Arctic Winter Survival Course: the program
Day 1: Arctic survival
After your arrival at the meeting point, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide. The first day begins with an introductory course in an indoor classroom where basic survival topics and theories are discussed. These include dangers, preparedness, equipment, survival priorities and self-rescue methods. In the afternoon, you will move the activities outside to set up a base camp and perform hands-on exercises related to the morning's concepts.
Day 2: Arctic Bushcraft
On this day, you will delve deeper into the topics you covered on the previous day. You will learn how to make a fire, use an axe and hatchet, build improvised shelters and identify edible and medical food sources. You will also look at making cordage and basic snaring. The focus of the day is on developing practical and useful bushcraft and outdoor survival skills.

Day 3: Arctic navigation
Today the focus is on navigation. You will get to know the basics and advanced techniques of orientation using a compass, GPS, maps and natural methods. Moreover, you will be introduced to the art of traveling with snowshoes and learn what to look out for in extreme conditions in nature, including dangers such as snow, avalanches and water dangers. You will also learn how to improvise your own snowshoes in survival situations.
Day 4: Arctic shelter
The fourth day is dedicated to building shelters, including quincys, igloos, tarp shelters and other improvised constructions. At night, you will have the opportunity to sleep in your own survival shelter that you have built yourself using your newly learned skills.
Day 5: Arctic fishing
On the last day, the introduction to ice fishing is on the program. You will spend the day practicing ice fishing on a local lake. You will learn how to set up a simple camp for ice fishing and the basics of preparing and cleaning fish. After this day, your course program ends with many new experiences and skills.
Accommodation:
Except one night in a self-built shelter (day 4), accommodation is not included on this trip. If you are interested, you can add this through us. Just get in touch with us!
Meals:
Lunch at the camp is included on all days and dinner on day 4. Breakfast on each day and the remaining dinners are not included and must be arranged on your own.
Additional Information:
The order of tours and activities within this itinerary may vary due to weather conditions and other contributing factors that must be taken into account by the guides when planning your tour. You will receive the exact order of activities once you arrive on site. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. The safety of guests and animals comes first, and for this reason, we reserve the right to change the itinerary and intensity of activities if and when needed. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period.
