Pre-season Training at the Huskyfarm

This five day star based trip takes you into the daily life of a working husky kennel run by Pirate Husky AS and offers insights into preparations for the winter season. You stay close to the dogs, learn routines, and take on daily tasks such as feeding, harnessing and unharnessing, plus checks after training. Training is done with wheeled dog sled rigs, complemented by husky walks, free running, and time for calm contact with the dogs. The schedule depends on weather, temperatures, and the dogs' needs. The group stays small, so you receive close guidance and develop responsibility within the team. Good basic fitness and a willingness to actively participate are required.

Day 1, Arrival and First Kennel Visit
Arrival takes place in the evening with check in at your accommodation. Afterwards you go to the first kennel visit with an introduction to the huskies and the evening feeding. This is followed by dinner and the overnight stay at your accommodation. The travel service begins with dinner.

Day 2: Training Basics and First Ride
In the morning, you start by feeding and learn about training equipment, daily routines, and preparing the dogs for the winter season. Depending on the weather, temperatures, and the dogs’ needs, training runs with wheeled carts are on the program: harnessing the dogs, driving a team, and checking them after training. Alternatively or in addition, husky walks or free running are possible, to spend time with the dogs and help with socialization, and there may also be work in the barn. At midday, you eat at the kennel or at your accommodation. In the evening, feeding, dinner, and an overnight stay follow.

Day 3: Training and Dog Care
After the morning feeding and the kennel routines, the program depends on the conditions. Planned is a longer training session with the dogs, followed by careful aftercare: checking paws, stretching, brushing, and basic care. In between, time is deliberately left to calm down with the huskies and deepen the connection. Depending on what is needed, you will also help with maintenance in the barn. In the evening, there is feeding, a puppy or husky walk depending on conditions, dinner, and the overnight stay.

Day 4: Final Training and Husky Time
The day begins with feeding and the usual kennel routines. Depending on temperatures and conditions, you will do one last training session or help with behind the scenes tasks and the daily care routines. There is also time planned for social interaction with the huskies, including free running, photos, and quiet moments near the dogs. In the evening, there is the final feeding, a farewell dinner, and the overnight stay.

Day 5: Farewell and Departure
To conclude, the final morning feeding is on the schedule before you say goodbye to the dogs. Afterwards, there is a departure to the airport. After breakfast, the tour services end.

Accommodation:
You can choose between two types of accommodation near the kennel. An apartment in the lodge is available, about five minutes from the kennel, including transfers between the accommodation and the kennel. Alternatively, there is a glamping tent right at the kennel, rustic yet cozy, with a stove and beds, the huskies as your nearest neighbors. There is a simple toilet but no shower. Meals are included in the program, from dinner on day 1 to breakfast on day 5.

Special features:
All transfers are organized, including pickup and return to Lakselv Airport, as well as rides between the accommodation and the kennel. Activities take place depending on conditions. Changes to the daily schedule are therefore possible. Group size is limited to a maximum of four participants, and at least one person is required. Please note that the tour is not wheelchair accessible. Weather appropriate warm clothing is recommended, including a waterproof outer layer, sturdy footwear, and work gloves.
