Christmas adventure in Swedish Lapland: the itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Umeå
Welcome to Lapland! When you arrive in Umeå, you will be warmly welcomed and taken to your accommodation on an approx. 1.5 h drive. After checking into your cosy hotel room, you can relax or explore the surroundings. In the evening, you will meet your guide and enjoy a delicious dinner. Before going to bed, it's worth gazing up at the night sky to search for the Northern Lights.
Day 2: Meet the huskies
After a balanced breakfast, you make your way to a nearby husky kennel. Here, the mushers will welcome you and tell you more about the traditions and history of dog sledding. You will learn how to harness a husky and prepare a sled or buggy for the tour. You will also gain insights into the life of the huskies throughout the year and the daily tasks involved in caring for them. After a lunch break, you will return to the kennel and take part in a training session with the seniors or younger dogs. You will take them out on a walk through the picturesque forest and spend time grooming them afterwards before ending the day with dinner at the lodge.

After breakfast, you will go on a guided tour through the forest, where you will discover edible plants and tree fungi. You will learn how these plants can be used in traditional folk medicine and what health benefits they have. During the lunch break by the fire you will prepare a traditional Swedish outdoor meal together and marvel at the stunning view over the Ume river valley. In the afternoon, you have time for your own activities: whether you want to rent a fatbike, experience the Christmas mood at the Arctic Zoo in Lycksele, explore the city of Umeå or simply relax at the lodge - the choice is yours (optional activities - not included). In the evening, you will meet up again to watch the famous Northern Lights. Your guide will teach you how to take the best photos of this natural phenomenon. Even without seeing them, it is a magical experience to feel the silence of the Arctic night with hot drinks and cookies.
Day 4: Husky Adventure
Today, it's time for a trip on a dog sled! The huskies are in full training and ready for longer tours through the wilderness. Depending on the snow conditions, you will be travelling on runners with the sled or on wheels with the buggy. Two people share a team, with one driver and one passenger. During a break, hot drinks and cinnamon buns are served around the campfire before you swap places. In the evening, a traditional Swedish Christmas dinner awaits you, which will put you in a festive mood.
Day 5: A day in the life of the Sami
After breakfast and a transfer, you will meet your guide who will introduce you to majestic reindeer. Together you will prepare the animals for a "rajd", where you and the reindeer move together from one place to another. As you walk with them, you will learn how a Sami reindeer herder sees nature and the challenges of life in the Arctic climate. At the campfire, you will prepare a meal in typical Sami style and practise the basic skills of a reindeer herder. Finally, a delicious dinner at the lodge rounds off this informative day.
Day 6: Departure
Enjoy one last breakfast before it's time to say goodbye. You pack your things and are taken back to Umeå, from where you start your journey home. You will leave Lapland with many new memories in your luggage and will certanly remember your unforgettable experiences in the far north for a long time to come.

Additional Information:
The order of tours and activities within this itinerary may vary due to weather conditions and other contributing factors that must be taken into account by the guides when planning your tour. You will receive the exact order of activities once you arrive on site. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. The safety of guests and animals comes first, and for this reason, we reserve the right to change the itinerary and intensity of activities if and when needed. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period.
Note: We recommend booking additional categories and guided activities directly with the tour package (several weeks or months before arrival), as these may be fully booked at the time of travel. Some activities are only available on certain dates and not for the entire season.

31.12.2023 - Traumhaftes Erlebnis
