Whether you explore the landscape on a dog sled, hike on snowshoes or speed through the area on a snowmobile - you won't get bored on this trip!
Day 1: Arrival
You will be picked up at the airport, train station or a hotel in Kajaani in the afternoon and drive just under an hour to your accommodation, where your time out really begins. Settle into your comfortable room or cozy apartment and relax at the end of the day before setting off on your first adventure tomorrow. The evening is at your leisure, you can go on your first exploration tour or relax in the obligatory sauna.

Day 2: Dog sledding under the stars of Finland
Your day begins quite relaxed today. Explore the area on snowshoes or cross-country skis or relax with a good book before your first adventure in the Finnish wilderness this evening. Slip into your cozy thermal clothing and switch on your headlamp to light up the journey through the snowy landscape.
Learn the art of dog sledding under the guidance of an experienced musher and let yourself be infected by the excitement of the eager huskies as you steer the team on an approx. 12 km long route through the forests and over frozen lakes. You share a sled in pairs and take turns driving. Weather permitting, you can experience a starry night sky during this approximately three-hour excursion and, with a bit of luck, catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.
Day 3: Aurora snowmobile safari
Today is the day for all those who love speed. The morning is again at your leisure before you start the engines in the late afternoon and speed through the untouched wilderness. Beforehand, you will be given driving instructions and information about the snowmobiles. Even for people who already have some experience, driving in the twilight until absolute darkness is an exciting experience! You will be using new touring snowmobiles - thanks to new technology, they are safer and more environmentally friendly than older models. On the way back, take a break and enjoy hot drinks and snacks. With a bit of luck, you will be able to admire the fantastic natural spectacle of the Aurora Borealis. You will travel in pairs on a snowmobile and take turns driving. The entire excursion takes around two and a half hours and you will cover a distance of around 20 km, depending on the snow and weather conditions.
Day 4: Northern Lights snowshoe hike
Get a good night's sleep and then enjoy a extended breakfast buffet (only at the hotel) before you start the day. In the late afternoon, set off on a snowshoe hike in search of the dancing Northern Lights. This snowshoe adventure is the perfect way to explore the winter landscape in an authentic way! You'll climb the small mountains in the area while enjoying the quiet, snow-covered forest and peaceful nature. Once you reach the top, you have a wonderful view of the lights shining from the village at the foot of the mountain. After the hike, enjoy hot drinks and snacks by the open fire while listening to the guide's stories about nature. In total, you will be on the trail for around 2 hours and have another chance to experience the magical Northern Lights up close!
Day 5: Departure
All good things come to an end. After a final breakfast, you will unfortunately have to pack your bags and a transfer will take you back to the train station, airport or a hotel in Kajaani, from where you will continue your journey - hopefully with many wonderful memories of this special short winter vacation!
Accommodation:
The hotel has three restaurants and a cozy little café in the lobby. There are two saunas, one in the hotel itself (included) and one down by the lake with a fantastic view over the slopes that run through the winter landscape and the possibility to go ice bathing (extra charge).
The double rooms are approx. 25 m² in size, have their own bathroom, a TV and plenty of storage space. If required, up to two children can be accommodated on a sofa bed. Bathrobes and towels are not included, but can be booked in advance or you can bring your own.
The apartments all have a small, fully equipped kitchen, private saunas and showers, bathrooms, fireplaces, drying cupboards, TV and free Wi-Fi. In addition, many activities are included, such as the use of kick sledges, sledges for the tobogganing hill and a campfire site with firewood. When you stay in an apartment the breakfast is not included. Half board can be booked in advance.
Note:
To drive a snowmobile yourself, you must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver's license. Children ride with an adult.
The husky guide decides whether a child is big enough to drive a dog sled themselves. Otherwise, children ride in an adult's sled.
Please note that you will only receive the clothing and equipment provided on site for the planned activities. Please bring your own winter clothing for the rest of the time.
Additional Information:
The order of tours and activities within this itinerary may vary due to weather conditions and other contributing factors that must be taken into account by the guides when planning your tour. You will receive the exact order of activities once you arrive on site. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. The safety of guests and animals comes first, and for this reason, we reserve the right to change the itinerary and intensity of activities if and when needed. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. The service providers and tour providers always perform their services in compliance with and in accordance with the official requirements and requirements applicable at the time of stay.
