'‘’‘The ultimate Antarctic experience: The itinerary’‘’'
'‘'Day 1: Arrival in Ushuaia, embarkation’
Welcome to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world! After your arrival in this lively Patagonian city, you will have the opportunity to explore the surrounding area. Whether you stroll through the picturesque streets or hike in the surrounding forests, you will be amazed by the natural beauty of the region. Alternatively, you can take a day trip into the untouched nature of Tierra del Fuego, with its snow-capped mountains, glaciers and flowering meadows. In the afternoon, we board our ship, which awaits us in the harbor. After the obligatory safety briefing, our adventure begins as we navigate the calm waters of the famous Beagle Channel. Keep an eye out for whales and dolphins as we set out to cross the stormy waters of the Drake Passage.
'‘'Day 2-3: At sea - crossing the Drake Passage in a southerly direction’
We continue our journey and cross the legendary Drake Passage, the body of water that separates Patagonia from the Antarctic Peninsula. This passage is known for its rough conditions and strong westerly winds, known as the ‘raging fifties’. While this crossing can be challenging, you'll be comfortable aboard our purpose-built expedition vessels, equipped with stabilization systems and powerful engines and staffed by a highly qualified team. The most experienced sailors consider crossing the Drake Passage a lifetime achievement - and you will do it twice!
During our days at sea, we prepare intensively for our arrival in Antarctica. Your expedition leader will provide you with comprehensive information on how to stay safe and minimize your impact on this precious wilderness. You will also receive valuable wildlife spotting tips. Our dedicated expedition team will help you to bio-secure your clothing and equipment to protect Antarctica's fragile ecology. We also offer customized lectures on topics such as Antarctic exploration, wildlife, geology and glaciology. On the third day we reach the Antarctic Convergence - watch the thermometer drop as we sail into Antarctic waters. In this biologically productive zone you can expect to see numerous species of animals such as shearwaters, albatrosses and possibly penguins, seals and whales. Depending on the weather, we could land in the South Shetland Islands in the afternoon of the second day, which marks the start of our exploration of the last continent.
'‘'Day 4-9: The Antarctic Peninsula - Adventure awaits’
With no set itinerary, this expedition offers adventurous travelers the opportunity to experience Antarctica in its purest form - guided by wind, sea and ice, taking advantage of the best opportunities nature has to offer. This voyage takes place in the first half of the short Antarctic summer, when sea ice is at its peak, giving us plenty of opportunities to explore the frozen wilderness of the last continent. The exact course will be carefully planned by our expedition leader and captain, but we will visit a variety of locations that showcase the beauty of this stunning region.
Experience massive icebergs and far-reaching glaciers on a Zodiac cruise in Paradise Bay. Be impressed by penguins lovingly guarding their eggs and defending their nests on Cuverville Island. On a hike over the active glaciers in Neko Harbour, you will see the impressive ice waterfalls falling into the clear blue water. Visit historic cabins such as Damoy Point, which have been lovingly restored and are open to all. Feel the spray of the water as a humpback whale surfaces during a Zodiac safari in Wilhelmina Bay. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery on a cruise through the Lemaire Channel. Endemic species, captivating history and breathtaking natural beauty await you all over the Antarctic Peninsula.
At this time of year, you may be lucky enough to see penguins lovingly caring for their fluffy chicks while their partners frantically search for food in the sea. As the snow melts, the opportunities for migrations on land increase. Antarctic sea lions begin to reach their summer feeding grounds and humpback whale numbers increase as more of these gentle giants arrive at the end of their long migration. With no set itinerary, our onboard team can maximize the experience for everyone on board. While our suggestions are only possible itineraries and landings, we can be sure that this will be the ultimate Antarctic experience.
'‘'Day 10-11: At Sea - Crossing the Drake Passage North’
After our adventure in Antarctica, we spend two days at sea as we sail north back across the infamous Drake Passage towards the more inviting shores of the Beagle Channel and Ushuaia, Argentina. During this time at sea, various activities will be organized on board to give our guests the opportunity to reflect on their journey. Relax with an artfully created cocktail in the Nordic Bar in the company of new friends, soak up the knowledge and passion of our expedition team during lectures in the Shackleton Lounge or simply enjoy the sight of the albatrosses accompanying us north.
On your last evening on board, you are invited to join the captain and officers for a farewell cocktail. Enjoy a presentation of photos and videos by our on-board photographer - the ideal opportunity to review your Antarctic adventure. Skål!
