Husky Camp Adventure in the Yukon

Live the life of a dog musher for a few days! You will help with the daily tasks at a ranch and in a wilderness camp, look after the huskies and explore the impressive landscapes of the Yukon on a sled. An authentic experience awaits you, far from mass tourism and everyday stress. Instead, you will work together as a team with humans and animals, surrounded by beautiful nature. Husky Camp Adventure in the Yukon: The itinerary

The itinerary can change due to weather conditions, group dynamics and safety reasons. You may spend two nights in the wilderness instead of just one.

Day 1: Introduction to the world of huskies
In the morning, you will be picked up from the lobby of your hotel in Whitehorse at around 10:00 a.m. and join the other participants in running any last-minute errands in the city. You will then be taken to Sky High Wilderness Ranch, which is about 20 km from Whitehorse. There you can get to know each other over a light lunch before you finally meet the curious huskies. After an introduction to the basics of dog care and handling the sled, you will harness your husky team for the first run. Enjoy these first impressions and feel free to ask the guides for tips. Spend the evening with a warm dinner and a relaxing sauna session.

Day 2: Day trip with the dog sled
You get up early to provide the huskies with food and water. Then it's time for your own breakfast in the lodge dining room, where you plan the day's itinerary together. You will go on a tour through the Fish Lake Area and discover its beautiful nature. Along the way, you can build a deep bond with your dog team by praising and thanking your four-legged friends during breaks. After returning to the ranch, you can relax in the sauna. The northern location of your accommodation is also perfect for observing the Northern Lights.

Day 3: Adventure in the wilderness camp
Today you set off by dog sled for a night in the untouched wilderness, heading for the wall tent camp at Dry Creek. As you venture deeper into the breathtaking scenery surrounding the Fish Lake Area, you will be gripped by a sense of freedom. The route follows the shores of the lake and then heads up into the coastal mountains to the south. A great landscape for amazing pictures! In the evening, make yourself comfortable by the woodstove and enjoy the peace and quiet in the wall tent.


Day 4: Return from the wilderness and farewell
Get an early start to the day and feed the huskies before sitting down to breakfast yourself. After a night in the wilderness, pack your things onto the sleds and prepare for the return journey to the Sky High Wilderness Ranch. Feel the fresh air and tranquillity of nature one last time, interrupted only by the sound of dogs' paws and runners in the snow. When you arrive at your destination, you will be greeted with a warm lunch. Then, sadly, it's time to say goodbye to your dog team. You will be taken back to Whitehorse, where you will receive your well-deserved musher diploma. You will spend the night in a hotel in the town. Dinner is not included today!

Day 5: Departure from Whitehorse
After a restful night, you start your journey home. In your luggage are unforgettable memories of your husky camp adventure in the Yukon that will surely stay with you for a long time.

Accommodation:
You will stay in rustic, traditional accommodation throughout your trip. There is no running water or electricity at the Sky High Wilderness Ranch. You can leave your electrical appliances to charge in the evening. Light is traditionally produced with gas and rounds off the cosy atmosphere. The dry toilet is located outside and there is a gravity-fed shower for washing. The price refers to accommodation in a double room. For one or two nights you can relax in the ranch's comfortable lodge or cabins, where you can enjoy a warm sauna. You will then spend one or two nights in a wall tent camp in the wilderness (shared accommodation). Here you will not find electricity, running water, a shower or a sauna. The number of nights spend in the wilderness depends on the dynamics of the group and weather conditions. At the end of the husky camp adventure, you will stay in a hotel in Whitehorse for the last night (double room) before returning home. All meals and non-alcoholic drinks are included in the price except for the meals in Whitehorse.

Requirements:
This journey with an adventurous character brings you closer to the natural, simple life in the far north. Please note that it requires a minimum level of fitness and active participation in all tasks (e.g. cooking, chopping wood, feeding the dogs). Take yourself back to a time when dog sleds were used as a means of transportation and there was no running water or electricity. Leave civilization behind and immerse yourself in the life of a musher, where cooking together on an open fire, chopping wood and fetching water are part of the daily chores.

Equipment:
We will provide you with the boots you will need during your trip. However, you will need to bring or rent high-quality outdoor winter clothing yourself. Please let us know at the time of booking whether you are renting or bringing your own clothing.

Single travelers:
Accommodation in single rooms is hardly possible on this tour. You will therefore share your room with another person.
