Itinerary: Svalbard Explorer: Best of High Arctic Norway
Day 1: Arrive in Helsinki, Finland
Your Arctic adventure begins in Helsinki, a city known for its exceptional architecture and fascinating blend of Eastern and Western influences. If you arrive early, you have the opportunity to explore the numerous museums, galleries, and restaurants the city has to offer. Relax in a traditional Finnish sauna, famous for its soothing effects, or stroll through the lively Design District, which delights with its creative shops and innovative designs. At the end of an eventful day, you can retreat to your included hotel and reflect on the day's experiences.
Day 2: Fly to Longyearbyen, Svalbard and Embark
In the morning, the group will be taken to the airport to board our private charter flight to Longyearbyen, the largest settlement on Spitsbergen. Once your ship sets sail, you can enjoy the first glimpse of the impressive glacier-covered mountains of the island, majestically rising from the icy waters. This impressive backdrop provides a striking start to your journey as you experience the rugged beauty of the Arctic landscape in all its glory. The clear, fresh air and pristine nature create a unique atmosphere that will captivate you as you prepare for the upcoming adventure.

Day 3 to 9: Exploring Spitsbergen
During your cruise around this fascinating island, you are constantly on the lookout for wildlife. Your expedition will cover both western Spitsbergen and the impressive fjords in the north. From polar flora to massive glaciers, the natural landscape here is as diverse as the wildlife. Each expedition offers new opportunities and different weather and ice conditions, so there is no fixed itinerary; however, some of the places we might visit include the 14th of July Glacier, Smeerenburg, Alkefjellet, and the Hinlopen Strait. The destinations visited are selected to allow for optimal wildlife viewing and to appreciate the history and geology of Spitsbergen. The island offers numerous opportunities for wildlife photography. Since most of Svalbard's Arctic ecosystem is uninhabited and well-protected, this remote archipelago is one of the best places in the world to observe polar bears against impressive natural backdrops of mountains and ice. The towering cliffs of Alkefjellet provide a home for thousands of thick-billed murres. Encountering a walrus gathering is a moment you won't soon forget. Experience the intimate gatherings of these giant pinnipeds as they congregate on small coastal strips. If you seek a more intimate experience from the water, you can book the adventure options for sea kayaking or paddling. Spitsbergen is not lacking in natural beauty. The tundra can be surprisingly colorful in summer when wildflowers crave a touch of sunshine. Every day you will see something interesting, whether it's an ever-changing gallery of spectacular icebergs, a polar bear resting between hunts, or an abandoned historical site from centuries past.
Day 10: Disembark in Longyearbyen and Fly to Helsinki
The moment has come to say goodbye to your expedition team and fellow travelers. Your adventurous journey ends as it began, in the historic, frontier-style settlement of Longyearbyen. This small but significant town, known as the gateway to the Arctic, has served as the starting point for your remarkable experiences. From here, we organize your transfer to the airport, where you will take your return flight as part of the group charter flight to Helsinki. This flight is part of the transfer package and ensures that your return journey is as smooth as possible. As you set out to leave the Arctic behind, you will surely take with you many memories and impressions that will accompany you for a long time.
Additional Information for Expedition Cruises: The itinerary and route described are provided as examples only and may be adjusted or changed at any time due to weather, ice and tidal conditions, as well as for safety reasons. Specific landing sites, locations or route sections therefore cannot be guaranteed. The captain and expedition leader will make all final decisions regarding the route, landings and daily programme on site. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. Landings and Zodiac excursions depend on local conditions and regulatory requirements. Optional activities have very limited availability; we recommend booking them well in advance, often weeks or months before departure, as they may be fully booked by the time of travel; their operation depends on weather, ice and safety conditions as well as minimum participation. Polar regions are remote and dynamic natural environments, therefore programme changes or delays may occur.
