Penguin safari in South Georgia and Antarctica: the itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Ushuaia
Your exciting journey begins in Ushuaia, a small but lively port city at the southern tip of South America. Here you have the opportunity to explore the impressive nature of Patagonia. Stroll through the streets of the city, enjoy handmade chocolate in one of the cozy cafés or take a hike in the surrounding mountains. Wind down at the end of the day and prepare for the adventure ahead.
Day 2: Embarkation
Embarkation on your ship takes place in the late afternoon, where an atmosphere of anticipation spreads. You leave Ushuaia and set course for the historic Beagle Channel, which crosses the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. As you sail through the gentle waves, you can enjoy the impressive coastal scenery and look forward to the adventures to come in Antarctica.

Day 3 to 6: At sea
Numerous activities await you in the following days to make your time at sea exciting. Take part in informative presentations by the expedition team and learn to identify various seabirds circling around the ship. You will receive important information about safety precautions for the Zodiac trips and landing on the coasts. When conditions are favorable, the Shag Rocks, a group of rocky pinnacles, mark the first indication that you are approaching South Georgia. Have your binoculars ready to observe the birds nesting there and keep an eye on the surface of the water from time to time - a few whales may pass by.
Day 7 to 9: South Georgia
After your arrival in South Georgia, the first shore excursion will be organized. Depending on the weather conditions, various landing sites will be visited, offering you encounters with incomparable wildlife. The beaches are awash with king penguins and seals and you will soon realize that you are in a birdwatcher's paradise, as you can observe various seabirds, albatrosses and petrels in abundance. Visit historic whaling stations and learn more about the past of this fascinating region. Particularly noteworthy is the visit to Grytviken, where the grave of Sir Ernest Shackleton, one of the most famous Antarctic explorers, is located.
Day 10 and 11: At sea
Say goodbye to the king penguins as you set course for your next destination - Antarctica. During your days at sea, your expedition team will prepare you for the upcoming adventure in Antarctica with exciting presentations and workshops and give you valuable tips on animal observation and the landscapes that await you.
Day 12 to 15: Antarctic Peninsula
When you arrive on the Antarctic Peninsula, you will be overwhelmed by the majestic beauty of the landscape. You will experience the untouched nature while taking part in various excursions, be it Zodiac cruises, visits to historical sites or observations of penguin colonies. Chinstrap, Adélie and gentoo penguins can be found here. Also look out for Weddell, fur, crabeater and leopard seals as you are guided through days of discovery by an experienced expedition team. Perhaps treat yourself to a special experience too: take part in an optional kayak tour (extra cost) or dare to take a dip into the cold waters for a Polar Plunge!
Day 16 and 17: Crossing the Drake Passage
After more than two weeks full of unique animal encounters and breathtaking landscapes, your return journey begins. Enjoy your time on deck while you look out for seabirds and whales, take part in presentations by your expedition team or simply relax and reflect on your unforgettable experiences.
Day 18: Disembarkation in Ushuaia
You will arrive back in Ushuaia in the morning, where you have the option of continuing your adventures locally or taking your return flight. It will certainly not be easy to say goodbye to the expedition and the impressive natural surroundings, but you will take many priceless memories home with you.
