Experience the clearest starry skies at night and, with a bit of luck, the dancing northern lights above your head. A truly unique winter adventure!
Day 1: Arrival and first dinner
The tour begins with your first dinner at the lodge at around 19:00. The guide will give you some initial information about the adventures of the coming days and you can ask any questions you may have. End the evening together with your travel group and relax before your adventure really begins the next day!
Day 2: Preparation for your husky expedition
After a hearty breakfast, you will receive your personal equipment. Snowsuits, boots and other important equipment will be provided. You will learn the basics of caring for your husky team and driving a dog sled. This day is crucial to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey. Day 3 - 9: Arctic Sea experience: on the runners of your husky sled through Lapland's wilderness
With your “own” team of approx. 6 dogs, you and your guide set the compass northwest and reach the mountain plateau on the same day - a fascinating, barren and windswept landscape. Enjoy the silence and endless expanse of Lapland. Over the next few days you will pass through the Stabbursdalen valley. Here you will have the opportunity to try out traditional ice fishing and admire the incomparable beauty of the Arctic sea. You will get further and further off the beaten track and enjoy the freedom on skids to the full. Work together with your dogs and your travel group and admire the endless white in all directions! Depending on the weather, on day 8 or 9 you will reach the secluded “Stenbukt” hut, from where you can enjoy a unique view of the Arctic Ocean. From there you can go on short hikes on snowshoes, go ice fishing or simply relax by the fireplace. A truly unique experience!
Day 10: Return to the lodge
On this day you return to the road and drive back to the Husky Lodge in Karasjok. On your return, you can enjoy a delicious dinner in a warm and cozy atmosphere. A wood-heated sauna and an outdoor hot tub are waiting for you on request. You might even be lucky enough to see the Northern Lights dancing above you!
Day 11: Departure
The program ends with a hearty breakfast. Take the opportunity to look back on the past few days and reflect on the breathtaking experiences and impressions. If you wish, you can extend your stay for a few more days and take part in further activities or simply relax a little and reflect on the experiences of the past few days. In any case, you will start your return journey with incomparable memories.
Accommodation:
You will spend the first and last two nights at the lodge, in between you will stay in a tent and possibly in a wilderness hut. The remote fishing hut “Stenbukt” (usually the last night before returning to the lodge) on the Arctic Ocean offers a cozy and secluded atmosphere without neighbors. From there you can go on smaller excursions such as snowshoeing and ice fishing on your own. Please note that you will not have electricity or running water during the wilderness overnight stays and that the accommodation is shared.
Requirements for trip participants:
This sled dog trip is an active vacation and requires not only a very good level of fitness but also teamwork. Activities such as fetching water, chopping wood, cooking if necessary, looking after the dogs etc. are organized and carried out together as a team.
How to get there:
Due to the remote location of this truly ‘off the beaten track’ tour, there are a variety of transport options depending on your preferred arrival airport, details of which are listed below.
Via Lakselv Airport, Norway
Upon your arrival at Lakselv airport, a bus journey of approximately one hour will take you to your base in Karasjok. Alternatively, should you prefer a private transfer, you can arrange a taxi for your trip between the airport and Karasjok.
Via Alta Airport, Norway
Upon your arrival at Alta airport, a bus journey of approximately 4 hours will take you to your base in Karasjok. Alternatively, should you prefer a private transfer, you can arrange a taxi for your trip between the airport and Karasjok, and this will take roughly 2.5 hours.
Via Ivalo Aiport, Finland
Upon your arrival at Ivalo airport, you can take a taxi to Ivalo bus station and catch a daily bus that will take approximately 2.5 hours to reach your base in Karasjok. The journey from Ivalo airport to the bus terminal is approximately 7km. Alternatively, should you prefer a private transfer, you can arrange a taxi for your trip between the airport and Karasjok, and this will take roughly 2h.
Whichever location you are travelling from, our experienced advisors will work with you to ensure that your tour connections run as smoothly as possible.
Travel costs:
As this trip is a private tour, the costs depend on the number of participants. If you book this trip, you will stay among yourselves for the booked date and only travel with the people you have booked the trip with. The price quoted is for a booking of four people. If there are only two or three of you, the price will be higher.
Different cancellation conditions: For this destination, 100% cancellation fees apply after confirmed booking. For this reason, we recommend that clients take out insurance in this case. If the participant does not wish to (or cannot) take part in what is booked - no refund is granted. Additionally, further costs may arise if cancellation occurs before the final payment is made.
Additional Information:
The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. The service providers and tour providers always perform their services in compliance with and in accordance with the official requirements and requirements applicable at the time of stay. For this reason, corona-related reasonable usage rules or restrictions may arise when using said services. Please note these official requirements (Google Translate). Show all dates
