Arctic Animals and Activities

This six-day trip to Lapland takes you into Finland’s Arctic winter, near the Arctic Circle. If you’d like, you can arrange your own stay in Rovaniemi beforehand and visit Santa Claus Village. The itinerary on site gives you time to explore and relax, or to add even more activities. Winter clothing will be provided for your entire stay, so you’ll be well-equipped to face the cold. The itinerary includes a dog sled ride on the lake, a diverse winter activity park featuring reindeer and tobogganing, and a visit to the Ranua Wildlife Park. Spending a night in a glass igloo offers beautiful views of the starry sky on clear nights, and with a little luck, you might even see the Northern Lights.

Arctic Animals and Activities: The Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and First Dinner
Upon arrival in Rovaniemi, you will be picked up and driven just over an hour to your accommodations. After checking in, you’ll have time to settle in before your first dinner at the guesthouse restaurant marks the start of your Lapland adventure. You’ll spend the night in a double room at the guesthouse.

Day 2: Ranua Wildlife Park
The day begins leisurely with breakfast at the guesthouse restaurant, after which you’ll be provided with winter clothing for the duration of your stay. You’ll then drive to the nearby Ranua Wildlife Park, where you can observe numerous Arctic animals. While there, you can listen to presentations by the animal caretakers; at lunchtime, you’ll have the opportunity to eat at the park’s restaurants. In the evening, dinner will be served at the guesthouse restaurant.

Day 3: Activity Park with Reindeer, Sledding, and Sauna
The morning begins with breakfast at the guesthouse restaurant, after which you’ll have time to relax or go on your own little adventures. In the afternoon, you’ll head to the activity park, where you can enjoy various winter experiences, including a reindeer walk, ice skating, kick sledding, and tobogganing. The visit also includes a campfire dinner in a Lappish hut or teepee, as well as a sauna and ice bath. For dinner, you’ll return to the guesthouse restaurant.

Day 4: Explore the Surroundings and Relax
In the morning, breakfast awaits you again at the guesthouse; afterward, you can explore the surrounding area on your own. If you’d like, you can also reserve a private sauna session or book additional activities (see “Extras”). In the evening, dinner is served at the guesthouse restaurant.

Day 5: Dog Sled Ride and Night in the Glass Igloo
After breakfast, a dog sled ride is on the agenda, starting right in front of the glass igloos on the lake. Two people share a sled—one drives and one rides as a passenger—and you can take turns driving along the way; the route is approximately ten kilometers long. Today, you’ll check out of your double room and spend the night in a glass igloo right on the lake. The afternoon is yours to enjoy as you wish; you can go for a walk, take photos, and relax in the glass igloo. To round off the day, you’ll dine at the guesthouse restaurant before settling in for your final night’s stay in.

Day 6: Departure after breakfast
After your final breakfast, you’ll check out and be taken to the airport by shuttle. The tour ends after breakfast.

Accommodations:
You’ll stay at a guesthouse in the quiet village of Ranua, surrounded by forests and Arctic nature. For most nights, you’ll be accommodated in a simple double room at the guesthouse. Additionally, one night in a glass igloo by the lake is included; the igloo has a basic eco-toilet, but you can use the flush toilet and shower at the guesthouse. Other accommodation options include Aurora Lake Lodges, featuring modern Nordic design, sleeping arrangements for up to 6 people, a kitchenette, a private bathroom, and lake views. A sauna is available on-site.

Notes:
The tour begins with dinner on the day of arrival. Transfers from the airports in Oulu, Kemi, or Kuusamo are also available for an additional fee. Winter clothing is provided for the entire stay, ensuring you’re properly equipped for the conditions near the Arctic Circle. During dog sledding, two people share a sled and take turns driving. The visit to the activity park combines several activities into one excursion; you choose how to spend your time there. The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and may be visible on clear nights, but there is no guarantee. The tour ends after breakfast on the day of departure. You can extend or shorten your stay, subject to availability, additional activities can be booked.
