Swedish wilderness trip with huskies: The itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at the husky farm
At the beginning of your trip, you will be picked up at the airport or train station in Östersund and taken to the Nordic Husky Farm. There, you can settle into your cosy little cabin or guest room and meet your hosts and most likely some of the huskies that live in the house. Afterwards, a home-cooked dinner with local specialities will give you a first insight into the culinary diversity of the region. While enjoying your meal, you can get to know your fellow travellers and talk about the exciting days ahead.
Catering starts with dinner on the first day and ends with breakfast on the last day.
All pictures of this partner Day 2: Introduction to dog sledding
After breakfast, you will be given a short tour of the kennel and get to know the dogs - from the young talents to the experienced veterans. You will gain valuable insights into the care and training of the four legged athletes as well as detailed instructions on how to drive a sled. You can then put these new skills to the test on your first tour through the picturesque winter landscape. For beginners there is a short introductory tour and after lunch a second tour to familiar with different trails and get used to dog sledding. Experienced participants will take a single longer tour to get a good feeling for steering the sled again. The day ends with another delicious dinner and preparations for the upcoming overnight stay in the wilderness.
Day 3: Wilderness tour with the huskies
Today, after breakfast, you will pack your equipment and set off on a two-day husky tour. From narrow, winding paths that barely fit a dog sled, across frozen lakes and marshes, the far north presents itself from its most beautiful side. On the way, you will stop for lunch around the campfire before finally reaching your destination. Here your first look after your husky team, feed the dogs and give them a massage. The upcoming tasks will be tackled together as a group: You will have to drill a hole in the lake ice for fresh water, make a fire in a simple wood-burning stove and finally prepare dinner. Enjoy your time in the middle of nowhere, far away from civilization. If you wish, you can explore the surroundings on snowshoes or go ice fishing on the lake. The night will be spent in a rustic wilderness cabin or a heated tipi tent, surrounded by the white landscape of Swedish winter.
Day 4: Return to the husky farm
On the fourth day, it's time to feed the dogs in the morning before you prepare your own breakfast and finally make your way back to the husky farm. Let the incredible feeling of crossing the Swedish wilderness with your husky team once again take you away. You will stop for lunch over the campfire en route. Once you have returned from your adventure, you will look after the dogs and then have the opportunity to relax and reflect on the experiences of the last few days. Finally, a farewell dinner provides the perfect setting to celebrate the new friendships you have made and bring the tour to a close together.
Day 5: Farewell & Departure
After breakfast, it is unfortunately time to say goodbye. A transfer will take you back to the airport or train station, from where you will start your journey home. In your luggage: unforgettable memories and a deep connection with nature, the huskies and the Nordic way of life.
Accommodation:
You will spend the first two nights (day 1 & 2) and the last night (day 4) in a guest cabin or guest room at the Nordic Husky Farm.
The cabin is electrically heated and equipped with two bunk beds, a small kitchenette with fridge, freezer, dishes and cooking utensils, a coffee machine, French Press, toaster, kettle, and shoe dryer. The guest bathroom, which is shared with the other participants, is approx. 15 m away from the main house and has its own entrance for guests.
The guest room in the main house has a bunk bed and a sofa bed, a mini-fridge, a kettle, a toaster and French Press. There is also a private guest entrance across the hallway from the guest bathroom.
During the multi-day husky tour, you will spend the night either in a rustic wilderness cabin or a heated tipi tent, both without electricity or running water. In the cabin is a wood-burning stove for heating and cooking and simple bunk beds for sleeping. The tipi is a large and heatable tent that has been specifically developed and manufactured for the arctic and subarctic climate.
All accommodation is shared as a group!
Requirements for participants:
Although you do not need to be a top athlete or outdoor expert for this tour, a certain level of fitness is required. In addition, you must be able to be outside in the (sometimes extreme) cold for an extended period of time. We do not recommend this tour for people over 100 kg.
Additional Information:
The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. The service providers and tour providers always perform their services in compliance with and in accordance with the official requirements and requirements applicable at the time of stay. For this reason, corona-related reasonable usage rules or restrictions may arise when using said services. Please note these official requirements (Google Translate).
