Experience Week in Lapland: The Itinerary

 
Day 1: Arrival
After your arrival at the airport in Kittilä, you will be transferred to the Hotel Jeris (approx. 45 min transfer time). Already while driving you will get a chance to marvel at the impressive nature that will surround you in the next few days. Upon arrival, you can move into your cosy double room or your own log cabin (for an extra charge) and end the day with a delicious dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Day 2: Reindeer Experience and Northern Lights Workshop
Fortify yourself with a hearty breakfast and look forward to the adventures ahead! Today you will make your way to a traditional reindeer farm with an approximately 100-year-old farmhouse and a museum about animal breeding on site. On a short sleigh ride pulled by reindeer, you will experience the snow-covered landscape from a special perspective and get very close to Rudolf and his friends. After this, you will head to the winter village, which was built entirely from snow and ice, lunch will be served in the ice restaurant. If the restaurant is not yet ready or it is too cold, you will enjoy your food in a traditional Kota by an open fire. Back at the hotel, an afternoon full of exciting stories and information about the Northern Lights awaits you. During a workshop, you will learn everything you need to know about the natural spectacle and listen to the myths of the native people of Lapland. Dinner will be served in the hotel restaurant.
 
Day 3: Dog Sledding Adventure and Culture of the Sami People
After a filling breakfast, you can look forward to a very special excursion on this day, because the fascinating huskies will already be waiting for you with anticipation. You will receive all the important safety instructions and learn how to drive a dog sled, before meeting your own dog sled team. Jump on the curves of the sled and let your new four-legged friends pull you into the wilderness. From your sled, you will a fantastic view of the nature that passes you by; the only sound for miles being the panting on your huskies and their paws crunching on the snow. You will share a sled in pairs and have the opportunity to take turns during the 15km tour. Warm-up after your adventure with lunch at the hotel restaurant. In the afternoon there is a programme running where you can listen to traditional songs and stories and immerse yourself in this original culture of the Sai people. You will learn all about their traditional clothing and their fascinating way of life in the far north. In the evening, dinner will be served in the hotel restaurant.

Day 4: Snowmobile Safari and Traditional Fishing
Another day begins with a delectable breakfast spread, and then your preparations begin! You will receive all the necessary safety instructions for driving a snowmobile, after which, you can start up your engine and follow your experienced guide into the Finnish wilderness. The snowmobiles are shared in pairs (unless you want to rent your own snowmobile at an additional cost) and set off on a 35km tour. You will cross deep snow-covered forests and drive over frozen lakes and swamps. You will experience the dramatic and wild landscape north of the Arctic Circle and arrive at a lake where you will learn traditional fishing. You can then have a picnic by an open fire and cook any fish that you have caught! Once you get back from this adventurous excursion, you can warm up in the hotel sauna or simply relax in your cosy room.
 
Day 5: Free Day and Northern Lights Snow Train
All meals are served as usual in the hotel restaurant. You have a whole free day at your disposal today, which you can use however you wish. Curl up with a good book or relax in the hotel sauna, explore the area on your own or try some of the other exciting activities on offer. In the evening, you will be pulled in sleighs by a snowmobile onto the frozen lake in the Northern Lights train and go in search of the mystical Northern Lights. A snack will be prepared for you over an open fire as you watch for the dancing lights in the night sky.

Day 6: Snowshoe Hike and Arctic Sauna World
After breakfast, you will drive to the nearby Pallas Fjell area, which is known for its breathtaking scenery and fantastic views. You will visit the nature centre and learn exciting information about the area. Then strap on your snowshoes and follow your guide for an eventful hike past frozen wintry trees and through thick layers of snow. The wilderness here will quickly cast a spell over you and leave a lasting impression. The time between lunch and dinner is at your disposal. After dinner, you can kick back and relax in the Arctic Sauna World, which boasts four different saunas. With a local drink in hand, the evening will be spent watching a traditional shamanic ritual take place.
 
Day 7: Free Day
Your last day in the far north is at your leisure so that you can organise the free time according to your own preferences. Additional activities and excursions can be booked if you desire, and all meals will be served in the hotel restaurant. In the evening you will be served a special dinner of Finnish delicacies and local regional dishes. Revel in memories and end the day relaxed.

Day 8: Departure
Have a final hearty breakfast before the transfer takes you back to Kittilä Airport. Take with you unforgettable memories of your adventure week in Lapland.
  
Accommodation: You spend your winter week at the Hotel Jeris. The cosy rooms are furnished with pine furniture and have their own bathroom with a hot water shower. This way you experience the authenticity of Lapland without sacrificing home comforts. For a surcharge, you can book your own log cabin with a private sauna for your stay in the far north (please contact us if you are interested). The price refers to accommodation in a double room with an occupancy of at least two people.
 
The trip can be booked from Saturday to Saturday or from Sunday to Sunday.
The tour is suitable for children from 5 years and over. Children under the age of 13 are generally not allowed to lead their own husky team, however, this is always ultimately down to the discretion of the guides. Children who are not allowed to drive themselves will ride with the guide. To drive a snowmobile you must be over 18 years old and have a valid driver's license. The price includes insurance for the snowmobile with a deductible of €800 per snowmobile. With an additional fee of €20 per person/stay, the excess can be minimised to €400 per snowmobile.
