Christmas Holidays with Huskies: The itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and welcome dinner
After your arrival in Strömsund (bus station) or Östersund (airport), you will be warmly welcomed and taken to your simple but cozy accommodation in the wilderness. A delicious welcome dinner awaits you here, where you can enjoy your first taste of Swedish cuisine. End the evening in the warm atmosphere of your cabin while listening to the fascinating sounds of nature. You may even have the opportunity to catch your first glimpse of the Northern Lights as you look forward to the adventures ahead.
Day 2: Briefing and first dog sled ride
After a hearty breakfast, you will get to know the lovely huskies, who will delight you with their energy and charm. You will receive comprehensive instructions on how to drive a dog sled and learn all about the necessary equipment and safety precautions. Together with your own team of 3-5 dogs, you will set off on your first trip into the snow-covered forests. This approximately 40-minute tour takes you through picturesque wooded landscapes and over frozen moors, while the sun gently peeks over the horizon between the pines and spruces. After returning to the farm, you look after the huskies together, feed them and check their paws. You then enjoy a warming lunch and have the opportunity to relax in the afternoon before lighting the winter solstice fire and enjoying dinner together around the campfire.

After a traditional Swedish Christmas breakfast, you head out into the frosty countryside to explore the surroundings on snowshoes. You take some huskies with you to help you climb the hills. Along the way, you hang up treats for the wild birds and other animals - a tradition that is practiced every year at the husky farm. On the shore of the nearby lake, you take a short break to enjoy a hot coffee or cocoa, accompanied by gingerbread. You might even prepare a campfire lunch there before heading back. The sky is already glowing in soft pastel shades, an incomparable sight before darkness falls. In the evening, a sumptuous, festive Yule board with all kinds of Swedish delicacies awaits you. Look forward to a cozy Christmas dinner by candlelight!
Day 4: Christmas Day in the wilderness
Today you embark on another, longer sled ride that takes you even deeper into the snow-covered forests. This tour requires teamwork, as you should support the huskies by pushing them up the slope as much as you can. As a reward, you will reach the highest point of the hilly surroundings and enjoy a snack break with a wonderful view of the surrounding winter landscape. After lunch, you can relax in the hut with a hot cider or take a leisurely walk in the darkening woods while the frost glistens on the trees. End the day together with a hearty dinner in the warmth of the hut.
Day 5: Relaxation and ice fishing
Today is all about relaxation and slowing down. Part of the Nordic winter is enjoying life at a different pace. You can try your luck at ice fishing, of course under the expert guidance of Jachym or Katerina, your hosts. The lakes are rich in trout, perch, pike and other fish. You also have the special opportunity to take part in a specially guided mindfulness meditation called the “Healing Husky Circle”. Here you connect spiritually with the energy of the dogs and the nature around you. You will reflect on the stillness of this time of year and observe the Northern Lights before gathering for your final dinner together.
Day 6: Departure and final explorations
On the last day of your unforgettable Christmas vacation, you can browse a little in the craft and gift store after breakfast. You may also want to take a last short walk to the lake or say goodbye to the huskies before it's time to say goodbye. Your memories of this magical time will hopefully stay with you for a long time!

Additional Information:
The order of tours and activities within this itinerary may vary due to weather conditions and other contributing factors that must be taken into account by the guides when planning your tour. You will receive the exact order of activities once you arrive on site. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. The safety of guests and animals comes first, and for this reason, we reserve the right to change the itinerary and intensity of activities if and when needed. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. Optional activities have very limited availability; we recommend booking them well in advance, often weeks or months before departure, as they may be fully booked by the time of travel.
