Tour ID: 1830813 in Lappland ●●●●● 93 Reviews
Next Level Husky Adventure is a demanding six day dog sledding tour in the Vindelfjällen Nature Reserve, with stages that can only be reached by dog sled. You drive your own sled and take an active role every day, from caring for the dogs to tasks at the cabin or in camp. Crossing frozen lakes, forest trails, and mountain climbs, you build your mushing routine step by step. Cold, wind, ice, and heavy snow are part of the experience and directly affect the route and daily distances. You stay in remote wilderness cabins without running water or electricity, and depending on the conditions also in an expedition tent. Take your mushing skills to the next level!
Next Level Husky Adventure: the itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Kennel Briefing
After pick up at the bus stop in Slussfors, you will be taken to the guesthouse, where you will spend the first and last night. You will receive warm clothing and equipment so that you are fully prepared for the days ahead. At the kennel, there will be a briefing, including basics for safe sledding, harnessing and unharnessing, and correct parking during breaks, before you meet the dogs. After dinner with the guide, there is time for the sauna or relaxing in the living room. Depending on your arrival time, meals begin with lunch or dinner.

Day 2: Into the Wilderness of Kirjesålandet
After breakfast, the bags are packed and at the kennel the sled, equipment, and provisions are prepared. Then you harness your own team and travel into the wilderness of the Kirjesålandet Nature Reserve, which is part of the larger Vindelfjällen Reserve. Along the way and at the cabin, helping out is part of the day: fetching water, prepare firewood and many other tasks around the dogs and the camp. With the guide’s support, you develop step by step a routine in caring for your husky team.
Day 3: Via Lake Routes to the cabin Aivak
Part of today's route follows a course recently used by the best northern European mushers at the Metsjövidda Challenge. You glide across the vast lakes of the Vindelfjällen Nature Reserve and head towards the remote cabin Aivak, where the dogs are cared for first after arrival. Afterwards, you organize daily life in the cabin together under simple conditions.
Day 4: Ascent Into the Mountains and a Possible Night in a Tent
Today the route heads toward the mountains and climbs to around 800 to 1000 meters in altitude. This will be a really tough day, where you actively support your team and help push the sled on ascents or in deep snow. As usual, the lunch break takes place in the middle of the wilderness - with great views of the surrounding nature. Depending on the weather, you may sleep in a tent tonight.
Day 5: Return Through Forest Sections to the Kennel
On the last day on the sled, you travel again through forest areas and over the final climbs before reaching the kennel in the afternoon. After arrival, the sleds are unloaded together and stored away, followed by saying goodbye to the dogs. Back at the guesthouse, you can take a hot shower and relax in the sauna. The day ends with a farewell dinner, offering the perfect opportunity to look back on the past few days and your adventures.
Day 6: Departure After Breakfast
After a hearty breakfast, it is time to say goodbye. You will be taken with your luggage to the bus stop in Slussfors and dropped off in good time for the desired connection. Meals end today after breakfast.
Accommodation:
You spend the first and last night in a fully equipped guesthouse with shower, sauna and Wi-Fi, sharing a room with twin beds. Please note that swimwear is required in the sauna.
During the tour you stay in remote wilderness cabins without running water and without electricity (shared accommodation). These cabins have only one room with bunk beds, which is shared by all participants. The dry toilet is located outside the cabin. Depending on the weather, one night may be spent in an expedition tent. In the cabins and in camp, shared routines are part of daily life, especially around warmth, water, and caring for the dog teams. You will heat with firewood, fetch water from a nearby river or lake, and light comes from candles.
Requirements for participants:
This tour is physically demanding and requires either prior sled experience or very good fitness and mental strenght. You travel through highly varied terrain, and on climbs or in deep snow you must actively help by pushing the sled. Cold, wind, ice, and snowfall are normal and may affect the route, stages, and a possible night in a tent.
The tour is guided in English, and sufficient language comprehension is required for safety reasons.
Age limit: 18 to 65 years, guests over 60 are assessed individually.
Dietary options are limited to no restrictions or vegetarian, vegan is not possible. Allergies should be clearly stated with severity level, preferences cannot be guaranteed. The provider may exclude guests if health information is clearly false or incomplete.
Additional Information:
The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. Optional activities have very limited availability; we recommend booking them well in advance, often weeks or months before departure, as they may be fully booked by the time of travel.

April 2019 - Incredible Lapland Dogsledding Trip of a Lifetime!
My wife and I gave each of our children a special "14 year old adventure" for their 14th birthdays, and my son wanted to go dogsledding. We searched around on the Internet for places to go, and I found HeyHusky and Petter Karlsson. Everything was very easy to arrange, as Alwin at HeyHusky was extremely responsive and helpful in helping us with flights and transfers to the Lapland. Once there, the experience was unforgettable. From the moment we met our guide, Adam, everything was perfect. The dogs were well taken-care of and flawlessly trained. Being from Colorado, the snow was no problem for us, but neither my son nor I had ever experienced dogsledding before. That was no problem! We were easily taught what we needed to know, and after a brief introduction and initial stay in the base house, we were off the next morning on our adventure. The northern lights in April were amazing! The trip consisted about about 30-50k of sledding each day, and staying in a new hut each night. The huts were warm and well-supplied. We participated in feeding and taking care of the dogs. The second hut even featured a wood-burning stove sauna! The views of the Swedish Lapland were beautiful, and we crossed frozen rivers and lakes multiple times. The photos I took are breathtaking. The food was all homemade, and the meat was from the local farm or from their hunting. The "Magic Moose" was extremely good!. I can't say enough great things about the HeyHusky and Karlsson Sled Dogs experience. My son loved the trip and we will remember it for the rest of our lives.

Eine wunderbare erlebnisreiche Tour mit Schlittenhunden! Einmalig. Wir waren bei -46° unterwegs, waren perfekt ausgerüstet. Man sollte aber tatsächlich Erfahrung mit Schnee, Eis und Kälte haben.
