You will spend a week with a guide and a team of gorgeous Alaskan huskies where you will learn everything that you could possibly need to know about these amazing and intelligent creatures. From breeding to caring for huskies, to discovering training techniques and how to race them, you won’t find any other tour that gives you such comprehensive knowledge. You will also learn how to build a sled and competently drive a sled dog team.
During the week you will explore and discover the Patagonian landscape while practicing driving your sled across a variety of terrain including steep hills, deep snow and river crossings using bridges made of snow.
Accommodation during the tour will be in comfortable rustic cabins, and all food and drink will be provided.
As a reward for a successful week you will also have the opportunity to venture out on a 2 day expedition with your dog team, camping out in the wilds of the Andes Mountains. At the end of your tour you will spend a final night at our premises and receive a certificate for the completion of your Musher Course.
One Day Tour: Sled through the Andes
For a little taster into the exhilaration that husky sledding has to offer, why not try our one day tour through the Andes Mountains.
Your huskies will eagerly be waiting for you at the homestead, and you will have the opportunity to get to know them before sitting down with a hot drink and learning everything that you need to know about driving a dog sled team of 3-4 of these amazing creatures.
An experienced guide will accompany you on a two hour tour where you will get to drive your team through breathtaking scenery. Alternatively, if you do not feel confident in driving your own team or wish for a more relaxing tour, you will have the option to sit in the sled of one of our guides.
After your unforgettable experience you will be able to rest by the fire and enjoy some traditional maté and tortas fritas.
Three Day Tour: Valleys and Mountain Peaks
On this amazing three day husky sledding tour you will experience a snapshot into our longer dog sledding adventures. We are sure it will whet your appetite for more!
Day One: On arrival you will meet with your guide who will introduce you to your lovable huskies. After settling into your comfortable rustic cabin you will join the rest of your tour group for a delicious dinner and discuss the itinerary for your adventure.
Day Two: After a filling breakfast you will prepare your sleds and huskies for the tour ahead. Your guide will take you in the trailer to your starting point, the beautiful Mallin Chileno and you will get to grips with driving your sled as you cross the Valle de Litron.
In the evening you will make camp under the trees and care for your dogs, rewarding them for their hard work today. Then you will sit down together for mouth-watering homemade meal and local wine around the campfire.
Day Three: On day three you will head up to the Argentinean – Chilean border where you will have the opportunity to appreciate the breathtaking views before heading back to your starting point at Mallin Chileno. You will then transfer back to the homestead, where you will enjoy a hot meal and a final night in your cabin.
Day Four: After a hearty breakfast it will be time for us to say farewell to you. Transfers back to Nequén can be arranged, and you will leave the homestead taking with you unforgettable memories of your time husky sledding in South America.
Six Day Tour: Return trip over the Andes to stunning Chile
On this incredible 6 day tour, you can either make your own way to the start point at Pino Hachado, or we can provide transfers from Neuquén at an additional cost.
Day One: On arrival you will meet with your guide who will introduce you to your lovable huskies. After settling into your comfortable rustic cabin you will join the rest of your tour group for a delicious dinner and discuss the itinerary for your adventure.
Day Two: After a filling breakfast you will have a lesson in driving your own dog team and will be able to practise in the area surrounding the homestead, honing your skills and gaining confidence.
After you will prepare all of the equipment that you need for the tour, enjoy another hearty meal with your group and settle down for a good night of rest before your tour commences.
Day Three: Today is the day that you set off on your tour! Depending on the weather conditions, you will start either directly from the homestead or transfer several kilometres away where the snow is deeper.
From your starting point you will head over the breathtaking mountain range Tres Hermanas towards Chile. You will traverse the plateau of Mallin Chileno to the Hito Fronterizo, the marking place between Argentina and Chile.
During your tour you will be responsible for caring for your own dog team, searching for water and wood and contributing to the overall wellbeing of the tour group. In the evenings you will sit down together for mouth-watering homemade meals and local wine.
Day Four: After re-packing your sleds and ensuring your huskies are ready for the day ahead, you will head out to cross the second Hito at the Paso de las Cabras which sits at approximately 1900avb. You will then arrive at Maseta del Arco and make camp in the mysterious and magical Aracaen Forests.
Day Five: Today begins your return back into Argentina. You will travel through breathtaking scenery back over Mallin Chileno and decrease in altitude until you reach the path that will take you back to the pass of Pino Hachado. If there is enough snow you will be able to continue driving your dog sled team right back to the homestead, where you will enjoy a hot meal and a final night in your cabin.
Day Six: After a hearty breakfast it will be time for us to say farewell to you. Transfers back to Nequén can be arranged, and you will leave the homestead taking with you unforgettable memories of your time husky sledding in South America.
