Active photography week in Lapland: the itinerary
Day 1: Welcome to South Lapland!
After arriving at the Oulu airport or bus/train station, you will meet your guide, who will take you to the Taigalampi cabin in the Syöte hiking area. The transfer takes approx. two hours through the picturesque Finnish countryside. Once you've settled into the cabin, you'll discuss the program together and receive basic information about clothing, accommodation, and safety for the week. You'll end the evening with a delicious dinner before retiring to one of the double rooms with twin or bunk beds. If you wish, you can relax in the sauna or try out a bath in the fresh snow on the shore of the frozen lake.
Catering starts with dinner on day 1 and ends with breakfast on day 6.

Day 2: Snowshoeing for Ice Fishing
Strengthen yourself with breakfast and prepare to explore your surroundings today. You'll set off on a snowshoe tour to a secluded wilderness lake to try your hand at ice fishing. The lake is known for its abundance of small fish, making it the perfect spot for aspiring fishermen (and women). After ice fishing, you'll continue your hike until you reach a campfire spot. There, you'll stop for a picnic and enjoy the pleasant tranquility that surrounds you. The way back continues through peaceful nature, and once you arrive at Taigalampi cabin, you can relax with a warm drink and interesting stories about the region. There is also a small photo exhibition in the dining room. In the evening, it's time for another sauna session, followed by dinner.
Day 3: Skiing through the wilderness
After a hearty breakfast, you'll set off on wide back country skis into the beautiful landscape and rolling hills. While making your way through the snow, you might spot tracks of reindeer, elk, or even the rare lynx, with a bit of luck. Passing the ancient forests and crossing frozen lakes is a truly special experience that immerses you deeper into Lapland's wild nature. A lunch by the open fire at a shelter rounds off the trip. Afterwards, you'll return to the cabin, where a soothing dinner and the sauna await you. If the sky is clear, you should take a few steps away from the cabin and look up: You might spot the Northern Lights.
Day 4: Wildlife Watching in Oulanka National Park
Today, you'll start the day early and, after breakfast, prepare a picnic from the breakfast table before being taken on a two-hour ride to the wildlife hide in Oulanka National Park. Here, you can take your time observing and photographing the area's wild inhabitants. You might encounter a variety of small birds or majestic eagles, among others. After an exciting day, you'll be transferred back to Taigalampi cabin, where you can warm up in the sauna and dinner will be served later on.
Day 5: Husky tour in snowy winterland
After breakfast, you'll travel to a husky farm near the village of Taivalkoski and spend some hours with the dogs. You'll first receive a safety briefing and a driving lesson, then you'll step on the sled for a tour through snow-covered wilderness. A dog sled ride is a truly unique experience! The huskies have so much energy and will skilfully pull you through the stunning surroundings. A picnic along the way will allow you to recharge your batteries. In the evening, you can use the sauna and enjoy dinner as always. You might even have the chance to photograph the breathtaking Northern Lights!
Day 6: Goodbye, Lapland!
On your last day in the far north, you'll enjoy breakfast at the cabin before saying goodbye to Lapland. A transfer will take you back to the airport or bus/train station in Oulu, where your journey home begins. With many new memories, impressive experinces, and stunning photos in your luggage.
Accommodation:
You will stay in Taigalampi cabin, which is located in the Syöte hiking area. The cabin has a well-equipped kitchen and a large living room for eating and socialising. It also has its own sauna and a terrace for cooling off. In addition to three toilets and a utility room with washing machine, drying cabinet and drying machine, there are 8 bedrooms in the house. Two of them are 3-room-apartments with their own toilets and showers. You will also find a two-bedroom separate compartment. Enjoy your time in this authentic cabin and relax by the fireplace. With floor heating, internet connection and TV, you should want for northing during your time in the north. The Syöte trail network is just 100 meters from the cabin. Please note that all rooms (incl. bathrooms) are shared except for the bedrooms (double/twin rooms).
You can also stay for one night at the wildlife hide for great photo opportunities in the early morning. Just contact us if you're interested!
For a fee, you can rent winter clothing and equipment suitable for polar temperatures. Please let us know if you want to rent something.
All participants should have their own insurance for skiing and outdoor activities in Finland and in Arctic weather conditions.
Additional Information:
The order of tours and activities within this itinerary may vary due to weather conditions and other contributing factors that must be taken into account by the guides when planning your tour. You will receive the exact order of activities once you arrive on site. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. The safety of guests and animals comes first, and for this reason, we reserve the right to change the itinerary and intensity of activities if and when needed. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period.
