Husky Wilderness Expedition in Lapland: The itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Lapland
Your adventure begins with a meeting at Ivalo airport. From there, you will be transferred to your accommodation, a holiday cabin in Saariselka or Kiilopää, which you will share with 2–4 people per apartment. Once you are settled in, a delicious dinner awaits you. Enjoy the local cuisine and relax in the sauna, while you can already look forward to the days ahead.

After a hearty breakfast, preparations for your expedition begin. To be best prepared for your tour, you will receive a safety briefing and an introduction to driving a dog sled. Then it's time to go: you get on your dog sled and steer the eager huskies through the dreamlike landscape of Lapland, with its snowy forests and white meadows. After a coffee break along the way, you'll reach your accommodation for the night - a cozy wooden cabin or tent in the middle of the wilderness. However, before it's time for your well-deserved dinner, first take care of your dogs, and thank them for their hard work. Rest well today for the adventures ahead, and listen to the silence of the north.
Day 3 - 5: Dog sledding through Lapland
Each of these days begins with breakfast, followed by a full-day dog sled ride through the Finnish wilderness. You'll glide through snow-covered forests, across frozen lakes and along scenic river courses. You may even discover traces of Lapland's animals on your journey? During a daily coffee break on the way, you can warm up an regain your strength before continuing your way through the snow. In the evening, you will reach your accommodation, where you will have a delicious dinner and review the experiences of the day, after taking care of the dogs.
Day 6: Return from the wilderness
After breakfast and a final dog sled ride (incl. coffee break), you will be transferred from Kakslauttanen to Saariselka/Kiilopää. The day ends with dinner and a traditional smoke sauna. Enjoy the warmth and relaxation as you look back on the past days.
Day 7: Farewell to Lapland
Today, unfortunately, you have reached the last day of your trip. After breakfast, there will be a transfer back to Ivalo airport. With a heart full of memories and a camera full of fantastic photos, you will begin your journey home.
Accommodation
On the first and sixth day, you will be accommodated in holiday cabins in Saariselka or Kiilopää, with 2 - 4 people sharing an apartment. During the husky expedition, you will stay in wooden cabins or tents in the middle of the untouched nature of Finnish Lapland. These have neither running water nor electricity and are shared by the participants as communal accommodations.
Requirements
Please note that dog sledding is a sport and therefore requires a certain level of fitness. For example, you should be able to walk through deep snow or occasionally help the dogs push the sled. During the tour, you will be responsible for your own dog team, so you will spend a lot of time with them. That's why you should not be afraid of these animals.

The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period.
