Adventure week on a dog sled: The itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
You will be met directly at the airport or train station in Östersund and drive together to the husky farm. Once here, you can take a look at the new surroundings and settle into the cozy guesthouse. You will then enjoy a delicious and sumptuous dinner, which will introduce you to Swedish cuisine. After dinner, you will have time to relax and enjoy the anticipation of the adventures to come.

Day 2: First encounter with the huskies
After enjoying a hearty breakfast, you’ll meet the dogs for the first time. Even though it may seem impossible at this stage to tell the dogs apart, by the end of the week you’ll certainly know each one by name! You will receive a detailed briefing on the equipment and sledding techniques before gaining your first hands-on experience through some initial exercises. This day will help you build trust with the animals, gain confidence and heighten your anticipation for the upcoming tours.
Day 3 - 7: The World of Huskies in Sweden
The next few days will be filled with dog sledding and plenty of time spent with the huskies. In total, you will go on three guided sledding tours, starting with an initial trip of around 10 km. Building on this, the tours will increase in length and difficulty, with stages of up to 25 km. The trips will be adapted to the weather and snow conditions. The longer you are out and about, the more you will get a feel for the dynamics of a dog team and get to know your four-legged companions better and better. During the tours, you will be able to enjoy the breathtaking landscape of the surrounding area and experience the silence of nature, interrupted only by the sound of paws and sledge runners on the snow. Even outside of the tours, you’ll spend plenty of time with the dogs, helping out with feeding and caring for the pack, for example. In the evenings, you’ll reflect on the day’s experiences and relax over a delicious dinner.
As an added highlight, you’ll go on a snowshoe hike up to Ansättenfjäll one day – accompanied by a pack of huskies. There, you’ll be treated to a stunning panoramic view, which you can really take in whilst enjoying a traditional fika (coffee break) by the fire.
In addition to the planned excursions, you’ll also have some free time in between, which you can spend, for example, on a cross-country skiing trip of your own. The trails start right outside the farm. Optionally, you can also book a winter hike with the Icelandic Horses for an additional fee. If you’d prefer to take it a bit easier, you can sit back with a good book or enjoy the peaceful natural surroundings on a short walk.
Your days at the husky farm will conclude with a cosy evening together on the farm, where you can sit down and reflect on the wonderful experiences of the past week.
Day 8: Departure
Unfortunately, it's time to say goodbye again today after breakfast. You will be taken back to the airport or train station in Östersund on time and we hope you have had a unique and unforgettable week with the huskies that you will remember for a long time to come. During the return journey you can review the experiences of the past few days and look forward to the next adventure trip! We wish you a safe journey home and hope to welcome you back on a husky tour soon!
Accommodation:
The accommodation during your stay is a cozy guest house on the Taikuri husky farm, which offers you a comfortable and relaxed environment. The rooms are friendly and traditionally furnished and offer enough space for a good night's sleep. The common rooms invite you to linger and socialize with other guests. Enjoy Swedish hospitality in this unique environment surrounded by the beauty of nature.
The guest house is approx. 90 m² in size and has a dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, wood-burning stove, fully equipped kitchen, sofa bed, two bathrooms (one with shower, one with washing machine), three bedrooms (two with two single beds in each and one with a single bed that can be extended to a double bed).
Requirements:
Please note that this trip is suitable for people aged 14 and over and requires a good level of physical fitness, stamina, balance and coordination. Team spirit is essential, as are adaptability and flexibility. You should be able to remain calm even in challenging situations and enjoy spending time with dogs.
The maximum weigh is 90 kg, so that it's - together with the winter clothing and other equipment - not too heavy for the dogs. The heavier you are, the more you will need to help the dogs (e.g. in deep snow or on uphill sections) by pushing the sled.
Please bring your own winter clothing for this trip. Overalls in standard sizes can be rented on site for a cleaning fee.
Meals:
Full board on this trip includes breakfast, a Swedish fika (coffee break), freshly cooked dinner and on day 7 a farewell dinner.
Additional Information:
The order of tours and activities within this itinerary may vary due to weather conditions and other contributing factors that must be taken into account by the guides when planning your tour. You will receive the exact order of activities once you arrive on site. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. The safety of guests and animals comes first, and for this reason, we reserve the right to change the itinerary and intensity of activities if and when needed. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. Optional activities have very limited availability; we recommend booking them well in advance, often weeks or months before departure, as they may be fully booked by the time of travel.
