Christmas or New Year's Eve in Antarctica 25% Advantage

This expedition travels from Ushuaia in southern Argentina to the Antarctic Peninsula, combining several days at sea crossing the Drake Passage with visits to the waters around the South Shetland Islands and along the rugged coastline of the peninsula. Prior to embarkation, an overnight stay in a hotel in Ushuaia is included, after which the journey begins with a passage through the Beagle Channel heading south. The expedition focuses on daily Zodiac excursions and landings at selected sites, offering views of the polar landscape with glaciers, icebergs and rocky coasts. Opportunities to observe the local wildlife include various penguin species, seals and seabirds. All meals are served on board, with additional lectures, briefings and guidance provided by the expedition team. The journey takes place over the Christmas and New Year period and includes appropriate onboard activities and communal events.

Itinerary: Christmas or New Year in Antarctica

Day 1 – Arrival in Ushuaia (Argentina)
On the first day, you travel to Ushuaia, where the expedition team will meet you and transfer you to a pre-booked hotel. The remainder of the day is free to explore the city and surrounding area or to prepare for the forthcoming sea voyage.

Day 2 – Embarkation in Ushuaia and Start of the Expedition
After breakfast at the hotel, there is further time to explore Ushuaia before being transferred to the port in the afternoon to embark the expedition vessel. Upon boarding, the expedition team will provide a series of informational and safety briefings. The journey then begins through the Beagle Channel, heading south.

Days 3–4 – Crossing the Drake Passage
The following two days are spent at sea crossing the Drake Passage. During this time, regular presentations are offered by the expedition team, and there are opportunities to observe seabirds and marine mammals.

Days 5–8 – Antarctic Peninsula and Surroundings
Subject to weather and ice conditions, landings and Zodiac excursions are undertaken in the region of the South Shetland Islands and along the coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. Here you may observe various penguin species and seals, and see landscapes with glaciers and ice formations. The exact sequence of landings is determined by natural conditions and the decisions of the captain and expedition team.

Days 9–10 – Return Crossing of the Drake Passage
After visiting the Antarctic waters, the return journey through the Drake Passage begins. On board, lectures, presentations and activities continue to be offered.

Day 11 – Arrival in Ushuaia
The ship docks once again in Ushuaia. After breakfast, the voyage concludes and you disembark. You may continue your onward journey immediately or plan additional time in Ushuaia.

Day 12 – Return Flight or Individual Travel
Depending on your travel arrangements, you depart from Ushuaia. For international flights, an early afternoon departure is recommended to allow for possible delays due to weather or transport.

In addition to the standard expedition programme, this journey includes a photography programme led by an expedition photographer, offering both practical and theoretical support for photography on board and during landings. There is also the opportunity to join a Sea Kayak programme in small groups within sheltered coastal areas of the Antarctic Peninsula. Additionally, an optional guided overnight camping experience on land can be booked, where participants spend a night in a tent under Antarctic conditions.
