Itinerary: Discover Northern Svalbard - Diverse Landscapes, Sea Ice, and Wildlife - Summer Solstice
Day 1: The largest city on the largest island
You land in Longyearbyen, the administrative center of Svalbard, located on the largest island of the Svalbard archipelago. This charming city, once known as a mining town, offers a unique blend of history and nature. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the streets and discover the fascinating attractions Longyearbyen has to offer. The parish church, a place of peace and reflection, invites you to visit, while the Svalbard Museum with its interesting exhibitions provides deep insights into the history and culture of the region. Despite the dense development of the settlement, the surroundings are surprisingly rich in species, with over a hundred proven plant species thriving in this harsh climate. In the early evening, as the sun slowly kisses the horizon, the ship heads out into the Isfjord. Here, in the calm waters, we have the opportunity to sight our first minke whales, an impressive experience that strikingly underscores the beauty and diversity of Arctic wildlife.
Day 2-7: Northern Svalbard's natural beauties, wildlife, and pack ice
This journey takes you deep into the pack ice and along the remote, fascinating shores of rugged northern Svalbard. The landings we undertake during this expedition are flexible and may change due to sea ice, changing weather conditions, and wildlife sightings. The expedition leader will determine the final plan to ensure you have the best possible experience. Some of the impressive places you might visit include the picturesque Raudfjord, the majestic Monaco Glacier, the impressive Hinlopen highlights, the mysterious Seven Islands, the area above the continental shelf, the tranquil Forlandsundet, the impressive St. Johns Fjord, or the distinctive Alkhornet. Each of these places offers unique experiences and impressive insights into the Arctic wilderness.
Day 8: End of the journey in Longyearbyen
The ship will arrive back in Longyearbyen early in the morning, marking the end of an impressive journey. The arrival in this charming place, known as the gateway to the Arctic, offers travelers the opportunity to enjoy the last impressions of this unique region. To make the transition from the sea journey to the homeward journey as smooth as possible, a bus transfer to the airport is offered. This service ensures that guests can comfortably and stress-free reach their next destination. During the drive to the airport, travelers can take in the impressive scenery one last time and reflect on the experiences of the past days.
