The Itinerary
Day 1, Ushuaia Embarkation and Start of the Expedition
After arriving in Ushuaia, you will be transferred on board. After settling in, the travel services begin with dinner as part of the welcome by the captain, crew and expedition team, followed by a safety and orientation briefing. Afterwards, the ship sets course for Antarctica.
Days 2 to 3, Drake Passage and the Antarctic Convergence
During the passage, polar experts provide insights into the wildlife and history of Antarctica. Depending on conditions, you may have the opportunity to take part in the Citizen Science programme, while seabirds accompany the ship outside. When crossing the Antarctic Convergence, temperatures become noticeably cooler and the character of the journey becomes increasingly polar.

Day 4: South Shetland Islands
This volcanic island group displays a distinct geology with mountains and glaciers. The day focuses on exploration by Zodiacs, complemented by landings whenever weather and ice allow. With good chances, chinstrap and gentoo penguins can be observed, along the waterline southern elephant seals and fur seals are regularly encountered, and whales are also frequently sighted. For participants in the kayaking program, this is typically the first outing on the calm, cold water.
Days 5 to 7: Antarctic Peninsula, Bays, Channels, and Landing Sites
These days are dedicated to an intensive exploration of changing bays and landing sites, while the ship navigates through iceberg rich channels into wildlife rich waters. The planning remains deliberately flexible in order to respond to weather, ice, and sightings. Penguins, seals, and whales are regularly possible near the coast and at sea, accompanied by a backdrop of glaciers and sculpted icebergs. Two outings per day are typical, by Zodiac and on land, and depending on opportunities, active scientific stations or historical landing sites may also be visited.
Days 8 to 9: Drake Passage Return Journey and Conclusion on Board
On the way north, the crossing of the Drake Passage follows once again. Lectures and discussions with the expedition team deepen observations and background information, while outside, seabirds may accompany the journey. To conclude on board, a shared recap is planned, including a slideshow and a shared final meal.
Day 10, Disembarkation in Ushuaia
In the morning, disembarkation takes place in Ushuaia. After breakfast, the travel services end.
Accommodation:
Accommodation is on board the expedition ship Ocean Victory. On board, the expedition team supports you with safety and orientation briefings and guides the daily rhythm of outings, landings and time on deck. The trip is designed as an expedition format in which procedures depend on weather and ice, and landings and Zodiac cruises are the main ways of getting around on site.
Special features:
Expedition travel to Antarctica is inherently flexible and is shaped by weather, ice and local regulations. The expedition team makes situational decisions about routes, landing sites and the order of activities, without fixed guarantees for wildlife sightings or specific stops. Safety briefings and clear rules of conduct are part of the program, especially during Zodiac operations and landings in sensitive coastal areas. Wildlife viewing is carried out responsibly and at a distance, depending on conditions and animal behavior.
Additional Information for Expedition Cruises: The itinerary and route described are provided as examples only and may be adjusted or changed at any time due to weather, ice and tidal conditions, as well as for safety reasons. Specific landing sites, locations or route sections therefore cannot be guaranteed. The captain and expedition leader will make all final decisions regarding the route, landings and daily programme on site. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. Landings and Zodiac excursions depend on local conditions and regulatory requirements. Optional activities have very limited availability; we recommend booking them well in advance, often weeks or months before departure, as they may be fully booked by the time of travel; their operation depends on weather, ice and safety conditions as well as minimum participation. Polar regions are remote and dynamic natural environments, therefore programme changes or delays may occur.
