Husky Expedition through the Norwegian mountains: the itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Beitostølen
From Oslo Airport, you take the public bus to Beitostølen. There, you’ll check into a standard double room at the Beito Resort Hotel and settle in at your leisure. You’re no doubt already looking forward to meeting the huskies tomorrow!

Day 2: Training Day at the Husky Camp
After breakfast, you’ll check out and be taken to the husky camp. There, a full day of training awaits, offering an insight into the daily tasks at the camp and how the husky farm operates. You’ll start with an equipment check and preparations before setting off in pairs on a full-day trip on a tandem sledge (single sledges are available at an extra cost). The route takes you through deep forest, across open wetlands and hills, and over frozen lakes. At the end of the day, you will spend the night in a private wilderness cabin at the husky camp.
Day 3: Setting off into the wilderness
Today, the wilderness adventure finally begins. The packing and preparations are already done, and the safety equipment and gear for spending the night in the Norwegian mountains are always to hand. A short car ride takes you to the end of the road and the starting point of your journey through snow and vast open spaces. You’ll set off in pairs on tandem sledges, surrounded by nothing but wilderness. Depending on the final route, you’ll spend the night in a cosy cottage, a mountain hut or an expedition tent camp. You’ll usually start at Garli near Beitostølen, head towards Vinstervann and continue across the lake into the Skreddalen valley. In good conditions, the view opens up to Jotunheimen National Park.
After a full day, you’ll actively look after your team, put the dogs on stakeout lines, and ensure they have food, water and rest. Afterwards, the hut is heated, firewood is carried in and dinner is prepared together; the evening remains simple and peaceful by candlelight and the open fireplace.
Day 4: Along the Langsua Nature Reserve Back to Husky Camp
The route continues along the Langsua National Park nature reserve, with the striking Skaget peak – the park’s highest – visible on the horizon. In the afternoon, you will return to the husky camp, take the dogs back to their houses and say goodbye to your team. You will then be transferred back to the Beito Resort Hotel for the night.
Day 5: Free Day in Beitostølen
After breakfast, the rest of the day is yours to spend as you wish. Now it's time to unwind after your dog sledding adventures or to explore your surroundings. Beitostølen is a well-known ski area with restaurants, supermarkets and plenty of opportunities for skiing and snow-based activities.
Day 6: Return Journey to Oslo
Enjoy one last breakfast at the hotel before it’s time to head back. The bus will take you to Oslo Airport, from where you can continue your journey home.
Accommodation:
You will be staying in several different places during this trip.
In Beitostølen, you will spend three nights in a standard double room at the Beito Resort Hotel. In addition to a shower and toilet (some rooms have a bathtub), you will find a cosy seating area and a TV. The bed consists of separate beds that are pushed together. The hotel’s facilities include a large swimming pool, a sauna and a restaurant. You can also look forward to fitness facilities and a squash court. A special feature of the hotel: there is a cabin in the hallway which you are welcome to use.
You will spend one night in a private "off the grid" wilderness cabin at the Husky Camp. Electricity is replaced by a wood-burning stove, and light comes from candles. Drinking water is provided; water for washing is available in a jerrican or via the sauna stove, and the toilets are compostable toilets located outside. We recommend that you bring a power bank with you to charge your electronic devices.
You will spend a further night in the wilderness, depending on the route, in a cottage, a mountain hut or an expedition tent camp (shared accommodation). Far from electricity and running water, here you will experience the simple life surrounded by nature, while lending a hand with the daily chores.
Meals:
This trip includes a mixed board arrangement: only breakfast is included at the hotel in Beitostølen, but full board is provided for the nights spent at the husky camp and in the wilderness.
Requirements:
No prior experience is required; what matters most is being in good physical condition, a willingness to learn and the ability to work as part of a team, as well as the stamina to cope with challenging terrain or harsh weather conditions. Dog sledding is very much a hands-on experience: you will be involved in every stage of the process – from harnessing the dogs and driving the sled to bringing them back to the kennel. The guides give clear instructions and accompany the group; the focus is on the safety of guests and dogs. Pregnant women cannot take part in the dog sled tours. Please notify us in advance if you weigh over 99 kg, have special dietary requirements, physical or mental limitations, or any other special needs, so that appropriate arrangements can be made. Routes and daily schedules may change depending on the weather and conditions.
Additional Information:
The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. Optional activities have very limited availability; we recommend booking them well in advance, often weeks or months before departure, as they may be fully booked by the time of travel.
