You are the only guests, so the hosts can focus entierly on you. This programme, based on decades of experience with Siberian huskies and a sustainable lifestyle in nature, shows you the most beautiful sides of the far north.
Husky holidays in Sweden's wilderness: The itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and cosy get-together
Your adventure begins with your arrival in Östersund or Strömsund, where you will be warmly welcomed and taken to your accommodation. There, you can settle in and relax after your journey. A traditional Swedish meal awaits you in the evening. You will also receive an introduction to the upcoming programme and can look forward to the coming days together.
Catering starts with dinner on the first day and ends with breakfast on the last day. Breakfast is delivered to your door in form of a breakfast basket with food from the region.
All pictures of this partner Day 2: The world of huskies
Today, you will finally meet the farm's huskies! You will learn how to prepare the dogs for a tour and get an introduction to the basics of sledding, before you will set off on your first ride through the picturesque forests and across the vast, frozen marshes. After returning to the farm, you will help look after the huskies and enjoy a hearty lunch around the campfire. In the afternoon, ice fishing is on the programme, where you can try your luck in the tranquility of nature. The day ends with a delicious dinner, either in a traditional lavvu tent or indoors.
Day 3: Snowshoe hike with huskies
After breakfast, you will explore the hidden beauties of the surrounding area on snowshoes together with the huskies. You will look for tracks of wild animals and stop along the way to enjoy a warm drink and a light lunch by a small campfire. In the afternoon, you will prepare for the upcoming two-day husky wilderness tour. There will also be a tasting of cheese and regional delicacies such as bear salami or reindeer sausages. Thils culinary journey of discovery is the perfect prelude to dinner.
Day 4 & 5: Husky adventure in the wilderness
These two days are dedicated to the highlight of your trip: an overnight tour into the wilderness. With your own husky team, you set off for a remote cabin where you live in harmony with nature. Alternatively, you can also spend the night in a heated tipi tent. You will fetch water from the lake, chop wood for the fire and look after your huskies. In addition to ice fishing, you can explore the surrounding area on snowshoes. After a candlelit dinner in the wilderness cabin, you will spend the night surrounded by the silence of nature. On the next day (day 5), you return to the husky farm by dog sled.
Day 6: Day at leisure
This day offers a variety of activities to choose from (please let us know your preferred activity in your booking enquiry): You can take part in a herbal workshop, take a walk on the frozen lake or in the forest, go snowshoeing or ice fishing once again or observe and photograph wild birds. If the conditions are right, you can visit the impressive Hällingsåfallet waterfall (1.5 hours away), where you have to walk 2.5 km each way through deep, uncleared snow on showshoes. The day ends with a farewell dinner where you can enjoy Swedish specialities. Afterwards, it's worth taking a look at the night sky. Perhaps the Northern Lights will be waiting there to wish you a safe journey home.
Day 7: Farewell to the husky farm
Enjoy your breakfast before you say goodbye to the huskies and depending on your departure time, perhaps take a short walk on the frozen paths around the farm or on the frozen lake. You will then be taken back to Strömsund or Östersund for your journey home.
Accommodation:
Accommodation at the husky farm is in a cosy log cabin or a guest room in the main house. Both are furnished with bunk beds, a mini-kitchenette or small fridge and coffee machine. The guest room also has a sofa bed for one person. A large Nordic wilderness-style room with a small fridge, coffee machine and kettle is also available for larger groups. The modern guest bathroom is shared by the group members.
During the two-day husky tour in the wilderness, you will spend the night in a simple log cabin or a heated tipi tent, both without running water or electricity. All work, such as chopping wood, is done together as a group.
As only bookings from a group/family belonging together are accepted on this tour, you will be the only guests on the husky farm during your stay.
Additional Information:
The order of tours and activities within this itinerary may vary due to weather conditions and other contributing factors that must be taken into account by the guides when planning your tour. You will receive the exact order of activities once you arrive on site. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. The safety of guests and animals comes first, and for this reason, we reserve the right to change the itinerary and intensity of activities if and when needed. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc).
