Vindelfjällens Sled Dog Expedition
Dog sled expedition through snowy Sweden.
Tour ID: 183077 in Lappland ●●●●● 43 Reviews
Take the trip of a lifetime deep into the beautiful world of Vindelfjällen, the largest nature reserve in Europe. Here, you can drive for days without meeting another soul. This is one of the few places left on earth where you can experience serenity and solitude, enjoying breathtaking landscapes without noise or light pollution. Together with your guide and your own team of Alaskan huskies, you will see places untouched by the modern world. You will learn how to live life in northern Sweden’s wild and majestic nature. This is a truly unique and challenging tour.
The philosophy of the husky camp is that every tour should be small and personal and they are all limited to a maximum of 4 guests, which allows you to enjoy a cosy atmosphere and means your guide can give each person any guidance and help that they need. Your guide will be watching the weather and the terrain to decide what part of the enormous reserve the group can explore. You might spend more time in winter tents or in rustic cabins, depending on the weather conditions and temperatures. Every tour is unique and will seek to maximise your husky sledding experience. However, we are pleased to provide a sample itinerary below.
Vindelfjällens Sled Dog Expedition: Example Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
You will be met at the bus stop in Slussfors and transferred to the comfortable guesthouse at the husky camp. After that, you will be taken to the husky kennel for orientation. You will see the kit and sleds, pack together and get a sled driving lesson and the chance to meet your dog team for the first time! Enjoy a tasty dinner back at the comfortable guesthouse before you’re welcome to relax in the sauna, chill out in the cosy living room or take a walk to the beautiful nearby lake.

Day 2: Your Husky Expedition Begins
You will start each morning with a hearty breakfast, enjoyed with the rest of your tour group. Together, you will then carefully pack up your sleds with everything that you will need for the experience ahead! Your guide will show you how best to drive and care for the intelligent Alaskan Huskies that will form your personal team, and help you to get them ready to start your adventures. On the first day on the sled, you will cross the river Kirjesån and enter the stunning Kirjesålandet Nature Reserve. Kirjesålandet is part of the Vindelfjällens Nature Reserve that covers 5,500 square kilometres and is the largest Nature reserve in Europe. Heading towards the mountain Väretsfjället, your group will make camp for the night. Every evening of the tour, you will care for and feed your hard-working four-legged friends. Then you will enjoy a traditional Swedish meal with your tour group. This night you will enjoy sleeping under canvas, surrounded by the silence of the wilderness.
Day 3: Long-distance Hiking Trail
Today your group will travel to the Syter hut situated along Kungsleden. This mountainous area has some of the tallest and most majestic peaks in all of Sweden, with the highest reaching 1768 metres above sea level. Enjoy the feeling of the revitalising winter air filling your lungs as you explore the glorious wilderness around you.
Day 4: A Day at Syterstugan
You will explore the area around Syterstugan, an area of outstanding natural beauty, before returning for chores and dinner to the cabin or camping on the trail.
Day 5: Continue the Long-distance Trail
The more time you spend together with the dogs, the better you will get to know them and their different personalities. Dog sledding tours are the perfect opportunity to form a bond with these amazing creatures. Mother nature will continue to astound you with incredible views and sights as you travel.
Day 6: Journey through Sweden's Wilderness
If the weather permits, you should be able to mush your hardworking huskies through a variety of interesting terrain to the comfortable cabin at Magasjö. However, if you decide you would prefer to sleep under canvas, you always have your tent with you.
Day 7: Past amazing nature
Another day on the dog sled awaits you, where you can enjoy breathtaking landscpaes and impressive views. As usual, you will spend the night either in a winter tent or a wilderness cabin, depending on the route.
Day 8: Back to the Husky Camp
On your last day on the sled, you will mush your dog team across frozen lakes and travel through an ancient spruce forest on the way back home to the Husky Camp. Say a fond farewell to your beloved companions before heading back to the guest house in Slussfors to relax, take a shower, and a well-deserved hot sauna. Your guide will join you for a final farewell dinner to share amazing memories and discuss your tour highlights before saying goodbye.
Day 9: Departure
After a final delicious breakfast, it will be time to leave and transfer back to the bus station for your onward journey. You will take with you many unforgettable memories of your time husky sledding in glorious Scandinavia.
Accomodation
The guesthouse where you stay the night on arrival and before departure has all facilities including electricity, running water, and a sauna. The wilderness cabins have no electricity but are comfortably heated with a woodburning stove. You will get the drinking water from a lake or a stream.

Additional Information:
The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. The service providers and tour providers always perform their services in compliance with and in accordance with the official requirements and requirements applicable at the time of stay. For this reason, corona-related reasonable usage rules or restrictions may arise when using said services. Please note these official requirements (Google Translate).

April 2019 - Incredible Lapland Dogsledding Trip of a Lifetime!
My wife and I gave each of our children a special "14 year old adventure" for their 14th birthdays, and my son wanted to go dogsledding. We searched around on the Internet for places to go, and I found HeyHusky and Petter Karlsson. Everything was very easy to arrange, as Alwin at HeyHusky was extremely responsive and helpful in helping us with flights and transfers to the Lapland. Once there, the experience was unforgettable. From the moment we met our guide, Adam, everything was perfect. The dogs were well taken-care of and flawlessly trained. Being from Colorado, the snow was no problem for us, but neither my son nor I had ever experienced dogsledding before. That was no problem! We were easily taught what we needed to know, and after a brief introduction and initial stay in the base house, we were off the next morning on our adventure. The northern lights in April were amazing! The trip consisted about about 30-50k of sledding each day, and staying in a new hut each night. The huts were warm and well-supplied. We participated in feeding and taking care of the dogs. The second hut even featured a wood-burning stove sauna! The views of the Swedish Lapland were beautiful, and we crossed frozen rivers and lakes multiple times. The photos I took are breathtaking. The food was all homemade, and the meat was from the local farm or from their hunting. The "Magic Moose" was extremely good!. I can't say enough great things about the HeyHusky and Karlsson Sled Dogs experience. My son loved the trip and we will remember it for the rest of our lives.

03.01.24-07.01.24 - Schlittenhunde Wildness-Tour bei Petter Karlsson in Schwedisch Lappland
Eine wunderbare erlebnisreiche Tour mit Schlittenhunden! Einmalig. Wir waren bei -46° unterwegs, waren perfekt ausgerüstet. Man sollte aber tatsächlich Erfahrung mit Schnee, Eis und Kälte haben.
