Husky Week in Northern Finland: The itinerary

Day 1: Arrival
Your adventure begins with your arrival at Ivalo Airport, from where you will be picked up and taken to the husky camp run by German emigrants Markus and Josephin. They emigrated to Finland in 2015 and now live there with 40 huskies, some of which they took in from poor backgrounds. The dogs all live together in a pack here and are like family members; the camp is a true paradise for animal lovers. In addition to the free-living husky pack, there are also free-range organic chickens and yaks, Mongolian cattle. Depending on flight times, you will arrive in the afternoon or evening and receive a warm welcome. After an introduction to the camp, you can fortify yourself with a traditional Finnish dinner and prepare for the days ahead.

Day 2-4: Musher workshop and husky tours
After breakfast, you will take part in a theory workshop in which you will learn the basics of mushing (dog sledding). You will then have the opportunity to put your newly acquired knowledge into practice on your first sled ride. The next three days are devoted entirely to sledging: you will start by driving somewhat easier routes before moving on to more challenging terrain, depending on the guide's assessment of the group's abilities. You will steer your own team through the breathtaking landscape of Northern Finland, the last European winter wilderness, and experience everything that Finnish cuisine, culture and landscape have to offer during your stay. In the afternoon, a traditional Finnish sauna awaits you, including an ice bath.

Day 5: Husky hike
You go on a guided husky trekking tour with a lunch break in the open air. Enjoy the peace and splendor of Lapland without the excitement of sledding. If you wish, you can book additional activities such as a snowmobile safari or a visit to a reindeer farm. Warm up in the sauna in the afternoon and don't forget to look out for the Northern Lights after dark!


Day 6: Departure
After a final breakfast at the camp, you will be taken back to Ivalo Airport. You will start your journey home with unforgettable memories in your luggage. This vacation not only offers you a unique nature experience, but also an insight into the life of emigrants and their animals in the Finnish wilderness.

Accommodation:
You'll return to the camp every day and are accommodated in a cozy but rustic cabin for 2 - 4 people. This contains single beds (bunk beds), electricity, a heat pump, a wood-burning stove, a small kitchenette, en-suite shower and WC. The bedroom and living area are combined in one room. It has all the amenities of Central European standards, but a fire must be lit on cold days.
There is also a panorama tipi with basic electricity and outdoor toilet but no running water, as well as a yurt without electricity or running water, for the complete off-grid outdoor experience. If you would like to spend one or more nights in one of these two accommodations, please contact us.
If you wish, you can spend a night in the wilderness and sleep in a heated tipi tent.

Hands-on adventure:
This tour is for those who enjoy participating in the daily tasks of the husky camp. This includes chopping wood, melting water, and stoking the stove.
