Husky tour in the Swedish taiga - The itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival
On Sunday you will arrive in Vilhelmina and be picked up at the airport or bus station. You can settle into your comfortable double room stress-free before you all get to know each other over dinner. You get the first information about the possibilities to arrange the coming week and you get to pick your guides brains about everything you want to know!

Day 2: Briefing and first sled tour
After breakfast you will visit the huskies for the first time, cuddling included! Now you will get to know the dogs that will accompany you on your adventure in the Swedish wilderness. You will have the opportunity to build a relationship with your husky team so that you can work together optimally on the upcoming tour.
Afterwards you will get a dog sledding briefing, where you will learn everything you need to know for the following tour: how to handle the dogs, how to put on the harnesses and how to steer the sled. Afterwards, you can put what you have learned directly into practice and harness the dogs together with the guide. Now you are ready to go! Everybody gets on their sled and follows the guide, who drives in first place. The route will be adapted to the weather conditions.
When you get back, the first thing you do is take care of the dogs before you warm up, strengthen yourselves and discuss at length what you have just experienced. At the end of the day you will have dinner together, where you will talk about the two-day tour ahead of you in a relaxed atmosphere.
Day 3 and 4: Overnight tour
The following two days you will spend together with your group, the guide and the dogs in the wilderness! For this purpose you will drive with the sleds to a charming wilderness cabin about 40 km away. Depending on the weather conditions you will need about 4 hours for that, in case of bad weather a bit longer.
When you reach your overnight destination, first take care of the dogs. They have worked hard and deserve a cuddle and good food! After that it's your turn. You spend the night in a simple rustic wilderness cabin, where there is neither electricity nor running water. But there is plenty to do: cutting and splitting firewood, lighting the fire, heating the stove, drawing water from the river - enough to enjoy a well-deserved dinner!
This experience is far from conventional tourist offers and requires your active cooperation. Immerse yourself in the fascinating life in the wilderness of Swedish Lapland!
After spending the night together in the wilderness cabin, you will start the next morning after breakfast on a day tour back to the husky camp.
Day 5: Full-day dog sledding tour
Today you will go on a day trip with the huskies and steer the sled one last time on snow-covered trails and through white winter landscapes. The length and duration will be tailored to the group's preferences and the weather conditions. Back from the tour, you will first tend to the dogs before winding down the rest of your holiday. A traditional sauna is the perfect way to do this.
Day 6: Departure
Today you will have to say farewell to the dogs after breakfast, because then you will be taken back to the airport or bus station in Vilhelmina. After last goodbyes, your husky adventure in the far north will end here and you will start your journey home with many incomparable memories and experiences.
Accommodation
On the overnight tour, you will all sleep together in an authentic, wood-heated wilderness cabin where there is no running water or electricity (shared accommodation).
The four nights on the husky kennel you are accommodated in normal double rooms with all modern amenities and shared bathroom.
Catering
This tour offers you full board, which means you don't need to bring anything (except some personal snacks for the road). You will get your meals at the husky farm or during the tours. On the overnight tours, your guide will provide you with breakfast and dinner at each overnight location and an outdoor lunch.
Requirements
You should have a certain level of physical fitness as you will be sledding for several days in a row. You should help the dogs on climbs or in deep snow by dismounting and pushing along. You are traveling as a team and it is not called dog sledding sport for nothing.
We ask for your understanding that the weight limit is 100 kg. There is quite a bit of luggage to carry on this tour and otherwise it is too much weight for the dogs to pull.
Important information about the overnight tour:
Please note that your luggage for the overnight tour should not weigh more than 10 kg. We recommend a backpack or a sports bag. The rest of your luggage will remain in your room. As your thin gloves may get damp or wet when working with the dogs, you should carry a spare pair with you.
Important note regarding the New Year's tour:
The programme has been adjusted for the New Year's week: the tour lasts 8 days / 7 nights and, in addition to the services described above, includes a second overnight husky tour (instead of the full-day tour on day 5) and a snowshoe or ski hike. During the second overnight tour, you will stay in a heated tent. Please contact us for further information.
Additional Information:
The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. Optional activities have very limited availability; we recommend booking them well in advance, often weeks or months before departure, as they may be fully booked by the time of travel.
