Day 2: Husky Camp and First Full Day Tour
After breakfast, you will be picked up and taken to the husky camp. The day is all about getting to know the dogs: you’ll cuddle and feed them, learning about their individual personalities and prepare your own husky team - including harnessing them and positioning them correctly on the lines - all under the supervisioin of your guide. After an equipment check and preparations, you’ll set off on a full-day tour through forest, open wetlands, over hills and across frozen lakes, gaining confidence in sled driving (tandem sleds for two; single sleds available at an extra charge). You’ll spend the night in a private wilderness cabin at the Husky Camp.
Days 3 to 5: Wilderness tour through Langsua
With the equipment prepared the day before and after a few final preparations, a short transfer will take you to the starting point of your wilderness tour. From there, you’ll set off on a dog sled heading towards Langsua National Park and the surrounding areas. You’ll travel through alpine terrain and boreal forest, past lakes and streams and uphill towards Skredalen and Langsukollen. An average of 20 to 40 kilometres is planned per day, although the itinerary is directly influenced by the weather and snow conditions. Each person is responsible for themselves, the dogs, the sleds and the equipment, accompanied by an experienced tour guide. Along the way, you’re likely to spot tracks of foxes, moose, lynx, wolverines and reindeer; with a bit of luck, you might even catch a glimpse of the animals themselves.
Depending on the route, you’ll spend the night in a wilderness hut or in expedition tents – without running water and electricity, but very close to nature. There, you’ll share the chores: heating the accommodation, melting snow for water, tending to the dogs and preparing dinner together.
On the afternoon of Day 5, you’ll return to the Husky Camp and, once everything has been sorted and you’ve said goodbye to your new four-legged friends, you’ll continue on to the Beito Resort Hotel to spend the final night of your trip there.
Day 6: Return Journey to Oslo
After breakfast, you’ll travel by bus back to Oslo Airport. You’re sure to look back fondly on your time with the huskies in the Norwegian mountains for a long time to come.
Accommodation:
On Day 1 and Day 5, you will stay at the Beito Resort Hotel in standard double rooms with a shower and toilet (some with a bathtub), as well as a seating area and a TV. The bed consists of separate beds that are pushed together. The hotel’s facilities include, amongst other things, a large swimming pool, a sauna and a restaurant. A special feature of the hotel: there is a cabin in the hallway which you are welcome to use.
At the Husky Camp, you will spend Day 2 in a private wilderness cabin – depending on availability, either the Huldra Cabin or the Jotun Cabin – both of which are secluded and offer views of Lake Øyangen. There is no electricity in the cabin; heating is provided by a wood-burning stove, light comes from candles, and a wood-fired sauna by the lake is also available. Water is provided in a jerrican or the sauna stove for washing, and composting toilets are located just down the forest path.
On days 3 and 4, depending on conditions, you will spend the night in the wilderness in a simple cabin or in a tent (shared accommodation). Here you will find neither running water nor electricity, and you will be involved in the daily tasks of heating, looking after the dogs and cooking meals.
Meals:
This trip includes a mixed meal plan: during your hotel stays, only breakfast is included. For lunch and dinner, you will find many restaurants in the village. Full board is included during your time at the husky camp and on the wilderness tour.
Requirements:
No previous dog sledding experience is required, but very good fitness, stamina, and team spirit are essential, as you must push actively on climbs and, depending on weather and snow conditions, significantly more strength may be needed. The program has an expedition feel and remains weather and snow dependent, so stages and daily plans may be adjusted. Each person carries personal responsibility for themselves, the dog team, the sled, and equipment, always under the supervision of the guide. Participation is a fixed part of the trip, for example heating, melting snow, cooking, and daily dog care. Pregnant guests cannot take part in the tours. Any limitations or special needs should be communicated in advance.
Additional Information:
The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. Optional activities have very limited availability; we recommend booking them well in advance, often weeks or months before departure, as they may be fully booked by the time of travel.
