Enjoy starlit evenings in the wilderness, where you can watch the magical displays of the breathtaking Northern Lights away from noise and light pollution.
Day 1: Your Husky Adventure Begins
After being picked up from the lobby of your hotel in Whitehorse at around 10 am, you will head out with the rest of your tour group to do any last minute shopping for the tour ahead. You will then drive approximately 20km south of Whitehorse to the Sky High Wilderness Ranch. After a hot lunch, you will be able to meet your huskies, who will be very excited to see you! Then you will learn everything that you need to know about caring for your four-legged companions and looking after your sled and equipment. After learning the ropes, you'll be off on your very first mushing experience! Remember to take it easy and that your guide will be on hand to provide assistance as you get to grips with your sled and dog team. During the evening relax with a hot shower, traditional sauna, and a delicious dinner served by the fire. Stay overnight in the ranch lodge.
Day 2: Lake Jackson
After a night of refreshing sleep, you will be up early to greet your furry friends and provide them with breakfast. Sitting in the dining room for your own breakfast, your guide will run through the plan for the day which will include mushing approximately 35km towards Lake Jackson. Listen to the soft crunch of your dog’s paws on the lonely, frosted trail as they pull you closer to your destination. Rewarding them for their hard work is the perfect time to form a real bond with these noble creatures. Stay overnight again in the ranch lodge where a hot sauna will help unwind your body and mind.

Day 3: McIntyre Mountain and Fish Lake
Today will see you heading out to the east, mushing uphill to an old, abandoned mining road that leads up to McIntyre Mountain. You will witness impressive, rugged landscapes as you glide from the summit into the deep valley winding down to Fish Lake. Be prepared for some breathtaking scenery, as the incredible coastal mountains are always at the edge of your vision. Back at the lodge you can feed and care for your hard-working huskies, before enjoying dinner with the rest of your tour group. We are sure you will have plenty to recount from the day! Overnight stay in the ranch lodge.
Day 4: The husky tour Yukon to the Bonneville Lakes
Today you will head out on to the magnificent Bonneville Lake area, part of the Kwan in Dunn Traditional Land. By now you will have plenty of mushing experience under your belt and will feel confident enough to tackle the more challenging trails here. Be prepared for some stunning natural scenery, with the ever-present backdrop of the coastal mountains in view. You will cover between 20-30km across some of the best terrain that the Yukon has to offer. During the evening relax with a warm shower, sauna, and enjoy a delicious hot dinner served by the fire. Stay overnight in the ranch lodge.
Day 5: Dry Creek
Your biggest adventure of the husky sled tour starts here, as today you will head to the wall tent camp up at Dry Creek. You will mush your husky team deeper into the terrain surrounding Fish Lake, following the quiet shores before travelling up into the southern coastal mountain range. There will be plenty of opportunities to take some incredible photos throughout the day. In the evening, curl up in your cosy wall tent for a night of comfortable night sleep.
Day 6: Ptarmigan Flats
Breakfast will be served in the wall tent kitchen, and then it's up and out again to make the most of the day! If the weather is favourable, then your tour group will head up way above the tree line to the Ptarmigan Flats. Wind-swept hill-tops and jaw-dropping views await you and your four-legged friends there. Keep your eyes peeled for some of the local wildlife that you may encounter in the area, such as moose and caribou. Enjoy another night of camping overnight at the wall tent camp.
Day 7: Whitehorse
After a hearty breakfast with the rest of your tour group, you will take your husky team back towards Sky High Ranch. Take a few moments to drink in the beautiful, quiet and serene landscapes before you leave. You will arrive back at the lodge by lunchtime, where you can fill your belly, pack your belongings, and say goodbye to your faithful husky friends before you transfer back to Whitehorse. Stay overnight in the Best Western Gold Rush Inn.
Day 8: Free day'
After a night in town, you will head back to the wilderness ranch to be reunited with your well-rested huskies, who will be very excited to see you again! Enjoy today at your leisure, perhaps go and explore the wilderness on foot, take an extra-long sauna, or simply curl up next to the fire and delve into your favourite book. Stay overnight in the ranch.
Day 9: The Trapper Path Towards Ibex Lake
Get your sled and dogs ready for another day of adventure. You will mush across the frozen Fish Lake from the north to the south, and then onto a trappers trail which leads to Ibex Lake. Lunch will be taken around a campfire while on the trail, and you will head back to the ranch in time for dinner.
Day 10: Mount McIntyre & Jackson Lake
After a tasty breakfast, you will lead your dog sled team north again, up to Mount MacIntyre. Your increased experience means that more routes may be open to your tour group, and you can head further along the north side to the old copper haul road and back via Jackson Lake. Spectacular views across Whitehorse mean that taking your camera is a must on this day of the tour! Head back to Sky High Ranch for dinner with your tour group, and to unwind with a hot shower and sauna before bed.
Day 11: Jackson Creek and Franklin Lake
Day eleven of your tour will take you and your hard-working furry friends for a day trip along Jackson Creek and Franklin Lake. The terrain is beautiful, and you will have the opportunity to feel truly at one with your huskies and the world around you. Return to the lodge for a great refreshing night of sleep.
Day 12: In the footsteps of Wolf, Moose, and Caribou
Step back in time with a slice of Yukon history today as you journey along historical trails to a genuine trapper cabin at the remote and mysterious Coal Lake. All of your equipment for the trip will be packed on to your sled, so you can be sure that you will have everything you need when you arrive at this atmospheric location. During your journey to the camp, you will likely see wolves, moose, and caribou as well as other native wildlife. Camp life is authentic and simple, where fetching and heating water, chopping wood, and cooking over the fire or woodstove will be part of your daily activities. After taking care of your furry friends, you will enjoy a hearty dinner around the fire and share your highlights of the day. Overnight accommodation at the Coal Lake base camp.
Day 13: Coal Lake to Alligator Lake
Today you will be mushing across Coal Lake to Alligator Lake. The trails may be a little more demanding, but your experience over the last week will ensure that your dogs will trust you as you expertly handle your sled across the charming yet rugged landscapes. You may spot people fishing on Coal Lake, which is a favourite local spot for gathering food. Another night of sleeping under canvas at the Coal Lake base camp ensures you will continue to have a truly authentic musher experience.
Day 14: The farewell
Sadly, today will be your last day of mushing. After a hearty breakfast with the rest of your tour group, you will take your husky team back towards Sky High Lodge. Take a few moments to drink in the beautiful, quiet, and serene landscapes before you leave. You may also see a glimpse of some of the wild horses that often roam the area. You will arrive back at the lodge by lunchtime, where you can eat and then bid a very fond farewell to your canine companions who have served you so well. Then you can pack your belongings and transfer back to Whitehorse, where you will receive your musher diploma.
Day 15: Departure
After a final night in the Best Western Gold Rush Inn, you will head off on your onward journey, taking with you some incredible memories of your time husky sledding in Yukon and camping in the wilderness.
Accommodation:
This adventurous journey will bring you closer to the natural, simple life in the far north. You will be housed in rustic, traditional accommodation throughout your stay. Step back in time when dog sleds were used as a means of transport and there was no running water or electricity. Leave civilisation behind and immerse yourself in the life of a musher, where cooking together by the open fire, chopping wood, and fetching water will be among your daily tasks. There is no running water or electricity at Sky High Wilderness Ranch. Light is generated traditionally with gas and completes the cosy atmosphere that you will enjoy during your stay. The dry toilets are located outside in the open air, and a washing facility serves as the camp shower. The price refers to accommodation in a double room. The camp is equipped with bunk beds. The 4 or 5 wilderness nights can be spent in the winter tent or in a secluded wilderness hut depending on the weather. The wilderness accommodation is also without running water and electricity. The number of wilderness nights depends on the dynamics of the group as well as the weather conditions. The last night will be spent at the Gold Rush Inn Best Western hotel in Whitehorse. The travel price refers to accommodation in a double room with another person. All meals are included, with the exception of breakfast and dinner in the hotel in Whitehorse.
We strongly recommend that you arrive in Yukon the day before this husky holiday begins. This way, you can get relaxed and settled in, and be well prepared from the start. We are happy to arrange an early arrival for you.
Additional Information:
The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. The service providers and tour providers always perform their services in compliance with and in accordance with the official requirements and requirements applicable at the time of stay. For this reason, corona-related reasonable usage rules or restrictions may arise when using said services. Please note these official requirements (Google Translate). Show all dates
