Winter Vacation for the Whole Family: The Travel Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
You will be personally met at the airport and taken to your destination in Kukkola. There you can move into your cosy accommodation and prepare yourself for a week full of adventure! During a delicious dinner, you will get to know the other guests and your hosts. You will also learn everything about photographing the magical Northern Lights so that you can perfectly capture this fascinating phenomenon in a picture. During the evening, you will go with your guide to the historic village of Kukkola to photograph the beautiful old buildings and the ethereal polar lights (in the evening). During this Northern Lights tour, you will stop in a cabin for hot drinks and snacks. If the Northern Lights forecast is better on another day of the trip, this activity will be postponed accordingly. If you arrive in Rovaniemi, you can visit the Arctic Circle and the hometown of Santa Claus.
Day 2: Explore with a Snowshoe Hike
Strengthened by a delicious breakfast, your guide will take you on a hike of a very special kind. On snowshoes, the traditional form of transport of the Swedes, you will explore the magnificent winter wonderland. If you're lucky, you'll even spot some tracks in the snow. After the hike, you will have the opportunity to relax in the sauna. Enjoy a delicious dinner and look forward to the chance to see the magical Northern Lights dancing in the sky.
Day 3: Dog Sled Farm and Husky Tour
After breakfast, take the bus to the nearby Huskyfarm, where you will learn all about the adorable dogs and their training programme. Afterward, you will get to know the excited animals more personally, and get a taste of true freedom during a one-hour ride on the skids of a dog sled (two people per sled). The total duration of this programme is around four hours. You will be replenished with a delicious dinner before you head out looking for the Northern Lights again.
Day 4: Arctic Photo Course
Photography is certainly a challenge, especially in the remote polar regions! Today you will learn from an expert how to take beautiful photos in this environment. Kukkola is an excellent place for a day safari. After a short workshop on Arctic photography, you will go to the village with your guide and experiment with great motifs such as old buildings, running water, or a picturesque sunset over the river. Warm-up at dinner and let this dreamlike day come to a relaxing end. After dark, look out for the dancing Northern Lights in the night sky.
Day 5: Free Day
Today is for you to spend at your leisure and can be used for relaxing or other interesting optional activities, such as visiting a reindeer farm, nordic skiing, or a snowmobile expedition. Design this day according to your wishes and round off the evening with a delicious dinner.
Day 6: Ice fishing and Traditional Barbecue
Try your hand at traditional ice fishing on the Torne, the largest free-flowing river in Europe. During the tour, you will learn two different methods of fishing. Your guide will show you how to drill a hole in the ice and bait the fishing rod. Then you can grill your freshly caught fish over the open fire in the wood smoke hut and listen to the stories of the local fishermen. Depending on the weather, use the evening to spend time outdoors and admire the natural phenomenon of the beautiful Aurora Borealis, aka the Northern Lights.
Day 7: Free Day
After an eventful day, you will have another free day before you leave, where you will have the opportunity to choose your own activities or just to relax. Additional activities include a snowmobile tour, visits to Santa, a trip to Ranua Zoo, and more. Just ask! After a final sauna session, enjoy a restful last night of sleep in beautiful Sweden.
Day 8: Departure
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end! It's now time to say goodbye before you head back to the airport after breakfast. Don't worry though, you will take with you so many wonderful memories and experiences of this beautiful time in the picturesque Kukkola!
Accommodation:
You will stay in cosy rooms or bungalows with a private bathroom. If desired, you can book a bungalow with a private sauna or a bungalow junior suite with a fireplace. Travelling alone? No problem! Additional Information:
The order of tours and activities within this itinerary may vary due to weather conditions and other contributing factors that must be taken into account by the guides when planning your tour. You will receive the exact order of activities once you arrive on site. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. The safety of guests and animals comes first, and for this reason, we reserve the right to change the itinerary and intensity of activities if and when needed. The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc).
