Day 1: Arrival
Your husky experience in the Swedish wilderness begins in the afternoon with a pickup from Kiruna airport or train station. There you are picked up by a minibus and drive about 1 hour to Moskojärvi. From there you continue by snowmobile for about 3 km until you reach the lodge, where you meet your travel group over a delicious common dinner.
Day 2: Beginner workshop and first dog sled ride
After a hearty breakfast, you receive an introduction about the technique of mushing (dog sledding). You will directly put into practice what you have just learned: together with the crew you harness the dogs and set off on your first training round of about 20 km. Two of you will share a sled with 5 to 6 dogs each. One person stands on the back of the sled and steers, the other makes himself comfortable on the front of the sled and enjoys the ride. In between, you change positions. The guides drive in front with a snowmobile and can help you at any time if something doesn't quite work out right away.
Afterwards you strengthen yourself with a well-deserved lunch and have time to explore the surroundings on foot or with snowshoes in the afternoon. Finally, you can relax comfortably in the wood-heated sauna before starting again the next day.
Day 3: Dog sledding tour
You start again after breakfast, today you will go on a 20 to 30 km husky tour, depending on the weather conditions and your well-being. From now on you drive with 6 dogs in front of the sled, which you will steer again in pairs through the beautiful Swedish winter landscape. If possible, you will take a break along the way, where your guide treats you to lunch on an open fire. Afterwards you drive back to the camp, where you can finish the afternoon stress-free and look forward to a fine dinner.
Day 4: Slightly longer dog sledding tour
Today you start again after breakfast on a tour with the dogs of about 25 to 35 kilometers. It will take you over frozen lakes and through gorgeous snowy fairytale landscapes. As the last days you travel with a team of 6 dogs and two people per dog team. If conditions permit, you will get your lunch outside at some point along the tour this time as well. Back at camp you can relax in the sauna and enjoy a delicious dinner.
Day 5: Longest and last dog sledding tour
After you have sufficiently strengthened yourself at breakfast, you start on your longest and unfortunately already the last dog sled tour. You will be on the trail for about 4 to 6 hours, depending on the weather and your skills and you will cover a distance of 35 to 45 km with 2 persons per 6 dogs team.
Day 6: City trip to Kiruna and visit of an ice hotel
Today the famous ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi and the small town of Kiruna are on the agenda. Immediately after breakfast you will go to the parking lot by snowmobile and from there continue by car to Kiruna. Here you can explore the town individually and visit the famous wooden church. On the way back you will visit the renowned ice hotel together. The entrance fee for this is about 325 SEK and must be paid separately. Back at camp, another delicious dinner awaits before you snuggle into your cozy beds.
Day 7: Ice Fishing
After breakfast, you hike about 4 km along a trail to one of the frozen lakes in the area. Your guide brings everything you need by snowmobile and shows you how to drill a hole through the thick ice of the lake and use the fishing rod. Then you can get comfortable on a reindeer skin and hope for a catch. If no fish bites, try a new hole! In winter the fish are sluggish and the water is dark, so you may have more success with a new hole elsewhere. You all have lunch together around the campfire.
You can fish as long as you like. As soon as you don't feel like it anymore, you can head home and warm up in the sauna.
Your last evening you enjoy at an ice bar including a cozy campfire. With a little luck, even the northern lights will shine for you this night.
Day 8: Departure
Today it is unfortunately already time to pack your bags and say goodbye. After breakfast you will be driven by snowmobile to the parking lot and from there by minibus to the airport, train station or a hotel in Kiruna. The tour ends here and you will set off on your journey home with lots of new knowledge and unforgettable memories.
Accommodation
During your stay you will be accommodated in a cozy lodge that has a total of two 4-bedrooms, three 2-bedrooms and two bathrooms for common use. There is a large recreation room with a fireplace, stereo and plenty of books to browse in comfort. Electricity is not available continuously, but only when the generator is running. You can always use the wood heated sauna and if you like even take an ice bath in the lake in front of the house.
It is also possible to spend a night under the open sky. For this you can find a cozy spot near the lodge on a reindeer skin and wrapped in a thick polar sleeping bag.
Catering
This tour includes full board, which means that you will be provided with delicious, mainly local specialties either on the way on the tours by your guide or at the husky camp.
