This five-day winter trip combines a few peaceful days in Beitostølen with a compact husky adventure in the Norwegian mountains. Learn about the work of sled dogs and steer your own husky team on a tour into the wilderness - usually in pairs on a tandem sled. You will spend one night in a traditional cabin, getting up close to nature and embracing a simpler way of life. You will take on tasks that are part of everyday mushing life, from harnessing the dogs and looking after them on the trails to heating the cabin with fire wood or fetching water in a lake or river.
Husky Mushing Experience in Norway's Mountains: the itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Beitostølen
You will travel by bus from Oslo Airport to Beitostølen and check in at the Beito Resort Hotel. Take your time settling in and get yourself in the mood for the days ahead with the huskies!

After breakfast, you will be taken to the husky camp and visit the husky farm in the mountains together with your guide. There, you will get to know the dogs and pack the equipment for the upcoming tour. At the starting point, you will receive thorough instruction on how to harness and unharness the dogs, steer safely and look after your husky team. Once the sleds are loaded, the time has finally come for the huskies to pull you into the Norwegian winter landscape. On the way, you will stop for a break at a sheltered spot before your reach the traditional mountain cabin in the afternoon. Here, the simple daily life begins - without electricity, running water or Wi-Fi, and with active participation in the routines and caring for the dogs. Please keep in mind that the weather, snow, and trail conditions will determine the pace and schedule for the day.
Additional Information:
The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. Optional activities have very limited availability; we recommend booking them well in advance, often weeks or months before departure, as they may be fully booked by the time of travel.
