Husky wilderness trip in Alaska: the itinerary
Day 1 to Day 7: A Real Adventure in the Alaskan Wilderness
Upon arrival in Fairbanks, you will receive a warm welcome and be taken to your accommodation near the dog sledding school. Here, you will have the chance to meet your husky team and get acquainted with the dogs. Your first steps into the world of dog sledding begin with an orientation, where you will learn how to feed and care for your huskies before enjoying your own breakfast. In the afternoon, the schedule includes your first short training sessions to practice steering the sled. The next day, you set off with your husky sled team on an exciting tour through the Chatanika Valley. You will learn how to guide the dogs effectively while gliding through the impressive winter landscape. Along the way, you will take breaks to feed the huskies and enjoy the magnificent scenery.

After a long day on the sleds, you will reach your first camp in the evening, where you will unload the sleds, care for the dogs, and prepare a hearty dinner by the campfire. The days pass with exciting adventures as you spend the nights in rustic cabins or Arctic Oven tents. You will care for your huskies, explore new wilderness routes, and enjoy evenings under the starry sky, complete with the chance to observe the breathtaking Northern Lights. On the final day of your adventure, you will pack your belongings after breakfast and prepare for the return trip to the dog school. A delicious farewell dinner awaits you there, where you can enjoy time with your new friends and the huskies.
Accommodation:
During your trip, you will stay in comfortable, rustic cabins and Arctic Oven tents without running water or electricity. The accommodations offer a warm retreat after a long day in the cold. Sleeping spots are equipped with comfortable sleeping bags specifically designed for cold temperatures. Fitted with wood stoves, the shelters provide a cozy atmosphere where you can relax and recharge your batteries.
Hosts
Torsten and Peggy are a German musher couple who emigrated to Sweden early on, built up a racing and touring kennel there, and competed in long-distance races like the Finnmarksløpet. After the birth of their two daughters, the family moved on to Alaska, where they settled down permanently and relocated their Scandinavian touring kennel. Their daily life revolves around training and caring for their huskies. Working with the dogs allows them to live the exact lifestyle they always envisioned. In their free time, they are outdoors almost constantly: fishing, canoeing, hiking, hunting, and harvesting natural resources are integral parts of their lives. They consciously live close to nature, taking advantage of everything Alaska has to offer as the "Last Frontier," and look forward to authentically sharing this special lifestyle with travelers.
Additional Information:
The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. Optional activities have very limited availability; we recommend booking them well in advance, often weeks or months before departure, as they may be fully booked by the time of travel.
