottles is available there. If you want to charge your phone or camera, you can hand it over to your hosts, who will charge your devices at their lodge with a generator. Please bring a suitable adapter (Canada / USA) with you. We recommend taking a battery block charger with you so that you can charge your phone at any time. This way, you only have to give the hosts the battery block to charge if necessary.
During the optional overnight stay in the wilderness, you will be accommodated in a tent heated by a wood-burning stove. Here, too, there is neither running water nor electricity. Furthermore, this is shared accommodation.

Equipment and warm clothing:
Please let us know when booking if you would like to rent warm clothing and equipment on site. If you already have warm winter equipment, you are welcome to take it with you. Even if it is not ideal for polar temperatures, it may be suitable for short walks or for preparing the dog sleds, for example.
