This tour gives you the most authentic experience possible as absolutely no snowmobiles are used, ensuring that the only sound to break the silence is that of your sled and your dogs' paws crunching across the frozen ground. During this unforgettable week, you will lead your own team of huskies across the stunning landscapes in four routes of 15km to 35km. Husky sledding in Finland is sure to be one experience you will want to relive over and over again!
Day 1: Arrival and Personal Introduction
After you have arrived at Kajaani airport or train station, a transfer of approximately one hour will take you to your base for this exciting week of husky safaris in Finland. Once you have settled in, you can look forward to a delicious home cooked dinner. Afterwards, your guides will let you know what to expect for the week ahead. At night, don't forget to take a look at the sky. Maybe the Northern Lights will show up there!

Day 2-5: Exhilarating Husky Sledding Tours
After an introduction to driving a dog sled, you will start your first husky tour through the beautiful landscape that is unique in both its originality and diversity. In the following days, you will undertake 3 more husky safaris with your guide, who will lead you through the vastness of the country. Experience the most diverse corners of the Paljakka Nature Reserve, one of the last primeval forests in Europe. The tours run in a star shape into the snow-covered wilderness, where the endless beauty of nature and the feeling of freedom on your dog sled will give you unforgettable moments every day. Try snowshoe hiking and spend an afternoon at the lake in a waterfront sauna, do the same as the Finns and then go for an ice bath, catch your fish ice fishing for an evening barbecue around the campfire. The meals are prepared for you according to traditional Finnish cuisine. During the day tours, your food will be prepared in a wilderness hut or outdoors, giving you an authentic experience of life in the far north. Mainly natural foods are used.
Husky safaris into the surrounding wilderness are mostly scheduled for the morning. In the afternoon there is the possibility for guided and non-guided skiing or snowshoeing. Snowshoes, pedal sledges, forest skis, cross-country skis (classic and skating) and toboggans are available for this purpose.
Day 6: Snowshoe hike to lake
On the sixth day, there will be a beautiful snowshoe hike to Lake Iso Särkijärvi. The lunch will be a barbecue around an open campfire and afterwards you have the possibility to enjoy a typical Finnish sauna on the lake (for an extra charge). A refreshing ice bath is also possible, as well as ice fishing if the conditions allow it. On this day you will once again enjoy the breathtaking nature to the fullest.
Day 7: Departure
After a hearty breakfast, it's time to say goodbye to your faithful four-legged companions and head back to the airport or train station in Kajaani for your onward journey. Leave Finland with a lot of new experiences to share with your loved ones and remember forever.
Christmas 2024:
Please note that the Christmas program is slightly different: instead of a husky safari, on Christmas Day you will go on an excursion to an old spruce forest, which is one of the last primeval forests in Europe. There you will go on a snowshoe hike and then enjoy your lunch in a wilderness hut. After that you drive the short distance back to the lodge by car. In the evening, you can look forward to a traditional Finnish Christmas dinner.
Accommodation:
Nature Point Palijakka is a small, traditional Finnish guesthouse. It is situated on the edge of the stunning Paljakka nature reserve in the heart of the Lappish wilderness. Accommodation is in comfortable double rooms (some have space for additional beds so that families can share) and all have private bathroom facilities, running water, and electricity. A cosy natural stone fireplace and traditional wooden furnishings mean that you can have an authentic Lappish experience while still enjoying all the creature comforts of home. A sauna is available. Single rooms are available at an extra charge – just let us know. Activities at the resort are by the lake, located in beautiful Iso Sarkijarvi, 3.5 km from the main house.
Catering:
In addition to traditional Finnish cuisine, you will enjoy a very hearty and healthy diet that is prepared using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. This will provide you with a balanced and nutritious diet for the duration of your stay and give you the strength and energy you will need to make the most of this incredible experience! During the day, lunches will be prepared and served over an open fire (weather permitting), or in authentic wilderness huts. Your 3-course evening meal will be served to you back at the lodge.
Additional Information:
The order of tours and activities within this itinerary may vary due to weather conditions and other contributing factors that must be taken into account by the guides when planning your tour. You will receive the exact order of activities once you arrive on site. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. The safety of guests and animals comes first, and for this reason, we reserve the right to change the itinerary and intensity of activities if and when needed. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. The service providers and tour providers always perform their services in compliance with and in accordance with the official requirements and requirements applicable at the time of stay.
