Holidays with huskies in Swedish Lapland: the itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Glommersträsk and Dinner Together
After being picked up in Arvidsjaur or Jörn, a transfer will take you to the guesthouse in Glommersträsk. Here, in the peaceful surroundings, you can settle in and tune into the rhythm of the coming days. During your first dinner together, you will get to know the small group and discuss the week's schedule in a relaxed atmosphere, ensuring everyone is well-oriented. The catering begins with this dinner.

Day 2: Introduction to the Husky Team and First Sled Dog Tour
After breakfast, you will receive your winter clothing for the upcoming days and meet the dogs of the husky kennel. This is followed by an introduction to sledding and instructions on how to handle the animals safely before preparing the dogs, putting on their harnesses, and hitching them up together. You will gain your first practical experience on a tour of about 20 km, and look after the dogs back at the kennel. Then, it is time for a short lunch break before you can enjoy some more cuddle time with the dogs. If you have booked the Christmas date, you will head out to fetch the Christmas tree afterwards. The day finally winds down comfortably over dinner, filled with tips and questions about mushing.
Day 3: Snowshoes, Nature Tracks, and Northern Lights Tour
Today, a snowshoe tour leads you through the winter landscape, where, with a little luck, you might spot reindeer, foxes, hares, or birds—or at least discover their tracks. Those who wish can also try their hand at ice fishing. On the Easter date, keep your eyes peeled – maybe the Easter Bunny has hidden an egg or two? In the afternoon or early evening, a Northern Lights tour follows, which—depending on conditions—will take place either as a dog sled ride or by car and/or on snowshoes. Hopefully, the skies will be clear so that you can catch a glimpse of the famous auroras with a bit of luck.
Days 4 to 5: Overnight Dog Sledding Tour
On this day, one of the highlights of your trip begins with the overnight tour: around midday, you will prepare the equipment together and then head out with the dogs into the forests and across swamps, lakes, and open fields. Depending on the weather and trail conditions, the daily stages range between 20 and 30 kilometers. Overnight accommodation will be in a wilderness cabin or a (possibly heated) tent, where everyone in the team takes on tasks—from caring for the dogs, gathering firewood, and fetching water to preparing meals—supported by your guide. Around noon on the fifth day, you will return to the husky kennel, take care of the dogs, and can then rest at the guesthouse or spend more time at the kennel. On the Christmas date, decorating the Christmas tree is also on the afternoon agenda.
Day 6: Visit With Reindeer and a Relaxing Sauna Evening
In the morning, you will visit reindeer in their natural environment and indigenous Sámi people, accompanied by a friend of the kennel. A respectful approach to the animals is paramount; therefore, petting is usually not possible, but feeding is. Perhaps you will even discover a shed antler as a keepsake? In the afternoon or evening, you will relax in the sauna and hot tub, followed by a shared dinner in the grill kota to round off the day.
Day 7: Free Day for Rest or Additional Winter Activities
This day is intentionally left free so that the dogs can rest after the tour and you, too, have time to breathe. If you want to be a bit more active, you could take a snowshoe hike to the husky kennel for more cuddle time (not included). Those seeking more variety will find further winter activities in the Arvidsjaur area, such as snowmobiling or ice driving, organized independently of the program.
Day 8: Farewell and Departure
After breakfast, it is time to say goodbye to the winter tranquility of Glommersträsk. This is followed by the transfer back to Arvidsjaur or Jörn. The catering ends today with breakfast.
Accommodation:
You will stay in a guesthouse in Glommersträsk, just a few minutes' drive from the husky kennel. Built in typical Swedish style, it can accommodate up to 8 people. In the house, you will find four bedrooms, three of which have double beds and one with two single beds. There is also a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, a bathroom with a shower and toilet, and several storage rooms. The kitchen is equipped with a stove, oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, and kettle—perfect for preparing snacks between meals. For cozy hours, you can light the fireplace. Your stay at the guesthouse is rounded off with free Wi-Fi.
For the overnight tour, one night is scheduled in a wilderness cabin or a (possibly heated) tent without electricity and running water (shared accommodation). Depending on the composition of the group, it may not be possible to separate tents by gender.
Important information:
The trip is designed as a small, personal tour and takes place with a maximum of four guests, possibly increasing to 5 - 6 people upon request if children are part of the group. If children take part, sleds are driven with a double team as needed, so one person steers and another sits in the sled, switching depending on age and strength. No previous experience with sled dogs is required, normal fitness and good health are sufficient. For safety reasons, age and weight restrictions apply and must be observed in advance. The order and operation of individual program elements may change depending on weather and trail conditions. Please note that children are generally only allowed to drive the dog sled themselves from the age of 14. This is always at the guide's discretion.
Before and after the tours, you are responsible for the care of your dog team, with support from the guide. All camp tasks are done as a team, from collecting or chopping firewood, fetching water or melting snow to cooking and washing up.
The age limit for this tour is 8-65 years. This is due to the decline in physical fitness, cognitive abilities, and reaction time with age. In individual cases, participation up to the age of 70 is possible by prior arrangement.
Since the dogs have to transport not only the weight of the sled and you, but also optionally a second person in the sled, plenty of food and equipment, there is a weight limit of 100 kg to prevent overloading. If you exceed this weight, please feel free to contact us. Depending on the group composition, there may be options that allow you to participate in a tour. If you fail to inform us of your weight in advance or falsify it, we reserve the right to exclude you from the tour.
Equipment:
Please note that the provided clothing is only available in sizes S-XXL and the shoes in sizes 36-46. If you are outside this range or are bringing children, we will gladly provide you with tips on how to find the right equipment. For the time on the trail during the multi-day husky tour, it is best to bring a small backpack or a soft travel bag, or alternatively, you can get a dry bag on site. The weight should be under 8 kg so the dogs don't have too much to pull. The rest of your luggage will stay in your room at the guesthouse. Besides this, you will need swimwear for use of the sauna and hot tub.
Meals:
Breakfast ingredients will be provided at the guesthouse for you to help yourself. Lunch will depend on the program and may be served in the kota at the husky kennel, in a wilderness cabin or tent upon arrival, or as a sandwich during your trip. Dinner will be served at the guesthouse, unless you are out on a tour, and in the kota on day 6.
Additional Information:
The order of tours and activities within this itinerary may vary due to weather conditions and other contributing factors that must be taken into account by the guides when planning your tour. You will receive the exact order of activities once you arrive on site. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. The safety of guests and animals comes first, and for this reason, we reserve the right to change the itinerary and intensity of activities if and when needed. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. Optional activities have very limited availability; we recommend booking them well in advance, often weeks or months before departure, as they may be fully booked by the time of travel.
