Be there when the huskies are getting ready for the new season. In a small group, you will get to know the work with the beautiful animals and help with other tasks that come up. After a day of work and a delicious meal, you can relax in a sauna and, with luck, see the Northern Lights. During this week, you will be staying in a log cabin adjacent to the dog kennel.
Early Winter Training with Huskies: Tour Itinerary
Day 1-7: Your personal early winter training adventure with huskies
We will teach you the basics of driving dog teams and training dogs. Every day, we’ll go out on dog sleds, stopping for lunch at a fire. This will help learning the dogs to relax during these stopovers, which is an important part of the tours later in the season. We use small teams of 4–6 dogs, to train as many lead dogs as possible and drive up to 20 km a day.

On this tour, we will be out on an overnight trip, where we will stay at a cabin. The goal is to train the dogs to sleep on a stake-out line and let them get used to their dog blankets. Next to the dog training we’ll spend time preparing for winter: getting the sleds ready, preparing tracks and cabins and many other chores that need to be done.

No previous dog sledding required; Normal level of fitness; We expect you to be interested in training sled dogs and help us to prepare for winter.
Accommodation:
The cosy log cabin has 2 rustic double rooms with loft beds and a large lounge with cooking facilities. One of the double rooms has an additional bed so that a family or group of 5 people can also participate. Electricity and heating are available. There is no running water, and the dry toilet is a few metres outside. Since there is no shower, the sauna (which has a small washing facility) can be used for personal hygiene. The wilderness hut (1 night) also has double beds but no electricity.

You will receive the exact order of activities once you arrive on site. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc).
