The Wide Silence of Lapland: the itinerary
Day 1: Journey to Granö and arrival
After arriving at Umeå Airport or Vindeln railway station, you will be taken by transfer to your accommodation in just over an hour (shorter from Vindeln). There, you will check into your room or cabin and have time to get used to your new surroundings. Depending on your arrival time, you will receive your winter clothing either on the same day or the following morning. Meals begin with dinner at the lodge, the perfect way to settle in and look forward to the week’s adventures.

Day 2: Husky Sledding
After breakfast, you will set off together to a nearby husky farm, where you will receive a briefing on how to drive a dog sled. Amidst excited barking, you will meet the friendly huskies and make the final preparations. Then it’s time to set off on a journey through the woods and across the frozen river. Two people share a sled for the route, swapping places along the way so that everyone gets a turn driving. During a break, there’s time for a ‘fika’ (coffee break) by the open fire in the wintry landscape before you return to the lodge for lunch (total duration: 3 h). The afternoon is free for relaxation or your own exploration, followed by dinner at the lodge in the evening.
Day 3: Free Time for Your Own Winter Plans
The day begins with breakfast, after which you have plenty of freedom to do as you please. You can plan your own activities around Granö, or take a trip to Umeå or Lycksele by public bus. During your stay, you can also use Sami skis and snowshoes free of charge. Lunch is served at the lodge, but can also be taken as a packed lunch on request. Afterwards, there is more time for your own plans, such as short explorations or relaxation. The day concludes with dinner.
Day 4: Sami Culture and Reindeer Encounter
After breakfast and a 45-minute transfer, you will visit a Sami reindeer camp. There, you will learn more about Sami culture and meet the reindeer in an environment designed to ensure respectful interaction. The excursion also includes a traditional Sami lunch and lasts a total of 4.5 hours. Back in Granö, you will have free time for your own activities before having dinner at the lodge. During your stay, remember to check the Northern Lights forecasts regularly (e.g. via apps). With clear skies and favourable conditions, you will hopefully be lucky enough to see the shimmering glow in the starry sky.
Day 5: Quiet Winter Day and Evening Snowshoe Hike
This day is also yours to plan as you wish: after breakfast, you will have time for another excursion in the surrounding area or taking part in one of the additional activities, such as another husky tour or a relaxing sauna session, for an extra charge (see "Extras" tab). You will have lunch at the lodge or take a lunch package with you, after which there will be time to warm up, read or go for short walks. In the evening, after dinner, there is a guided snowshoe hike. If the sky is clear, the trail through the forest is illuminated by the light of the moon and stars, and with a bit of luck, you might even spot the Northern Lights (total duration: 2 h).
Day 6: Electric snowmobile safari and ice fishing
After breakfast, a special activity awaits: an electric snowmobile safari combined with ice fishing. Two people share a vehicle and take turns driving. The quiet electric motor and the design of the snowmobiles ensure a peaceful experience of nature, reduce disturbance to wildlife and provide a smooth, comfortable ride. Together, you will head to various spots, such as the frozen river or frozen lakes, to try your hand at ice fishing (total duration: 3 h). Once you return from the excursion, you will have lunch before spending the rest of the day as you wish. In the evening, you will eat once again at the lodge.
Day 7: More Free Time
Start the day with a hearty breakfast and then spend the rest of the day as you please. If you like, you can use the time for additional activities, a visit to the "Arctic Highways" art gallery (for an extra fee) or another trip to Umeå or Lycksele. You will have lunch at the lodge or as a packed lunch, after which there will be time to prepare for departure tomorrow, have some final winter moments, or simply take a break. To round off the trip, enjoy dinner back at the lodge.
Day 8: Departure
Unfortunately, it’s already time to leave northern Sweden today. You will be taken to Umeå Airport in time for your flight or to Vindeln railway station in time for your train, and from there you will continue your journey home. The memories of your holiday in the north are sure to stay with you for a long time to come. Meals end today with breakfast.
Accommodation:
The lodge is located in a small village in the wilderness of Northern Lapland and directly on the quiet river Umeå. The standard accommodation on this trip is double rooms in the eco-hotel or small cabins for up to four people. These are equipped with comfortable beds, toilet and shower with towels. Each double room has a TV, kettle, tea and coffee. The cabins have a small kitchenette and, in addition to a double bed that can be pushed apart to make two single beds, a sofa bed. Wifi is available throughout the premises. All rooms and cabins are non-smoking.
During your stay you can use Sami ski and snowshoes for free.
If you wish, you can spend a night in an Aurora tree house (extra charge, see "Extras").
Important information:
On the excursions, two people share a husky sled or a snowmobile.
To drive a dog sled themselves, children must generally be at least 15 years old, 155 cm tall and weigh 50 kg. Children aged between 9 and 15 who are at least 120 cm tall may sit alone on a sled driven by an adult. Otherwise, children must sit on the sled alongside an adult. For children aged 5 to 9, there is a temperature limit of minus 18 degrees. Pregnant women are advised against taking the husky tour, as the terrain can be uneven and there is a risk of tipping.
To drive a snowmobile yourself, you must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driving licence. Children up to 12 years old sit in a sledge behind the guide’s snowmobile. The snowmobiles are insured; however, depending on local regulations and insurance policies, excesses or liability limits may apply in the event of damage.
If you are travelling with several children, please contact us before booking.
Additional Information:
The order of tours and activities within this itinerary may vary due to weather conditions and other contributing factors that must be taken into account by the guides when planning your tour. You will receive the exact order of activities once you arrive on site. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. The safety of guests and animals comes first, and for this reason, we reserve the right to change the itinerary and intensity of activities if and when needed. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. Optional activities have very limited availability; we recommend booking them well in advance, often weeks or months before departure, as they may be fully booked by the time of travel.

31.12.2023 - Traumhaftes Erlebnis
