Family holidays in Lapland: the itinerary

Day 1: Arrival
Upon arrival at Kittilä Airport (KTT) or Kolari Train Station, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to your resort. Once there, you will check into your cosy room and, depending on your arrival time, pick up your winter clothing and boots, which will be available for you to use during your stay (alternatively, you can pick them up the next morning). In the evening, a delicious welcome dinner awaits you, where you can sample the regional cuisine. End the day in your cosy accommodation and look forward to the coming days in Lapland.

Meals begin with dinner on the first day and end with lunch on the last day.
You will receive the final schedule for the activities when you check in at the hotel reception.

Day 2: Reindeer experience
Start the day with breakfast before setting off on a reindeer experience. Together, you will make your way to a traditional reindeer farm, where you will learn more about the tradition of reindeer herding and visit a historical museum. Anyone who wants to can also try their hand at throwing a suopunki (Lappish lasso). Do you have what it takes to be a reindeer herder? Afterwards, you will go on a short reindeer sleigh ride through the picturesque winter landscape (total duration of the program: 1 h + possible transfer from the resort). Back at the resort, you can look forward to lunch before spending the rest of the day at your leisure. How about a short walk to get to know the area better? There are toboggans scattered around the grounds – perfect for some fun in the snow! For dinner, you will return to the resort's restaurant.

Day 3: Snowmobile tour & Arctic Sauna World
After breakfast, set off on an exciting snowmobile tour through Lapland's untouched nature. You will first receive an introduction to driving a snowmobile and safety on the tour, then follow the guide into the glittering winter landscapes. Adults (and older children) share a snowmobile in pairs (driver (18+)/passenger), with the option to swap places halfway through the tour. Children participate safely in a sled pulled by the guide's snowmobile. With a distance of approx. 10-15 km, you can enjoy the feeling of freedom on a snowmobile while maintaining a relaxed, family-friendly speed. The entire programme lasts approx. 2 h.
In the afternoon, you can take it a little easier with a visit to Arctic Sauna World. It is beautifully located on the shores of Lake Jerisjärvi and offers fantastic views of the snow-covered landscape. Discover the various themed saunas and enjoy the unique Finnish wellness culture. If you are brave enough, you can take a quick dip in the cold lake between sauna sessions. Swimwear is requires in the Arctic Sauna World. (total duration: approx. 2 h + possible transfer from the resort).


Day 4: Husky tour & Northern Lights walk
Today you will finally meet the friendly huskies! As soon as you arrive at the husky farm, you will be greeted by excited barking. But before you can set off, there will be a short introduction with safety instructions. Once everyone is ready, your approximately 5-6 km long tour will begin! While a professional musher (= dog sled driver) steers the sled, you sit together as a family in the front of the sled and can experience the energy of your husky team up close. Bookings consisting only of adults or children over 12 years of age are allowed to drive the sled themselves in pairs (driver/passenger). In this case, the seats will be swapped halfway through the tour (total duration of the programme: 1 h + possible transfer from the resort).
After some rest in the afternoon, you will go on an evening hike after dinner, heading for a campfire. There you will enjoy hot drinks and biscuits while watching the night sky. If conditions are good, you may even see the dancing Northern Lights!

Day 5: Cross-country skiing course
Today is already the last full day of your trip, which begins as usual with a hearty breakfast. During the day, you will strap on your cross-country skis and take part in a course that is also suitable for beginners. Learn the basics of this sport in a group and look forward to fun and exercise in the fresh air. Suitable for all ages, this activity requires a sense of balance and basic fitness. After the 2-hour excursion is over, you will have earned your lunch. Spend the rest of the day relaxing or visit the hotel's sauna, which you can use free of charge during your stay. Dinner will be served in the restaurant – afterwards, you should check the conditions: perhaps they are right for the Northern Lights?

Day 6: Departure or additional days in the snow
After a final breakfast, it is unfortunately time to say goodbye to Lapland. Depending on your departure time, you may be able to enjoy the winter scenery one last time or have a final lunch. You will then be taken back to Kittilä Airport or Kolari Train Station. With many memories in your luggage, you will leave this winter paradise and surely take a piece of Lapland home with you in your heart.

If you have opted for the longer trip options (7 or 8 days), you can look forward to more days in Lapland. Depending on the final schedule, you will have these days at your leisure or, alternatively, a free morning/afternoon or evening on one of the days described above. You can fill this free time with additional activities of your choice (see extras), hire snowshoes and cross-country skis for your own tours (for a fee) or spend quiet hours in your room or on the resort grounds. In your case, departure is on day 7/8 by transfer to Kittilä Airport or Kolari railway station.

Accommodation:
During your family holiday, you will stay at Harriniva Adventure Resort, Jeris Lakeside Resort or Torassieppi Eco Reindeer Resort (all belonging to the same provider). The resorts are located near the town of Muonio and are surrounded by beautiful nature. The perfect starting point for your time in Lapland! The hotel rooms are comfortably furnished and have their own bathroom with hot shower and the option for bunk beds, extra beds or sofa beds (depending on the room/resort). Larger rooms, a private cabin with sauna or unique Northern Lights accommodation can also be booked for an additional charge (see extras). Meals are served in the restaurant of the respective hotel. The hotel's sauna can also be used free of charge (separate for men and women). The price refers to accommodation in a double room with a minimum occupancy of two people. A single room supplement is charged for solo travellers; children up to the age of 11 receive a discount. More information about the rooms, including photos, can be found under ‘Extras’.

Important information:
To drive a snowmobile, you must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driving licence (category B). Persons under this age or without a driving licence may participate as passengers. Children under the age of 15 will ride in a sled pulled by the guide's snowmobile during the tour. In the case of the husky tour, families with children under the age of 12 will sit together as a group in the front of the guide's sled. Bookings consisting only of adults or children over the age of 12 may drive the sled themselves (2 people per sled).

Where do the activities start?
The activities usually start with a meeting at the reception. From there, you either set off on foot or are taken to the destination by transfer. This transfer is included in the price.
