Adventure week on a dog sled: The itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
You will be met directly at the airport or train station in Östersund and drive together to the husky farm. Once here, you can take a look at the new surroundings and settle into the cozy guesthouse. During a short briefing, you will discuss the days ahead and the planned activities. You will then enjoy a delicious and sumptuous dinner, which will introduce you to Swedish cuisine. After dinner, you will have time to relax and enjoy the anticipation of the adventures to come.
Day 2: First encounter with the huskies
After you have eaten a sumptuous breakfast, you will get to know the dogs for the first time. Even though it may seem impossible to tell the dogs apart at this stage, by the end of the week you will certainly know each dog by name! You will then be given a detailed introduction to the equipment and the sledding technique before gaining your first experience with dry runs for the start. After a short refreshment break, you will start the practical exercises behind the snowmobile, where you will train your balance and learn how to handle the sled safely through driving exercises. Each day ends with feeding and caring for the dogs together, which you can take part in for the first time that evening. These first experiences will help you to build up trust in the animals and increase your anticipation of the upcoming tours.

Day 3: First sled dog tour
In the morning, immediately after breakfast, you will start preparing for the first sled dog tour and find out which dogs will form a team with you this week. On the tour, you will be able to apply the knowledge you learned the day before and learn how to empathize with the dynamics of a sled dog team. During the tour, you will be able to enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the surrounding area and experience the silence of nature, interrupted only by the sound of the dogs' paws on the snow. After the trip, you will have developed a better understanding of the contribution you need to make and the responsibility you need to take on to form a dynamic team with the dogs. In the evening, review the day's experiences and relax over a delicious dinner after you have looked after all the dogs.
Day 4: Longer husky tour through the wilderness
After getting to know your husky team the day before, you set off on your first longer tour today. Depending on the weather conditions, this will take you up into the Ansättenfjäll or through the rustic forests with their snow-covered trails around Bakvattnet. During the tour, you can experience the feeling of freedom as the huskies pull you through the untouched wilderness. Along the way, you will stop at picturesque spots to admire the beauty of the landscape and take photos. At the end of the day, you return tired but happy to the husky farm, where a tasty dinner awaits you.
Day 5: Relaxation day and leisure activities
Today is a rest day for the dogs and a day of relaxation and well-being for you. This day is at your own disposal and it is up to you whether you go exploring on your own with snowshoes or make yourself comfortable with a book in your vacation home. Your hosts will be happy to provide you with advice and tips on the best places for excursions. In the evening, you can prepare your meal together in a rustic atmosphere. This evening offers the perfect opportunity to share the experiences of the last few days and prepare for the adventure ahead.
Day 6-7: Two-day dog sled tour with overnight stay in a wilderness cabin
Today is a very special day! Now that you have become much more confident in handling the sled and have built up trust in your dogs, you will embark on the biggest adventure of the week, which you have certainly been looking forward to: a two-day wilderness tour with an overnight stay in a hut in the mountains. Up here you can enjoy untouched nature away from civilization. At the hut, it's just you and the dogs, which of course means no electricity and no running water. After looking after the dogs together, you make yourself comfortable in the rustic mountain hut in the evening, prepare your meal over the fire in the traditional way and enjoy the close proximity to the dogs in this remote environment. The dogs will be waiting for you the next morning. After first looking after the dogs and then fortifying yourself with a sumptuous breakfast, you set off on your last tour through the beautiful Ansättenfjäll until you finally make your way back to the husky farm. After an eventful day, you have the opportunity to relax in a Swedish “bastu” (sauna) in the afternoon. Afterwards, a particularly delicious and hearty dinner in traditional Swedish style awaits you.
Day 8: Departure
Unfortunately, it's time to say goodbye again today. You will be taken back to the airport or train station in Östersund on time and we hope that you have had a unique and unforgettable time with the huskies that you will remember for a long time to come. During the return journey you can review the experiences of the past few days and look forward to the next adventure trip! We wish you a safe journey home and hope to welcome you back on a husky tour soon!
Accommodation:
The accommodation during your stay is a cozy guest house on the Taikuri husky farm, which offers you a comfortable and relaxed environment. The rooms are friendly and traditionally furnished and offer enough space for a good night's sleep. The common rooms invite you to linger and socialize with other guests. Enjoy Swedish hospitality in this unique environment surrounded by the beauty of nature.
The vacation home is approx. 90 m² in size and has a dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, wood-burning stove, fully equipped kitchen, sofa bed, two bathrooms (one with shower, one with washing machine), three bedrooms (one with two single beds, two with pull-out single beds), WLAN.
During the overnight stay in the wilderness, you sleep in a rustic mountain cabin without electricity or running water. This is a shared accommodation where separate bedrooms are not possible. Teamwork is required here! Help your guide to look after the dogs, make a fire to warm the hut and prepare dinner.
Requirements:
Please note that this trip is suitable for people aged 14 and over and requires a good level of physical fitness, stamina, balance and coordination. You should weigh a maximum of 90 kg so that the weight, together with the winter clothing and other equipment, is not too heavy for the dogs.
Please bring your own winter clothing for this trip. Overalls in standard sizes can be rented on site for a cleaning fee of €20 and gloves for a fee of €5.
Additional Information:
The order of tours and activities within this itinerary may vary due to weather conditions and other contributing factors that must be taken into account by the guides when planning your tour. You will receive the exact order of activities once you arrive on site. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. The safety of guests and animals comes first, and for this reason, we reserve the right to change the itinerary and intensity of activities if and when needed. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. The service providers and tour providers always perform their services in compliance with and in accordance with the official requirements and requirements applicable at the time of stay. For this reason, corona-related reasonable usage rules or restrictions may arise when using said services. Please note these official requirements (Google Translate). Show all dates
