Exclusive Husky Expedition Northbound: the itinerary
Day 1: Arrival, Equipment and Preparation
After being picked up in Arvidsjaur or Jörn, you head straight to the husky kennel, where equipment is handed out and the material for the coming days is prepared. Afterwards you continue to the guesthouse in Glommersträsk, your home for the nights before and after your multi-day husky tour. Catering begins in the evening with dinner - the perfect time for getting in the mood for the upcoming days.

Day 2: Into the Fjäll and the First Night in a Tent
Early in the morning, following breakfast, the final organization takes place. Then, the dogs and luggage are loaded and driven to the starting point, presumably in Örnvik. On-site you pack the sleds with food and equipment, harness the dogs, and set off on the first stage. At first the climbs are moderate, but the weight of the sleds makes the day physically demanding. In the evening you choose a suitable campsite, take care of the dogs first, then set up the tents and organize water by fetching it or melting snow. Depending on conditions, a campfire site is set up, dinner is cooked and the dogs are checked again, lightly massaged and fed, before you retire to your tent for the night.
Days 3 to 6: Vast Landscapes, Mountains, and Changing Trails
The route leads through the landscape of the Swedish Fjäll, over mountains and through valleys, initially heading towards the Norwegian border. Crossing Lake Mavas, you head to the STF hut Pieskehaure, in good weather with views of the Sulitelma glacier, then continue over the mountains, past Vaimok and into Tarredalen. Afterwards, the route runs towards Kvikkjokk and later turns south back again to the starting point. The daily distances are mostly around 50 km, but can be significantly shorter in bad weather or longer in good conditions. Along the way, you will likely spend the night alternating between tents and wilderness huts, so that outdoor everyday life and the stages are sensibly combined. With each day, routine, teamwork, and responsibility for your own dog team grow, including helping on challenging passages by pushing and running alongside the sled. Upon your return on Day 6, a hot shower and dinner await you.
Day 7: Buffer or Free Day
This day is planned as a buffer in case weather or trail conditions require more time in the wilderness. If the tour runs according to plan, it serves as a rest day for the dogs and for your own recovery. Optional activities are available in the surrounding area, such as snowshoeing in Glommersträsk or snowmobiling in Arvidsjaur (for an additional charge). In the afternoon or evening, you can use the sauna and hot tub, after which the day winds down with dinner in the grill kota.
Day 8: Farewell and Departure
After breakfast, catering ends. Then it is time to say goodbye before a transfer takes you back to Arvidsjaur or Jörn. You will embark on your journey home with memories of days spent in the fjäll with the huskies.
Accommodation:
You stay in Glommersträsk in a guesthouse near the kennel for the nights before and after the multi-day husky expedition. Built in a typical Swedish style, it can host up to 8 people. Inside the house, you will find four bedrooms, three with double beds and one with two single beds. There is also a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, a bathroom with a shower and toilet, and several storage rooms. The kitchen is equipped with a stove, oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, and kettle—perfect for preparing snacks in between. For relaxing hours, you can light the fireplace. Free Wi-Fi rounds off your stay at the guesthouse.
During the expedition, depending on how the tour progresses, you will stay overnight in tents or in wilderness cabins without running water and electricity. Here, all travelers are accommodated together; single room options are not available. Depending on the group composition, it may not be possible to separate tents by gender. The nights outside are planned flexibly so that stage lengths and campsites can be adapted to the weather and trail. In the cabins, a dry, sheltered space is available, while in the tent, pitching it is part of the daily routine.
Requirements:
This tour is for guests with documented experience with multi day husky tours with their own team. Please state in your booking request where you have travelled before and what the tour was like. You must have excellent physical fitness and good health, and be willing to help the dogs by running alongside and pushing the sled, for example in deep snow or uphill, and to stand on the sled for hours. The route is extremely weather dependent, so the trail, travel times, and individual days may be adjusted for safety reasons. Age and weight restrictions must be respected.
The age limit for this tour is 16-65 years. This is due to the sometimes harsh conditions that can prevail on a tour through the wilderness, which are often unsuitable for children, and – in the case of the upper age limit – to the decline in physical fitness, cognitive abilities, and reaction time with age. In individual cases, participation up to the age of 70 is possible by prior arrangement.
Since the dogs have to transport not only the weight of the sled and you, but also optionally a second person in the sled, plenty of food and equipment, there is a weight limit of 100 kg to prevent overloading. If you exceed this weight, please feel free to contact us. Depending on the group composition, there may be options that allow you to participate in a tour. If you fail to inform us of your weight in advance or falsify it, we reserve the right to exclude you from the tour.
Recommendations for your arrival:
We recommend arriving no later than early afternoon to allow enough time to prepare everything for the start of the husky tour the following morning. If this is not possible, arriving a day earlier is also an option.
Equipment:
Please note that the provided clothing is only available in sizes S-XXL and the shoes in sizes 36-46. If you are outside this range, we will gladly provide you with tips on how to find the right equipment. For the time on the trail during the multi-day husky tour, it is best to bring a small backpack or a soft travel bag, or alternatively, you can get a dry bag on site. The weight should be under 8 kg so the dogs don't have too much to pull. The rest of your luggage will stay in your room at the guesthouse. Besides this, you will need swimwear for use of the sauna and hot tub.
Additional Information:
The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. Optional activities have very limited availability; we recommend booking them well in advance, often weeks or months before departure, as they may be fully booked by the time of travel.
