After you are welcomed by your hosts at the airport in Fairbanks, your adventure into the fascinating winter landscape of Alaska begins. During the transfer to the lonely husky farm, you will get a first impression of the imposing landscape of Alaska. Day 2-12: Arctic Husky Expedition
After an introduction and refreshment in the base camp, the lodge of the Goldstream Husky Kennel, you will start your sled dog expedition through the fantastic mountains of the Alaska Range near Denali. You and your dog sled team will explore the numerous glaciers, valleys, mountains, and endless open expanses that make this incredible landscape. You will be the only people who dare to venture into this extreme wilderness with your experienced guides!
During this tour, you will complete a challenging longitudinal traverse of the Alaska Range from Denali to the Wrangell-Saint Elias Mountains. The trail runs from Cantwell to MacLaren River Lodge. You will explore numerous side valleys far away from the Denali Highway, drive to the Maclaren Glacier, through the Amphitheater Mountains, and over Sevenmile Lake. The daily driving distances amount to approx. 50 km; covering a varied terrain of uphill, downhill, and over large plateaus.
The loyal huskies lead the mushers through the ever-changing arctic landscape, a challenge for both humans and animals! A variety of unique, breathtaking tours awaits you in the Alaska Range. The tours are planned individually in a team under the guidance of experienced mushers. In order to be able to offer the dogs and guests the highest possible level of safety and enjoyment at all times, the current weather/snow conditions, as well as the skills and experiences of the participants, are always included in the tour planning and the overnight stays in lodges and outdoor camps.
There will be 2 rest days reserved for each tour. In order to ensure sufficient safety for you and the dogs during these tours, only 2 to 4 people (max) can participate in this tour at any one time, although some exceptions may be possible. Food and material are transported in advance by plane and snowmobile. On average, you will typically be around 200 km from the nearest telephone location throughout this journey. The equipment for this extraordinary trip will be provided free of charge by the local provider.
Arctic clothing (parka, pants, shoes, etc) can be rented on-site for an additional charge. The experienced guides are always available to advise you and accompany you on the wonderful trails through the Alaska Range. The team consists of state-certified mountain guides and UIMLA mountain hiking guides. These are the world's highest guiding qualifications when it comes to mountaineering, ski touring, and trekking; so you can be sure that you will be well looked after! Nothing stands in the way of a safe and unforgettable expedition.
Eligibility: We make every effort to ensure that all dog sled fans can have this unique experience. If you are interested, we will explore your previous experiences with huskies. We and your guides will always do everything we can to maximise safety for both you and the animals on this tour. This tour does not require any (top) sporting performance but does advocate active participation in all work involved in the neccessary chores of winter camping and feeding the dogs. We provide special winter tents with wood stoves for you. Special sleeping bags are also available. Please note that there is no running water or electricity available at the outdoor camps during the tour through the wilderness. The wilderness lodges, on the other hand, are equipped with running water and electricity. The husky teams for our tours have been specially trained and 6 dogs are reserved for each participant.
Accommodation & Meals: Before and after the wilderness tour you will spend the night in double or multi-bed rooms at the Goldstream Husky Lodge. Here you will get half board. During the tour through the Alaska Range, you will sleep in simple double or multi-bed rooms in lodges or in an outdoor camp. Sometimes there is no running water or electricity. No lunch is planned during the tours, but snacks and cakes are available. Breakfast and dinner at the lodges are provided at cost price.
Arrival: Flight to Fairbanks, then 1.5hr transfer to Nenana.
Requirements: This tour is only suitable for experienced mushers who have already completed the two-week Alaska Sled Dog College or have gained equivalent experience with sled dogs. You ride your own sled, pulled by four to six very strong huskies.
Additional Information:
The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. The service providers and tour providers always perform their services in compliance with and in accordance with the official requirements and requirements applicable at the time of stay. For this reason, corona-related reasonable usage rules or restrictions may arise when using said services. Please note these official requirements (Google Translate).

25.12.2016-06.01.2017 - Husky-Tour Jahreswechsel 2016/2017
