This very special dog sled journey takes you through the vast wilderness of the Scandinavian landscape. Enjoy five days of Swedish dog sledding adventures in a small group, with a maximum of four people per tour. The owner of the husky kennel, Petter Karlsson, has already won the famous Finnmarksløpet - Europe's longest dog sled race - four times and is a two-time world champion. With his experienced guides, you can now also immerse yourself in the world of huskies.

Dog Sledding Tour Scandinavia: Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival
After your arrival in Slussfors, you will be picked up from the bus stop and taken to the comfortable guesthouse of the husky camp. You will have dinner together with your guide and talk about the exciting itinerary for the upcoming tour. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to recharge your batteries for the days ahead in the sauna. In order to give you the best possible experience, the group has been limited to a maximum of four people. Depending on the time of arrival, the local services start with lunch or dinner on the first day and end with breakfast on the last day.

Day 2: Off into the wilderness
You will start each morning with a hearty breakfast, enjoyed with the rest of your tour group. With assistance from your guide, you will take care of your own dogs and get them ready to start your adventures. You will learn how to drive your very own team of Alaskan huskies. On the first day of the tour, your husky team will pull you through a breathtakingly beautiful landscape. It is important that you are fit enough to be able to control the sled with your dogs and to jump off and push it on climbs to help them. In the afternoon, you will finally arrive at the first wilderness cabin. Each evening will follow a similar pattern, you will arrive at a new wilderness cabin, where you will care for and feed your hard-working furry friends. Then you will enjoy a traditional Swedish meal with your tour group.


Day 3: Experience the solitude of Sweden
On day three, you will travel through magical mountain landscapes. Along the trail, you will see the wonders of the arctic nature, including trees covered by so much snow that they look more like snow sculptures than trees. This part of Lapland is rarely seen by humans and you can easily get the feeling that you have escaped to Narnia or another fairy tale world. Together with your dogs, you work as a team and support your four-legged friends by jumping off, running along and pushing the sled wherever you can! This is also a good method to stay warm. In the afternoon, you will arrive at the next cosy wilderness cabin where you will spend the night. You can also warm up in the wilderness sauna there.

Day 4: Last tour with the sled dogs
The more time you spend together with the dogs, the better you will get to know them and their different personalities. Dog sledding tours are the perfect opportunity to form a bond with these amazing creatures. Mother nature will continue to astound you with amazing views and sights as you travel. On your last day on the sled, you will mush your dog team through an ancient spruce forest on the way back home to your husky camp in Slussfors.

Day 5: Departure
On your last morning, enjoy a hearty breakfast before saying goodbye to your dogs. Now it is also time to say goodbye to your friends in the tour group, before you start your journey home. In the luggage: Countless new impressions of this incredible country.

Requirements for the participants:
This sled dog trip is an active holiday and requires a good level of fitness and teamwork. Essential activities such as fetching water, chopping wood, cooking, and the care of dogs are organised and carried out together as a team. During the sled rides, you will be required to jump off the sled and help the dogs by pushing the sled if the snow is deep or the slope is steep. Therefore you should be able to run several meters through deep snow or on uphill parts. It is mandatory to help the dogs whenever you can! All travellers must be able to speak a basic level of English. The age limit is min. 18 and max. 68 years.

Accommodation
The guesthouse where you will stay the night on the day of arrival and the last night before departure, has all facilities with electricity, water, and sauna. You should bring swimwear to use the sauna. The wilderness cabins are shared accommodation and have no electricity and no running water, but are comfortably heated with a woodburning stove. Fresh drinking water is taken from a local lake or stream.

You can reach Slussfors by bus from Umeå, where you can fly to or take the night train from Stockholm.
