Husky Mushing Experience in Norway's Mountains: the itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Beitostølen
You will travel by public bus from Oslo Airport to Beitostølen and check in at the Beito Resort Hotel. Take your time settling in and get yourself in the mood for the days ahead with the huskies!

Day 2: Off into the wilderness
After breakfast, you will be picked up for a transfer to the husky camp and visit the husky farm in the mountains together with your guide. There, you will get to know the dogs and pack the equipment for the upcoming tour. A short car ride takes you to the starting point, where you will receive thorough instruction on how to handle, look after and steer your husky team. Once the sleds are loaded, the time has finally come for the huskies to pull you in pairs on tandem sleds into the Norwegian winter landscape (single sled possible for extra charge). On the way, you will stop for a break at a sheltered spot before you reach the traditional mountain cabin at the end of the day. Here, the simple daily life begins - without electricity, running water or Wi-Fi, and with active participation in the routines and caring for the dogs. Please keep in mind that the weather, snow, and trail conditions will determine the pace and schedule for the day.
Day 3: Back to Beitostølen
You will start the day with breakfast for the dogs and yourselves, then get the teams ready and set off on the return journey. As you become more accustomed to the routine, you will be able to handle your husky team with greater confidence and focus more on the surroundings and on enjoying the experience. After a lunch break and a rest for the dogs, you will continue on, aiming to be back at the husky camp before evening. Once everything has been sorted and you've said goodbye to the dogs, you will be transferred back to the Beito Resort Hotel and spend the night there.
Day 4: Free Day
After breakfast, you can spend the day as you please. Relax with a good book, enjoy the winter scenery, or explore the area on your own. Beitostølen is a popular ski area for downhill and cross-country skiing, and offers a wide range of activities, such as ski lessons or a winter horse ride. For lunch and dinner, we recommend one of the local restaurants.
Day 5: Departure
Today it's time to pack your bags and say goodbye. You can enjoy a delicious breakfast one last time before taking the public bus back to Oslo Airport and continuing your journey home from there. You're sure to look back fondly on Norway's beautiful winter landscapes for a long time to come.
Accommodation:
You will stay for 3 nights (days 1, 3 and 4) in a standard double room at the Beito Resort Hotel, which features a shower, toilet and, in some cases, a bathtub, as well as a seating area and TV. The beds are separate beds pushed together. The hotel is situated in the heart of Beitostølen, at the foot of the ski centre, and boasts a fantastic view of Slettefjell directly from the lobby. Take a few laps in the large swimming pool, warm up in the sauna and enjoy a meal in the restaurant (lunch and dinner not included). You can also look forward to fitness facilities and a squash court. A special feature of the hotel: there is a cabin in the hallway, which you are welcome to use to relax or get to know new people.
You will spend one night in a traditional Norwegian wilderness cabin in the mountains (shared accommodation). The cabin offers a genuine back-to-basics experience with no electricity, no running water and no Wi-Fi.
Meals:
This tour includes a mixed meal plan: At the hotel in Beitostølen, only breakfast is included, but the wilderness overnight stay includes full board.
Requirements:
No prior experience is required for this tour. What is needed is a reasonable level of fitness, a willingness to learn, team spirit and endurance during though terrain or hard weather conditions. Dog sledding is an experience that involves active participation in harnessing and unharnessing the dogs, driving the sled and looking after the dogs after the tour. The guides will give you clear instructions and accompany you throughout. Pregnant women cannot take part. Please let us know if you weigh more than 99 kg, have any special dietary requirements, any physical or mental limitations as well as any other special requirements in advance so that suitable arrangements can be made.
Additional Information:
The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. Optional activities have very limited availability; we recommend booking them well in advance, often weeks or months before departure, as they may be fully booked by the time of travel.
