Abisko National Park Husky Expedition: The Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
After arrival at Kiruna airport the transfer brings you to the Husky farm, which is about 6 kilometres away. After moving into the cosy Husky Lodge, you will get to know the charming dogs who will be your companions for this exciting tour. Full board starts with a hearty dinner and you can relax in the sauna before you finally start the next day!
Day 2: The first sled tour
After breakfast, you will meet your guide and the adventure begins! First, you will get your eager dogs ready and feed them, then it will be time to conquer the fascinating landscape together! Of course, you will be instructed in detail in the handling of the sled dogs and the technique of sledding. After you are appropriately prepared, the dogs will be loaded into the dog cars and you will drive to the impressive national parks around Abisko or Alajärvi. Here you will be assigned your own dog team and start your first sled tour, covering some 40-60 kilometres through the wilds of Abisko. On the way, you will take a break and prepare a simple Swedish wilderness lunch. In the evening, the dinner consists of delicious, regional products. Spend the night in a simple, cosy hut.
Days 3 - 6: Through the last wilderness of Lapland
The fascinating day tours will take you through the most breathtaking winter landscapes imaginable. Enjoy the magnificent view from your husky sled while listening to the panting of your excited huskies and the skids of your sled on the snow cover. You will spend your days leading your own team of 4 to 5 dogs along the well-known Kungsleden route, exploring 40 to 70 kilometres every day of exciting trails. The nights will be spent in various wilderness huts.
Day 7: Departure
On your final day, you will head out into the nature of Abisko or Nikkaluokta, depending on the weather conditions. Afterward, you will transfer by car back to the Safari Base, where you will arrive around noon. Then it will be time to say goodbye to your faithful four-legged friends before your guide takes you back to the airport for your onward journey. You are guaranteed to leave with many new amazing memories and experiences to treasure and share with your loved ones.
If you wish to extend for one more night, you can stay in the stunning Aurora "Arctic Dome" or charming Mongolian-style Yurt. These special types of accommodation allow you to be completely and utterly alone under the stars, in the midst of the enchanting winter landscape that you have come to know and love. The Aurora Arctic Dome is a cosy tent with a glass front and roof, giving you incredible chances to view the magical Northern Lights from your bed as you drift to sleep. The Mongolian-style Yurt is made from eco-friendly, natural products such as wood, sheep's wool, felt, and cotton, and has been the traditional way of life for Mongolian nomads since ancient times. No matter which accommodation you choose, you will never forget the unique night spent beneath the dancing Aurelia Borealis. If you choose to stay for any extra days, then you will have the opportunity to do more sled dog or snowmobile tours
Accommodation: On the Husky farm you will be accommodated at a simple and comfortable safari base. The wild huts during the tour (as well as the Aurora Arctic Dome and the Mongolian Yurt) have neither running water nor electricity. The wilderness huts are shared accommodation.

This sled dog trip is an active holiday and requires not only a reasonable level of fitness but also teamwork. During the overnight stays in the wilderness, activities such as collecting water, chopping wood, cooking, and caring for the dogs are organised and carried out together as a team.
Additional Information:
The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period.
