Jack London Huskys: Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
The Tour starts at Kiruna Airport in the afternoon and transfer to the huskyfarm. You will be taken to your husky lodge in its beautiful surroundings just a short drive away, where you can get your first glimpse of the breathtaking nature of Lapland. Get to know your loyal companions for the coming days and let yourself be won over by their infectious enthusiasm and anticipation. Explore the beautiful surroundings and let the day fade away peacefully. The fullboard starts with dinner on day one and you can relax from travelling looking ahead the tour program to start on the next day. Spend the first night in a hostel beautifully situated just outside Kiruna - the perfect place to see the Aurora Borealis aka the Northern Lights.
Day 2: First Husky Tour
After a hearty breakfast, you will meet your guide for the first time and together you will go through the tour with a map and give you the opportunity to ask any questions. Then you can take a look at the equipment and try on your winter shoes, snow overalls, gloves, and beanie. After everyone has been acquainted with each other and the equipment, you will get the dogs ready and head out into the wilderness directly from the Safari Base. The first day will see you covering approximately 30 km on the sleds through snowy forests, across frozen lakes, and along the river before heading back to the Safari Base. You will then spend the night in the hostel, with another chance to see the incredible Northern Lights. Everybody will help to take care of and feed the dogs, then you will end the exciting evening with a dinner made from fresh local produce.
Day 3: The Wild Calls!
You will get up in the morning and enjoy a delicious breakfast and feed the dogs before heading out on a full-day tour that traverses varied terrain such as snow-capped forests, open fields, frozen lakes, and more. The Wilderness Camp by the River where you will sleep in wooden cabins or winter tents will be cosy and warm, and will also offer the opportunity to relax and unwind in a traditional sauna. Over the course of the day, you will cover some 40-60 km, enjoying a light lunch on the track over an open fire area. You will be travelling in a quiet area seldom visited by people, where you can really experience nature and spot wildlife such as elk, eagles, and foxes. Today you sleep in the wilderness camp like they did in the Jack London novels by the river in a hut with a sauna without running water and no electricity. In the evening you end this eventful day with a good dinner and a visit to the hot sauna.
Day 4: Through the Alajaervi Nature Reserve
The day begins with a substantial breakfast before you harness the dogs for yet another fun-filled day in the wilderness. Today you will travel up to the Alajaervi nature reservation, with spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. With the dogs, you will travel some 40-60 km (depending on weather conditions), and you may even get the chance to try your hand at ice-fishing on one of the frozen lakes that we pass during the day — perhaps even preparing your catch for dinner! You will travel around the Nature Reserve area where you might get the chance to glimpse wild animals. You spend the night in a wilderness cabin or optional in a wood heated tent nearby.
Day 5: Departure
Today will, unfortunately, be your last day with your new husky friends. The sled dogs that you have spent the last few days with and come to know so well will take you back to the Safari Base and return you to civilisation after a few wonderful days together in the wilderness. You will leave us before lunch time with many wonderful memories, and hopefully a desire to come back to nature and the dogs again sometime in the future!
Accommodation: Accommodation will be in the safari base as well as in wilderness huts and optional in wood heated tents nearby. Please note that in some wilderness lodges, such as the Aurora Arctic Dome and the Mongolian Yurt, there is no running water or electricity available. It is partly shared accommodation. If you are interested, additional nights can be booked in the Aurora "Arctic Dome" or in the "Mongolian Yurt". Here you can be completely alone under the stars, in the heart of the enchanting nature and surrounded by sled dogs. The Aurora Arctic Dome is a cosy tent with a glass roof and a glass front, so you have an incredible chance to see the magical northern lights dancing in the sky as you drift to sleep. Made from eco-friendly, natural products such as wood, sheep wool, felt, and cotton - the Mongolian Yurt has been the traditional habitation of Mongolian nomads for millennia. No matter which accommodation you choose, you will never forget the nights spent in these beautiful accommodations options. During the additional days, you will have the opportunity to take more sled dog tours. If you are interested, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Additional Information:
The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. The service providers and tour providers always perform their services in compliance with and in accordance with the official requirements and requirements applicable at the time of stay. For this reason, corona-related reasonable usage rules or restrictions may arise when using said services. Please note these official requirements (Google Translate).
