Aurora Borealis Husky Week: the Itinerary
Day 1: Welcome to Glommersträsk
After arriving in Arvidsjaur or Jörn, you will receive a warm welcome and be taken to the guesthouse in Glommersträsk, which is located just about 5 minutes by car from the husky farm. At dinner, you'll get to know the rest of the group, discuss the schedule for the coming days, and settle into the tranquillity of Lapland. Before going to sleep, take a look up: with a clear sky and the right conditions, you might be able to see the Northern Lights. Please note that catering starts today with dinner.

Day 2: Getting to know the huskies and dog sledding
The day begins with a delicious breakfast before you receive your warm winter clothing for the next few days. Then you finally meet the dogs at the husky kennel and get an introduction to sledding and working with your dog team. You learn how to harness and unharness the dogs and get them ready for tours, followed by your first drive of approx. 20 km. Back at the kennel, you'll take care of the dogs, have a lunch break, and prepare the equipment for the next days of wilderness adventure. In the evening, you can reflect on your experiences, ask questions, and discuss how to further improve your technique over dinner.
Days 3 to 6: Multi-day dogsledding tour
After breakfast for both dogs and humans, the final preparations for your upcoming multi-day tour begin. You pack food and equipment onto the sleds and set off on four intense days immersed in the wilderness of northern Sweden. The route leads through forests, across swamps, lakes, and open fields, with overnight stays in wilderness cabins without electricity or running water, or in tents. The daily stages range from 25 to 60 km, depending on the weather and trail conditions. There's also plenty of work involved: feeding and caring for the dogs, collecting or chopping firewood, fetching water or melting snow, preparing meals, and washing up. Along the way, there will be time for conversationts about dogs, mushing, and life in the wilderness. On day 6, it's time to head back to the husky kennel: here, you'll first take care or the dogs and thank them for the past few days. Then it's your turn to treat yourself to a hot shower. In the evening, you can relax in the sauna or hot tub, followed by a cozy dinner together in the kota.
Day 7: Free Day in Winter Wonderland:
Today is intentionally kept free so that the dogs, and you too, can relax after the tour and set your own pace. Those who prefer an active day can hike to the husky kennel on snowshoes and spend time with the dogs (not included). Besides this, many other winter activities are possible in the area, such as a snowmobile safari or drifting on ice on the test track in Arvidsjaur (not included).
Day 8: Farewell and Departure
After breakfast, it's sadly time to say goodbye. A transfer will take you back to Arvidsjaur or Jörn, from where you'll continue your journey home. You'll surely keep many wonderful memories of your week dogsledding through Sweden. Meals end today with breakfast.
Accommodation:
You will stay for a total of four nights in the cozy guesthouse in Glommersträsk, about a 5-minute drive from the husky kennel. Built in typical Swedish style, it can accommodate up to 8 people. The house has four bedrooms, three with double beds and one with two single beds. There's also a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, a bathroom with shower and toilet, and several storage rooms. The kitchen is equipped with a stove, oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, and kettle - perfect for preparing snacks. A fireplace is available for relaxing hours. There's also free Wi-Fi.
During the multi-day tour, you will spend three nights either in wilderness cabins without electricity or running water, or in tents (both shared accommodations). Depending on the temperatures, a large heated group tent will be used, or you will share a regular tent with another person. Gender-specific tents may not be possible (depending on the group composition).
Requirements:
This trip requires good physical fitness, initiative and a willingness to actively help out under simple conditions. Trail and weather may make it necessary to run alongside and push the sled during ascents or in deep snow. Standing on the sled for several hours is also demanding. Before and after the tours, you are responsible for the care of your dog team, with support from the guide. All camp tasks are done as a team, from collecting or chopping firewood, fetching water or melting snow to cooking and washing up. Prior experience with sled dogs is not required, but consistent preparation of your personal kit for very cold temperatures is essential. The schedule may change due to weather and route conditions. In the small group adjustments to preferences are generally possible. If you have any physical limitations, please contact us. Together we can then determine if and which tour is suitable for you.
The age limit for this tour is 16-65 years. This is due to the sometimes harsh conditions that can prevail on a tour through the wilderness, which are often unsuitable for children, and – in the case of the upper age limit – to the decline in physical fitness, cognitive abilities, and reaction time with age. In individual cases, participation up to the age of 70 is possible by prior arrangement.
Since the dogs have to transport not only the weight of the sled and you, but also optionally a second person in the sled, plenty of food and equipment, there is a weight limit of 100 kg to prevent overloading. If you exceed this weight, please feel free to contact us. Depending on the group composition, there may be options that allow you to participate in a tour. If you fail to inform us of your weight in advance or falsify it, we reserve the right to exclude you from the tour.
Equipment:
Please note that the provided clothing is only available in sizes S-XXL and the shoes in sizes 36-46. If you are outside this range, we will gladly provide you with tips on how to find the right equipment. For the time on the trail during the multi-day husky tour, it is best to bring a small backpack or a soft travel bag, or alternatively, you can get a dry bag on site. The weight should be under 8 kg so the dogs don't have too much to pull. The rest of your luggage will stay in your room at the guesthouse. Besides this, you will need swimwear for use of the sauna and hot tub.
Meals:
Breakfast ingredients will be provided at the guesthouse for you to help yourself. Lunch will depend on the program and may be served in the kota at the husky farm, in a wilderness cabin or tent upon arrival, or as a sandwich during your trip. Dinner will be served at the guesthouse, unless you are out on a tour, and in the kota on day 6.
Additional Information:
The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. Optional activities have very limited availability; we recommend booking them well in advance, often weeks or months before departure, as they may be fully booked by the time of travel.
