West Greenland Expedition Trip
Day 1: Arrival
After your arrival in Toronto, you check into the hotel, and perhaps you have some free time after your journey to explore the city. You can fill this time according to your wishes and look forward to the upcoming trip.
Day 2: Flight to Kangerlussuaq and Embarkation
In the morning, you will be transferred to the airport and then fly to Kangerlussuaq. Embarkation takes place here, and you settle into your cabin for the next few days. After a welcome and safety briefing with the expedition leaders, you can relax and unwind for the rest of the day.
Day 3: Along the West Coast
You start the day with a hearty breakfast. Today, you will spend the day at sea as the ship heads north towards the first destination in West Greenland. The expedition team has prepared various lectures to prepare you for the upcoming discoveries. Topics will include biodiversity, history, geology, climate, and points of interest. Keep an eye out for marine life from the outer deck or enjoy the passing landscapes.

Day 4 - 6: Uummannaq Fjord
Fuel up with breakfast for the day. You will explore the Uummannaq Fjord, the second largest fjord system in Greenland, and experience places that few people get to see. This section promises untouched nature and breathtakingly beautiful landscapes. The Uummannaq Fjord welcomes you with natural and cultural wonders. Possible excursions include visits to the settlement of Uummannaq and Qilakitsoq (the site where the famous Greenland Mummies were discovered), as well as excursions focused around Store Glacier and its immense discharge zone. The explorer in you awakens as you start exploring new areas and marvel at the landscapes in the endless gorges and valleys of the fjords. Everywhere you look, one highlight follows another.
Day 7 - 8: Disko Bay
Another highlight of West Greenland follows as you visit the famous Disko Bay, the largest bay in the region. Watch from the outer deck as the ship navigates into the legendary bay and keep an eye out for whales, which are often spotted here. If conditions permit, you will visit the settlement of Ilulissat, situated at the head of the outlet fjord for Sermeq Kujalleq (Jakobshavn Glacier), known for discharging 35 billion tons of ice each year. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004, the fjord is immensely beautiful. Other destinations could include the Equip Sermia or Torsukatak Fjords, located in the northeast corner of Disko Bay. Both of these remote areas offer fantastic vistas of large active glacial faces and provide plenty of opportunities for hiking, paddling, and Zodiac cruising. Depending on conditions, the helicopter flight will take place here to allow you to admire the beauty of these fjords and glaciers from the air.
Day 9 - 10: Qeqqata
A visit to Qeqqata, Greenland's second smallest administrative region, is a must during your expedition. Home to almost 20% of Greenland's population, most of whom live in Sisimiut and Maniitsoq, this region is characterized by stunning nature. Through close collaboration with local partners, you will experience a balanced mix of community and nature activities. One possible excursion is Sisimiut, where you can stroll through the open-air museum, participate in local tastings, or join a hiking group to venture beyond the town limits along one of the many incredible hiking trails on Sisimiut's doorstep. Further south, the areas around Maniitsoq are equally stunning. One of our favorite destinations in the area is the picturesque alpine lake of Innussuit Tasersuat, where you can hike and share a picnic with friends from Maniitsoq. The fjord systems behind Maniitsoq are deep and seldom visited. The expedition team does its best to offer you an exclusive and individual experience and provide you with unforgettable memories.
Day 11: Disembarkation and Flight to Toronto
After a final breakfast on board, it's time to say goodbye as disembarkation takes place in Kangerlussuaq. A transfer will take you to the airport from where you will fly to Toronto, where you will check into a hotel for your last night. You can spend your remaining free time as you wish, perhaps exploring Toronto.
Day 12: Departure
Check out of the hotel, taking countless memories with you from your time in West Greenland.

Expedition Ship
Ultramarine: This modern expedition ship with a helicopter and helipad accommodates 199 guests and 140 crew members. The restaurant offers stunning views, and the lounge provides ample space for readings, lectures, and presentations. The expedition ship has Ice Class 1A+ and can reach speeds of 16 knots.
Additional Information for Expedition Cruises: The itinerary and route described are provided as examples only and may be adjusted or changed at any time due to weather, ice and tidal conditions, as well as for safety reasons. Specific landing sites, locations or route sections therefore cannot be guaranteed. The captain and expedition leader will make all final decisions regarding the route, landings and daily programme on site. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. Landings and Zodiac excursions depend on local conditions and regulatory requirements. Optional activities have very limited availability; we recommend booking them well in advance, often weeks or months before departure, as they may be fully booked by the time of travel; their operation depends on weather, ice and safety conditions as well as minimum participation. Polar regions are remote and dynamic natural environments, therefore programme changes or delays may occur.
