Day 2: Sailing among the glaciers
Enjoy the impressive landscape as we navigate the glacier-lined coast of Volquart Boons. This region offers a spectacular backdrop of ice-covered mountains and shimmering glacier fronts rising majestically to the sky. Here you have the opportunity to participate in an exciting Zodiac tour that takes you along one of the imposing glacier fronts. Your first activity of the day will take place near Månegletcher or Vikingebugt, where you can experience the untouched beauty of nature up close. The fresh, clear air and the soft crackling of the ice create a unique atmosphere that will captivate you.
Day 3: Inuit neighborhood of yesteryear
We sail along the impressive east coast of Milne Land, where a multitude of enormous, majestic icebergs rise, resembling silent guardians of the Arctic. These massive natural formations provide a breathtaking panorama that impressively showcases the power and beauty of nature. If conditions permit and we can land in Charcot Havn, an exciting walk to Charcot Glacier awaits us. This excursion offers the opportunity to experience the fascinating world of ice up close and admire the impressive formations of the glacier. After this remarkable experience, we continue our journey and sail across Bjørneør towards Øfjord. The passage through these waters promises further spectacular views and the opportunity to enjoy the pristine wilderness of the region in all its glory.
Day 4-7: Fjord flanked by mountains
Today, a visit to the eastern entrance of one of the most impressive fjords in the world is on the agenda: The Ø Fjord stretches for almost 40 nautical miles (74 km, 46 miles) and is flanked by majestic mountains rising up to 2,000 meters in height. In the deep waters that reach up to 1,000 meters, imposing icebergs float. Our destination is the landing in Jyttehavn, where we will take a hike through the tundra in a fascinating environment. The opportunity to sail into the Harefjord, the Rypefjord, and the Rödefjord opens up further fascinating perspectives. On C. Hoffmanhalvöya and Storö, opportunities for impressive hikes present themselves. Later, we land near Sydkap, a place known for its colossal icebergs, some of which are over 100 meters high and more than a kilometer long. These gigantic icebergs are often grounded, as the fjord at this point is only about 400 meters deep (1,312 feet). In Sakatajik, we can also visit the remains of the Thule winter houses, where up to twenty people once lived, hunting Greenland whales and constructing their houses from their bones.
Day 8: The tundra of Jameson Land
On the western shores of the Jameson Land stretches a vast tundra, roamed by majestic musk oxen. These impressive animals, living in the harsh and barren landscape of the tundra, offer a fascinating spectacle that impressively highlights the untouched nature of this region. Our goal is to land in one of the areas, for example in Tyskit Nunat. This place recalls the historical efforts of Alfred Wegener, who once attempted to cross the Vandreblokken. History and nature merge here into a unique experience. Perhaps, our path will also lead us to Cap Hooker, another remarkable point, or to a picturesque lagoon located west of Cap Stewart. These places offer not only impressive views but also the opportunity to experience the silent beauty of the tundra in all its glory.
Day 9: Settlement at Scoresby Sund
Today's stop on our journey is Ittoqqortoormiit, the largest settlement in the Scoresby Sund, impressive with its unique location and a population of about five hundred inhabitants. Here you have the opportunity to visit the local post office, where you can purchase stamps for your postcards to send your greetings to the world. Alternatively, you can use the time to take a leisurely stroll through the settlement. During this, you will have the chance to observe the fascinating sled dogs, which are an important part of daily life here. You can also discover the dried skins of seals and musk oxen, which impressively reflect the traditional way of life and the close connection of the residents to nature. These experiences offer you an authentic insight into life in this remote yet culturally rich region.
Day 10-11: Under the Northern Lights
We cross the Denmark Strait, an impressive body of water that separates Iceland from Greenland. As we pass through this fascinating passage, you have the opportunity to experience the impressive beauty of nature in its purest form. If the sky is clear and the clouds hold back, you have the rare opportunity to enjoy the magical light show of the Northern Lights. This spectacular celestial phenomenon, also known as the Aurora Borealis, paints the night sky with vibrant colors and creates an unforgettable experience. The dancing lights, glowing in green, red, and violet tones, are a true wonder of nature and offer a perfect conclusion to a day full of adventures and discoveries.
Day 12: The end of the journey in Akureyri
We disembark in the Icelandic city of Akureyri, taking home memories that will accompany us wherever the next adventure awaits. This charming city, often referred to as the heart of the north, offers a perfect setting to conclude the journey. The picturesque environment and the friendly locals have certainly left a lasting impression. On request, you can take a chartered bus that will take you on a six-hour drive to Reykjavik. This drive offers you the opportunity to once again enjoy Iceland's impressive landscape in peace as you make your way to the capital. Reykjavik, known for its vibrant culture and impressive architecture, is the ideal place to conclude the journey and prepare for the journey home. Whether you decide on the bus ride or depart directly from Akureyri, the memories of this journey will certainly linger for a long time.
